Its only a point of view
To those who enjoy anime, it's wonderful
Those outside of that would argue otherwise...
In other words, there's no right or wrong answer just opinion stare

I wouldn't mind if it spread though

Definately spread. Of course there's some bad anime on tv..there always will be good and bad. But if we put more out there there would be more competition, more push to improve.

Some people are concerned about anime influencing the young. A lot of americans have the attitude that cartoons are "childish" and only for kids. But anime is made for both kids and adults. Recently while shopping for some anime I noticed that nothing was rated. If anime became more mainstream we could get a rating system like we do for our movies. That way, more active parents can choose what they want their kids to watch.

Also, if it became more common to find in stores than maybe the prices would drop. Or people in other countries would start their own anime distributors.

I love anime so my opinion is bias. Anime has esquisite art styles and well developed story lines even if the american voice acting and censoring leaves something to be desired.

There's one problem I see with the spreading of anime though. Since anime/manga is generally written by Japanese authors for a Japanese audience, some people from other countries may not exactly understand the hidden jokes/puns in them. also, it may be good if some people are willing to go and try to understand the culture by going to look it up later, most people aren't. So many things may go misunderstood or ridiculous(sp?) to the people who are not Japanese.

i.e. in Japan when people commit suicide by throwing themselves off something, they generally take their shoes off. it's a polite, formal way of leaving the world.

also, when Sanosuke in RK is called a rooster, not only does it apply to his appearance, it has another meaning as to 'stupid'

also, many names in naruto are jokes themselves. lol... i remember i couldn't stop laughing for three minutes after hearing that the main character's name was uzumaki naruto, and that his favorite food was ramen.

Well though, all in all I don't see much of a problem otherwise, but I hope that people don't base all of their impressions of Japan and Japanese culture from anime/manga, because sometimes it is hard to interpret.

I thought sometimes they change the jokes that pertain to Japanese audiences to something similar in a sense to our "culture"... neutral

Remember one thing: the anime in Japan is designed to be sexual. Not henti since that's pornography, but suggestions and tension in the anime. I watched Sailor Moon when it was on Cartoon Network back in the day, loved it and my daughter got addicted to it.

Bought the first season boxed set with subtitles, and i was shocked as to how mature it was.

Basically what I'm told by Americans living in Japan are that the anime on TV there are written for 40-50 year old men who are perverts and who need to regain their youth with 15-16 year olds.

And it's culturally accepted there.

Anyhow, just pointing that out.

you know, that's a bad stereotype.

the really good stories out there are NOT made to be directed pointedly at 40 to 50 year old perverts.

I don't think there's anything wrong with spreading it.

i think it should be spread to >< its not like anime is a bad thing anyways >< well depending how ppl take it ...we could either have ppl who know more about japanesse culture or ....ppl thinking there are demons in the world and they are demon slayer ......either way win win !

Anime really does open up to Japanese culture.

However, American culture wouldn't be as open.

For example, yaoi parings, or yuri pairings, would be really akward towards conservative families...

I personally don't mind such pairings, but not too many other's would be as open.

I wish it would spread more though =/

I love that anime is become more noticed and more popular. Sure, you get a bunch of those "otaku geeks" who think they know everything and continue to pronounce all the japanese names WRONG! O_< hehe. I'm sure we all know one of those people *stabs voodoo doll* But, you get those people in every fan group. With the growing popularity it just means cheaper and more available anime/manga/anime themed items (costumes, plushies, etc.) for everyone.

I think it should be spread.. but Americans shouldn't even try to translate it and make an English version.. I hate it when the do that, screws up the whole anime..

I say anime should be spread. Although sometimes anime is dubbed badly by certain companies cough4Kidscough, it teaches kids Japanese culture and increases the fan base worldwide. Besides, the current fan base is practically dying with the lack of dubbed anime, even though subbed anime is just as good.
