It's only those who 'omgz god is everything ur stupid ur going to hell' that make religious people seemingly all faith-forcing ravers.
I'm Christian, but I don't agree with the views i'm apparently suppose to. I don't believe people whom have never been exposed to God are instanly damned, it's not their fault. I also don't see how we can say our God is so great and merciful, and condemn people left and right. Wouldn't God, in the end, forgive all sins, if you're honest in your repentence?
But, it is merely an opinion.

the reason many people look down on those who are religious people is beacuse many are so into the dogmatic thinking that our forefathers have inbuned into our minds that only certian people can be correct and most people think that applys to people with religion to spread it to everyone in the world regardless on what they beleive thats what has happend all to much in the past

the current attitude in mainline religion seems to be going away from thought and toward emotion, being in the group, and lifestyle issues (not always the same position, but still, issues before intellect).

that's my observation.

my own sect has been suspicious of any kind of education for generations.
they believe that it spoils you, makes you think you're better than others, gives you an attitude.

it's been changing lately but there's a lot of tension there, especially when it's a woman who wants to go to college.

I belive that if you follow your faith then its your own choice but quit pushing it on people i am sick of poeple like that. Like I would never push my ninja lifestyle and belifes on to someone they should not try to turn me to god.

The Stupidest Angel
To Altae: That's pretty cool of him and of you. You mentioned the thing about changing to agnosticism just because it's popular. I completely agree with that, I've thought about it before but, I guess I didn't go through with it because my faith has influenced me so much. I'll mention that I'm religious (I guess you can identify being a cradle Catholic) and they'll assume I've only stuck with it because that's all I know. Nothing against all other religions but I guess I just identify with mine the most. Which is kind of like logic and religion, what religion's montra and logic one agrees with dictates a lot about them.

I was raised hardcore Catholic. I go to church every Sunday, go to youth group about twice a month and I've been attending Catholic school all my life, in fact, I'm graduating from Catholic high school this spring. BUT I don't consider myself catholic. I have studied it for the better part of the last seven years and I find so many flaws in the logic. I don't believe that Christ was the Savior anymore then Gandhi was. I think that perhaps Catholicism started as a way to uplift people, but now it seems to put them down if they choose to have a sexual relationship with someone of the other sex, or live in a way that makes the bishops in Rome uncomfortable. If you would like to continue this conversation in depth, I would be happy to. I challenge you to change my mind, I challenge you not with any disrespect, but with an honest curiosity.

I personally have trouble seeing religious people as intelligent. Sure, their mind may be able to handle a lot, but only if it fits in what they think they know.

I don't hate Christians, not at all. I'm just very much fed up with the ones being angry at me because I don't believe what they believe. And when I try to explain them why, they just quote some part from some way outdated book and claim it doesn't match with what I say and therefore what I say is wrong.

So yeah. religious people can be intelligent, but not when it comes to things that have to do with anything mentioned in the bible. rolleyes
