I couldn't find a thread that had movies mentioned...so maybe this'll work here.
I just watched this movie, very much need to read the book, and just want to know some peoples' opinions on it. What do you think of the concept? The "stories within stories"? What is this movie trying to say in your opinion?

I have no clue what movie you are talking about, though I have an idea what is meant by stories in stories. I actually find it a unique concept and builds a stronger character development. I feel you learn through the character this way.

A Scanner Darkly, while not a terribly popular movie, is full of a great deal of meanings and symbolism. It's been a while since I last saw it, but it's a decent enough film, even if Keanu Reeves continues to act terribly. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405296/

I love that movie The symbolism was amazing, and the animation was unique. The drug epidemic was a very convincing storyline and the technology used by the characters was not only inventive but not too far from the reach or thought of scientists today. Substance D made you think of the terrible lives of those who are addicted to drugs in today's world, how their lives revolve around it, their work goes into it, they must somewhere in their subconcious mind want to be rid of it, but the fact that it saves them from the world and the physical drive for it continues their addiction. That was possibly the longest rant sentance ever.

Sweetie, when you have bad actors, it has more of negative effect on a movie than one could possibly imagine. It ruins the entire film, believe me. When the character has NO characterization, then the story goes to hell. Especially if this character is a particularly round character, like Keaneau Reeves was in the movie that you were talking about.
I personally have never heard of the movie, but I do know other films in which this man has absolutely butchered. The Matrix Series was indeed the worst film series that I ever sat/slept through in my entire life.
