I don't have many details because I'm fairly new at this. Long story short, I have my class video uploaded into a dvd. My job is to edit the dvd and re-write it on the same disc. My only problem is that it won't upload into WMM or Jahshaka (my editing programs) but I can watch it on my computer. Anyone help?

You'll need to rip it. Free ripping software is available online.
Be warned that in uncompressed frames, the footage will take approximately 1GB space for every five minutes of footage.
Also, WMM likely won't export to the same quality you're looking for. It seems that you've bit off a bit more than you can chew without professional editing software.

Is the ripping software just all I need? I don't really care much about video quality though, as long as it doesn't turn out like an 8-bit game...

I like 8bit video games. There should be a quality setting that you can rip it at.
