"Beautifully poetic if they help us get out of this." Miki replied back to Kai before following Sumika and Himitsu out of the building. As the group left, Miki would create more wooden branches throughout the apartment to prevent the zombies from following their escape that way. The girl watched as the rats below destroyed several of the zombies. It seemed like a good idea to follow Sumika's advice of sticking off of the ground to let the rats do what they do. With a wave of her hand she would continue to build her wooden bridge back toward the bar they had passed earlier, following shortly behind Sumika. Miki could really only hope that they hadn't died in the time the shinobi had been away.
As rats poured into the streets from the surrounding area, Himitsu quickly made his way back up and onto the other constructions in order to head over to the rooftops as suggested. Kai's comment about torching the city knotted Himitsu's stomach up as he considered the place's extensive history. "There's gotta be something we can do, right...?" The question was rhetorical, as he knew they would likely have their hands tied in the matter. Sumika spat back about the sandstorm, causing the chunin to swear under his breath. "Well I'd hoped that if you can summon a frickin' god at the whim you might have some pull with it! Whatever, it's fine. We'll just need to work quickly I guess." It was unfortunate there wasn't much to be done about the sand, but Sumika had a point. Gods gonna do god things. The situation didn't seem to bother Sumika much though, which helped relax him a bit, especially after she dashed off with a challenge. Himi made no real effort to compete, but certainly sped up a bit, hopping along from the edges of rooftops to the next, utilizing Miki's bridges on tougher jumps in order not to fall prey to river of rats that flowed through the streets below. Every now and then human limbs floundered up from the creatures as zombies got swept up in the flow.
As the group neared the bar, zombies became more plentiful and started arriving in the area in mass. They flooded the street in front of their objective and piled over one another and the large debris that cluttered the road. Civilians had clearly tried to fortify the area outside the bar at one point, but by now those defenses had been broken and trampled. Monsters slammed themselves into the boarded up windows, attempting to gain entry but making no visible progress. "Man those things are gross looking..." Himi vocalized his thoughts to the group as he landed on the building and peered over the edge into the road. When the rats turned the corner and began flooding in, he decided he didn't want to see the details of that interaction, and turned away. Nearby was the roof access stairwell, which was unlocked from the outside. Himitsu pulled the door open and headed inside, holding the door for the next person before moving in.
Inside the sounds of zombies pounding on the fortifications echoed off the walls and creating a claustrophobic feeling inside the otherwise open building. Gathered near the entrance were roughly a dozen adults armed with whatever they could find and wrapped in pots, pans, wooden boards, scroll paper, and other ridiculous "armor" materials. A few had actual weapons, but one man standing near the shaking door had collected several legitimate piece of gear and stoodby confidently as the sounds of the monsters outside were joined by the squeaks and skittering of rats. As Himitsu began quietly descending the stairs into the room, the man's attention quickly shifted toward the boy and he made a motion to throw a knife at him before stopping himself. The man eyed him for a second before relaxing. "Id' ask how you got in, but I'm going to assume you're from home?" Himitsu nodded as he recognized the man as a member of the recon team they'd been searching for. "Yeah, we were asked to come see if you and your friends were alright. Nobody's heard from any of you, so we got worried. What the hell happened here?" The Recon Infiltrator didn't appear to be relieved much by the sight of backup arriving, and he only became more tense as he began speaking once again.
"Some contruction workers were digging around under the city, expanding the sewers. About a week and a half ago, they busted through into some old religious chamber of some kind. It was this big, stone chamber with all sorts of engravings in the walls, torches, pillars, typical ritual chamber type stuff. But the big find was this silver ring that was sitting on the pulpit in there. Long story short, the guy that ends up with the ring kills a guy in a bar fight uptown a couple nights later, except the dude doesn't stay dead. Dead guy rolls over, hops up, and just starts attacking people. The team and I stepped in and got things under control, but what I didn't know until later is that our medic took the ring afterwards. When our sensory expert got sick, the medic started spending hours at a time in that chamber. Eventually she took off with the specialist, and within a day downtown was flooded with monsters. That was 5 days ago and it's only gotten worse, obviously." The infiltrator paused and listened to the sounds going on outside before sheathing his weapon and taking a seat at the bar for now. "I'm guessing you guys have gotten a better look around on the way in than I've gotten in a couple days, so... What's the chances we can get these people out of here?"

Kai grinned at Miki as she agreed with his assessment about the rats and plague, but he refocused on the task at hand as he waited for Himitsu's instruction. Inside the building, he saw a bunch of survivors with makeshift armor. He felt so bad for them as they were clearly petrified. Himitsu approached the recon specialist and got useful intel about the problem in the city. The undead were reanimating alright. "Okay, spooky scary religious chamber creates an effect that generates undead people. Let's go bust that s**t into dust, yeah?" He made an excited gesture as he felt re-energized after all the running and talking they'd been doing thus far. "Let's cause a little chaos and fix things, eh, team? The room clearly has weird special powers."

โWell yeah, it listens to me but thatโs not the same thing as following orders. It's a big deal, like the rat version of that green lady everyone worships.โ Sumika said as Himitsu expressed annoyance at Ninkilimโs pseudo-autonomy. That the rat god's wrath seemed rather hard to truly evoke was something she considered a good thing, considering the last time anyone but Sumika had messed with gods one of them got murdered. The reality was that, provided nothing presented enough of a threat to challenge the mass of rats the sandstorm would probably never come. She waited atop the build as Himitsu entered, following him in.
โMan, how do you go and get cursed? And like, not even the useful kind.โ Sumika said as the member of the recon team relayed information about the situation. Out of curiosity she poked the person who had attempted to use scroll paper as some kind of makeshift defense. โSo, uh, whatโs this supposed to do?โ
Outside, the fervor of the rats increased in magnitude once more. The fact that Ninkilim was unlikely to face a challenge didnโt mean that things wouldnโt still get out of hand. โYo, uh, Himitsu, dude. The zambos are not enough to keep the rats busy so I might have to send them back.โ This statement was accompanied by a massive shaking as a group of rats the size of a large summon slammed their way into a pack of zombies somewhere near the building - an event that didnโt seem to bother Sumika nearly as much as it should have.
For the moment, the rats were keeping the dead things at bay relatively effectively, but much more and theyโd be tearing through the small village like a biju. However, getting rid of them also meant all that pressure back on the squad, and no chance of relieving it in the same manner again. Theyโd gotten overwhelmed extremely quickly last time, and she doubted that constituted the bulk of the shambling undead - or the effectiveness of the rats at incapacitating them permanently. With Ninkilim gone, they could easily be back in the s**t again.

This wasn't the sort of issue they'd been sent for. This was too big. They were supposed to find a recon team, maybe fight a cultist or two, and go home. Now they were embedded in the middle of a massive city, surrounded by rats and animated corpses, of which the ladder are controlled by one or more rogue shinobi. " This... This is way outside our scope. We just came to find you and the team, we didn't expect, well..." The chunin looked around the bar quietly before speaking again. "I'm not ready to go destroying ancient reliquary, and we're not exactly authorized to go hunting down rogues... Let's.. Let's just get these folks out and get home..." Disappointment filled him as he rubbed his forehead and turned back toward the direction they'd come in. "Miki... Can you bridge us all out over the wall? I think it may be better to just let Sumika's little friends do their thing with the city once we're out, but I think she's made it pretty clear they're not exactly going to wait on us. We'll let spec ops do their thing with whatever's left..." The recon shinobi they'd been sent ot find seemed disappointed as well, but didn't object. He quietly nodded, then went to round up the few survivors as Himitsu made his way back up the roof.
