User ImageIt was the same old thing with her. She used to have a goal. She used to have a place to be. Now she felt lost and completely out of her comfort zone. She had left the Kitwana to find new beginnings for herself and it led her nowhere. She felt like maybe she just didn’t find where she should be in life. She had been traveling many days and many nights in search of fulfillment. Her skills were being wasted. Wasted on this endless travel.

She growled low under her breath as she stopped in her tracks seeing a young zebra falling off from the rest of the herd. Maybe it was sick because it wasn’t that old. Maybe a few weeks if that. She usually liked a challenge, but today she didn’t even care. She needed food and she didn’t feel like battling with a full adult zebra. So, she lowered herself to the ground and watched as it drifted further from the rest. That is when she made her move.

She bolted for the young zebra, and it didn’t take her long to catch up. When she did, she tackled it down to the ground ending its life within minutes. She didn’t have much time because scavengers always loved to come out of nowhere.

So, she made little work of the young zebra before wandering a little bit away and taking a rest. Annoyance was written all over her face because this was getting tiresome. She didn’t mind being on her own, but after being in a pride, even if it wasn’t for long, she felt like she was spoiled. Spoiled to have others around her. Maybe she liked company more then she let on.

With a disgruntled huff, she looked around once more wondering what her next move should be.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Dusk was approaching. The birds were growing quiet and the herds of prey beasts were anxiously settling in across the savannah. It was a hunter’s golden hour. Anyone and anything could be hiding in the tall grasses, the warm tension of anticipation laying thick in the atmosphere. Could this be a lion’s favorite time of day? Perhaps. But for Malaika’muziki, the dark of the night was sweet bliss, and how much more wonderful it would be on a full belly.

The dark lion had made a sort of makeshift den for himself, a hollow dug out beneath a fallen tree. It was a great place to hide, and with some slits scratched out from the tree’s rotting bark, he could observe the surrounding area while remaining quite hidden. It was from here he watched the zebra herd moving in the distance, and the sudden breakaway as another dark shape took down a straggler. Laika observed patiently, knowing it would be easier to simply pick off the remains when the hunter - or was it a huntress? - had eaten their fill. Generally he preferred not to interact with others. Solitude was his only true friend, a lesson he learned as a cub.

He approached silently as the dark predator moved away from the carcass, eager to steal a few bites before any hyenas showed up. There wasn’t much meat left on the scrawny foal, but he managed to tear off a few bites before the wind suddenly changed, blowing his scent in the direction the previous hunter had wandered. Suppressing his panic, he tore off another chunk before diving into the tall grass to hide, hopefully before being noticed. Others didn’t tend to like him, and he didn’t want to be caught red-clawed stealing food.
