Kyo is portrayed as a fun-loving, imaginative, rather optimistic, and a very mischievous kid. When his mishaps get himself into a mess, he usually attempts to fix things with somewhat dimwitted ideas, which usually get him into even more trouble than before. No matter how his schemes resolve themselves, Kyo's naïveté stops him from learning his lesson. Kyo does not appear to notice deception, which may mean that he is too optimistic to notice most negative things around him. He is friendly, polite and a lot more down-to-earth than the others. His friends refers to Kyo as a "herbivore man", which means that he is likely to be the passive one in a relationship; this is reinforced in his conversation with others. However, even though he is sometimes a bit of a pushover, he is also capable of being a very determined and charismatic speaker, and quick thinker, to the point where his dumb ideas ends up working for him at the end. His plans and thinking skills are so great, that they even rival that of the smartest students. Thus, giving Kyo the second nickname of "the smartest idiot ever."
Despite his goofy nature, Kyo was also a science prodigy, able to use his knowledge of physics and electrical and computer engineering to create and invent different different gadgets for his hero suit. His strong love of science had labeled him as a huge nerd for his school years, but it's a title he wears with pride. His firm belief in science was so absolute that he ironically rejected any possibility of magic and the paranormal, instead attempting to rationalize not just his, but all Peculiarities as a form of "advanced DNA reconstruction".

Kyosuke O'Brien is a very strange case for a child. Adopted in Japan by Connor and Maria O'Brien, Kyosuke spent his entire life with his two loving parents who treated him as if he was naturally their son. Connor was a veteran combat medic while his mother was a field surgeon. Both were virtually treated as heroes. Kyo was a good kid who grew up always caring for others and wanting others to smile, to the point where he could at some point easily make friends with anyone as a child. All of that changed when all the other kids at five developed their peculiarity, and Kyo never got his. Being the only child in his elementary school in Ithaca New York with no powers, he was basically considered the boring kid. He usually spent most of his time alone reading books during recess.
At age six, he would begin reading advanced books that was something even adults found impressive. That time, it was when he would meet one of his first life long best friend, Raegan. He was like the complete opposite of Kyo. Head strong, confident, and very sure of himself. He took nothing lying down, and Kyo would basically look up to him. He didn't even care whether Kyo had a Peculiarity or not, as he would tell Kyo that it wouldn't matter who had what, but how they are as a person. Kyo was really moved by that, as he virtually would stick to Rae like glue since then. They both spent the entire summer as best friends, and would virtually do everything together non stop. The only catch, was that it was only in the summers, as he was the grandchild to the old couple that was neighbors to Kyo. At that point it just felt terrible for him, since he really enjoyed his time with Rae, and deeply missed him.
School time came, as Kyo would meet another new face who sat by herself. It was a tall older girl named Caelia. She was foreign and moved in with her brother who would communicate in sign language. She virtually had to take care of her older brother Emilio, even though he can do just fine in everything else regardless of him being deaf. Maybe there was more to it? Kyo decided to approach Caelia, maybe to be her friend the way Rae was for Kyo when he didn't have anyone. Unlike Rae, she was very shy to him and only liked to spend time when she asked about the books that Kyo read. Since then the two had done everything together during their time in school, even if she was a grade ahead of him. At summer time when school was over, Rae came over again much to his surprise. It was a bit weird at first for the two to meet, but the three ended up becoming an inseparable trio, having the most fun that they ever had.
Those times ended when middle school came. Caelia was the first to go, and the three spent their last trip together on a camping trip, to have one last fun time together. After that, it was over. Cae was gone to somewhere else for middle school, And Rae stopped visiting. He asked about him to his grandparents, and they both told Kyo that she would be going off to a private all girls school far away. This all made Kyo basically freak out in surprise as he said "Wait, Rae was a girl!?" And then it all made sense. The fact that she never took her shirt off whenever they would go swimming in the lake, the fact that she spent more time with Caelia than him, and they even had a sleepover together and never really told Kyo about it. Did Cae knew this whole time and never said anything? Either way, it was Kyo's time to go off into middle school. The family moved to Manhattan, where Kyo would enroll into a prestigious school for advanced students. He hated the entire time he's spent there, as he would be constantly pushed around and belittled by everyone for not having a peculiarity. The only thing keeping him around was his love for heroes, as he would watch them on TV and would watch them inspired by their acts to be selfless. He asked his father if he could be a hero like that too, in which he responded in "A hero always cares for those around him, and never lets anyone down for himself. You can be a hero too. It's a great responsibility." Those words resonated deep that day.
