Although I have spotted a global warming thread, I hope for this thread to be discussing more irregular animal behavior.

Hasn't anyone else noticed that more and more squids are moving up from the depths of the ocean and are getting caught.

Other animals are shifting their behaviors as well, migratory patterns are an example of that. What do the rest of you think, has anyone else noticed these changes?

its all tied into the earth and how it has to cope with things that its inhabitants do to it. i.e humans being morons and careing more for who can slaughter whos people better in a "war"

True I know the animals are inhabiting, I just think tis scary that deep sea animals are moving up to shallow water. We don't know a whole lot about the deep sea, so what in the world could be convincing these animals to leave those depths they once called their home. Rather a disturbing thought. To deal with global warming (if you believe in it that is) we're all going to have a major migration to be happy (at least from the heat prediction graphs). I'll see if I can find any to post on here, but otherwise I hope you know what I'm talking about for right now.

Warmer seasons lead to disruption of migratory and mating cycles of various animals, and disturbs the blooming patterns of plants as well (why doesn't anyone ever care about them?). Life will cope and move on, as it always has. There are still VAST sums of things in the ocean we haven't studied yet, as well as within the Amazon, Congo, and other terrestrial biomes.

Indeed, though I believe it has been happening longer than we might think. It's only now when things are getting out of proportion that we humans are starting to actually take notice, and even now there are idiots who think this whole global warming thing is political nonsense >.> People need to wake up and realize there is something more than just themselves in this world.

but that would take up time just like converting to the metric units they are by far more accurate the the american system(is it still called the english system becuase the english have converted to metrics?)

The proper name for the metric system is SI units, which stands for "System Internationale," developed by the French, actually.

The change in animal behaviour is due to several factors. Global warming is just one of them. Global warming can certainly change the migratory patterns of many animals and confuse them. I've certainly been seeing more birds lately. They shouldn't be back just yet. But this is only one case. The government actually mentioned about global warming in the 60's, and we're only starting to do things about it now.

The world is also shifting. We are not in the same position as we once used to be. Every thousand years the Earth shifts 15 degrees. This can certainly effect the weather, and it certainly has. It might not be as drastic a change right now, but wait a few thousand years. Similarly, the continents shift on their plates and constantly moving. Yes, everything in this world is constantly moving, and this is why all these changes are occuring.

As much as we'd like to think it's only global warming, it's many factors, and many of these factors we cannot change.

::shrugs:: The poles are flipping. The magnetic fields are changing. And of course, in Spring, everything changes. Everyone starts becoming bipolar. I am sure that the animals are starting to act even crazier with all of this weather and whatnot.

I know that around here the geese don't fly south anymore. They stay the winter because we've made the environment both too inviting and too unhealthy by cutting down large swaths of trees and replacing it with large patches of greenery along the ponds and such.

As for the rest of the world...if our actions (like tree-cutting and pollution) destroy habitat, its inevitable species with either adapt or die. Hence bears visiting neighborhoods and bald eagles having to nest atop powerline poles. Its sad.

Well in my town we have a whole lot of Canadian geese that wont fricken migrate up north or down south! stare (I live in Pennslyvania)

But really, there's no such thing as "global warming" it's a cycle that the world's going through.

Do you care to defend that viewpoint? I've shot down everyone else and I'm looking for a challenge.

I read about the squids in a National Geographic magazine. It was only a decaying corpse that was pretty much ripped to shreds. They say it's actual length was about 20 feet. And they were wondering how someone caught it in a fishing net.

Global warning and many other factors are definitely leading to some strange behavior and changes. I know here in Newfoundland, we don't get half the amount of snow we used to, and some birds don't bother to migrate anymore.

The melting icecaps is also something we notice a lot, because (and I know a lot of people disagree with this but it is part of our tradition) the seals no longer appear in large numbers on iceflows, as those iceflows get smaller each year. The seal hunt is starting to get more dangerous, because it is easier to go through the ice. (If anyone wants to comment on the seal hunt, please don't. I hate those arguements, but I will defend my fellow Newfoundlanders.)

Signs all over the world point to the deterioration of the atmosphere, but we refuse to see or hear them. Maybe this is just a period in the cycle of the Earth, but if there is anything we can do to slow it down, it might be a good idea to do so. If this continues for too long, it could kill us much too soon, before we get a chance to let the Earth know we really do care.
