“Chirp” From my bedroom located high above the kingdom in the castle’s tower, I was gently awoken by the chirping of birds, and the rise of the sun. Expecting it to be a day like no other for a princess like me, I climbed out of my large fluffy bed. With my eyes still shut, I prepared for another day of courting from Prince Charles, the most handsome boy in all the land. I was hoping he would ask me to the grand ball today.
I rushed downstairs to the royal dining room. As I rounded the corner however, a felt a slight poof. I took no notice though, and kept my mind set on my destination. It was then I noticed my dress was fallen in a large heap on the stairs. Startled, I felt around my body and discovered rough, scaly skin. I tried to reach the nearest mirror, and to my astonishment, I was hopping! When I couldn’t reach the mirror to see what indeed my presence looked like, my dreaded realization was confirmed, I was a frog.
This worried me for quite a bit while I was standing there. Of course, then I remembered the story my mother told me about how my grandma kissed a frog and it turned into a prince. I figured Charles would trust me enough to kiss me as a frog, and we could live happily ever after. I soon found out how horribly wrong I was.
Hopping towards the dining room, I dodged waiters and maids. It gave me a bitter sadness when they didn’t bow low to me. I didn’t let this stop me though, and I proceeded to hop onto the large table in the dining room. My own mother screamed and Prince Charles grabbed me!
“No wait!” I pleaded, “Charles it’s me! Something horrible has happened! I’ve been turned into a frog! It really is Setepenre! I just need you to kiss me and then…”
Then to my astonishment, he cut me off! He started yelling about how worthless talking frogs were. He said they were lowest of all mythical creatures. And then he said he was merciful enough not to kill me for impersonating the princess! After that, he exiled me to the forest!
I was horridly shocked. Not only because of Prince Charles’ reaction, but of my mother’s! She agreed with him and called a guard! I decided right at that moment they were useless to me. I struggled out of Charles’ grip and hopped for my life out of the castle.
Once outside, I was unsure of what to do. I had never actually been outside the castle walls before, and it was extremely overwhelming. I knew I needed to find someone crazy enough to believe me, yet handsome enough to escort me to the ball, not to mention kiss me. It was then another realization overcame me. It had to be a peasant.
At that very moment, a peasant walked by that I was sure had to be the second most handsome boy in the kingdom. I followed him all through his day, hoping sometime we would have a private moment. I learned his name was John. He was indeed a peasant, and he worked as an apprentice at a shoe store.
Finally, he stepped into a small room that looked like a bedroom, and closed the door. I waited until I could sum up the courage, then addressed him. I introduced myself as Princess Setepenre of Happyland. I then ventured to tell him my unfortunate story. After I was only rewarded with a blank stare, I told him it was his duty to his princess to kiss me. That left him completely speechless.
I waited what seemed like eternity for him to say something back. When he did all I received was “wow.” After another eternity he uttered a few more words. He actually believed me! I took that as a personal victory. He also loved me, which is always good.
I wanted him to kiss me then and there, but of course there was the parent factor. He didn’t have real parents, but his master, the owner of the shoe store, had strict rules. To my dismay, he recited the most important rule, “You may not kiss a girl until you are at least 16.” He was currently 14, and I wasn’t in the mood to wait 2 years. He couldn’t disobey his master, because then he would be homeless. I wouldn’t settle for anyone else. I simply deserved the best.
We pondered this for a moment. The only solution we could think of was to tell his master. He was too timid to wake him, so I slept on the floor and waited until morning. I wondered what they were thinking at the castle when they realized I was gone.
When morning finally came, I was startled awake by a rooster crowing. We hurried downstairs, and as John ate breakfast, I recited my story to his master. He hesitated, then bowed. I told him I was starving and he promptly served me a plate of food. I didn’t complain about quality, I just ate.
As I ate I wondered if he would give permission for John to kiss me. Then he asked the most surprising question! He asked permission for him to kiss me! I didn’t want to sound rude, but I explained that I wanted someone my age. I told him he would be handsomely rewarded if he gave permission for John to assist me. He was a bit disappointed, but he finally agreed.
John and I sat on the nicest couch they owned. He leaned forward, and I followed suit. When our lips met, I felt a slight poof. I pulled away and found myself dressed in my old beautiful clothing. I smiled. John quickly got to his feet and bowed low. I told him to stop at once and he straitened immediately. We walked into the kitchen and the master also bowed low to me. I thanked them both and granted permission to escort me back to the castle.
On the carriage ride, I asked John to take me to the Royal Ball. He accepted happily! Once at the castle, master was awarded a very generous reward. John was invited to stay at the castle as my royal guest. We still have royal agents trying to figure out who turned me into a frog. I don’t care much anymore. Charles apologized, and I married John. In about a month my parents passed away tragically. John and I became the best rulers Happyland ever had and we all lived happily ever after.

The End.

That's so cool! Generally I don't like fairy tales, but your style of writing kept me hooked. Have you considered writing childrens' books?