On the final year on middle school, Kyo would experience something he never knew would happen. Manhattan had been dealing with a strong of gang violence as well as fights and muggings breaking out in Kyo's school area. The professional heroes would do nothing about it, because as violent as they were, the gangs never used their Peculiarities. Just metal bats, pipes, and iron bars. As soon as Kyo saw one of the gang members go after a poor individual, Kyo thought of ignoring the whole dilemma, but just couldn't. Something was nagging him in the back of his head to save the man. It was like a sudden itch, but Kyo rushed in, and stopped the mugging by taking the guy and rushing him out of there. The gangs trailed behind him, but it was like Kyo can see them moving in slow motion. As if a car alert was going into his head warning of an incoming collision, Kyo was warned about every attack that came his way, as he dodged accordingly. They were also slow too, as Kyo ran off and escaped. The man assaulted had managed to escape too, and even called the cops who caught the gangs. At home, more changes were going on inside Kyo, as he would begin to have his body morph into an older look, and his hands would stay stuck on everything. What was happening? It was even weirder when he woke up stuck to the ceiling. With a sudden scream, he alerted his parents who came in to see what was going on. Kyo developed his peculiarity.
After a while, Kyo had spent some time getting used to his newfound powers, but at the same time couldn't get over the fact that he acted heroic that one time. He's been getting more into fights, and even tried to stop the gangs from their businesses entirely which nearly got him killed multiple times. Although he could react accordingly, he never truly learned how to fight. Thus, he would begin training and working out. Learning some fighting moves from video games and karate movies, basically making himself a vigilante at the time. It was bound to catch up to him, as he came home with obvious bruises and welts on his face. Even his lying wasn't working, as his father caught him in the act with a makeshift costume. After coming home to a long load of yelling from his parents, they did something Kyo didn't expect. They enrolled him into a hero academy to get a hero license in LeVane. They knew they couldn't stop him from pursuing his dream of becoming a hero, so they allowed him against their better judgement. The only requirement was that he was not to get badly hurt under any circumstances. Since then, he trained and worked out so he could be on par with the other students.

Spider Totem (Tsuchigumo) - Spider totem is a set of special abilities, beyond what normal humans possess, that are usually somewhat related to spiders. Most Individuals who obtain Spider Powers have increased strength. This is caused by the cross in DNA that grants them the proportional strength of a spider. Spiders, being very fast and agile creatures, give one with spider powers enhanced speed and agility. Along with a spider sense for most people with spider powers, the basic reflexes and agility of a person is far enhanced that beyond a normal human's, able to perceive a threat from far off. People who have spider powers have an enhanced sense of balance or equilibrium to stand perfectly still on almost any surface, also in help with the wall crawling ability. the Tsuchigumo variant of Spider Physiology also creates a humanoid spider hybrid, which changes not just his genetic makeup, but enhances his speed and reflexes, as well as his strength, making the user believe to be that of a supernatural devil.
The spider sense power can lose it's function if it is disrupted by special drugs or chemicals. Also, if the spider sense has not registered something that is clearly dangerous, the user will not be warned. The Tsuchigumo variant is not only taxing on the body, but on the mind itself. Those who have the Tsuchigumo Spider Powers are highly susceptible to mind control and hypnosis, a higher metabolism, causing them to eat more than they usually should, and heavy sensory overload when using more or even all of his Spider Senses, causing to have either a minor nosebleed, or even up to a migraine.
