Adventures in CSS [Gaia Profiles]

I'm kind of surprised that we haven't made a thread for this yet, but that just means that I get to be the one to do it! biggrin

I've been fiddling with my profile as of late and it's been rather frustrating, but I know that a well made profile is worth its weight in gold. My latest look, I hope, will look like this:

But there's still a lot of work to be done before it's ready.

So, what have you done with your profile? Seen any cool profiles? Want to do something with your profile? Am I awesome, super-awesome, or super-duper awesome? [No, those are the only three options you can choose from.]

Well, I've gone ahead and put up the new one. I still want to fix some of the text on it, push some links around, etc. I also went with a black background, I think it looks cleaner and helps cover up some mistakes I made...

I like! My profile is pretty basic. But I like to keep things simple.

My current profile is a little sad as of late... though... from what people have seen I do make pretty nice profile looking things IMO. Here are some screenshots of any profiles I can manage to salvage:

My first design; turned out way too elegant.
My second design; it wasn't quite the right grunge
Just right I think? Though I need to finish zipping it up and whatnot.

For another friend that I also have to finish ._.

It's really red, and it bothers me, but she wanted it like that.

This one's really red too, but it's of a favourite band of mine and his. :3

I liked Tales of Phantasia for a while... and I still do.

Yeah... I made a LOT of things... ._. And all these prototypes worked with Gaia after a LOT of fiddling.

I appreciate the offer, but it's gonna have to stay like that until have the patience to spare for Gaia again.

gonk How do you guys make these awesome profiles? I've done a lot of Myspace hacking in the past <-- The only reason I was a member, but I've never actually stopped to work out how to tinker with Gaia Profiles. Any quick tips you can give me?

Just start with an idea, sketch it out, research resources (fonts, stock images, colours/palettes, etc), create a plan and make a template, then breakdown the template into the images you need and start coding. At least, that's my process so far...

You just have to go ahead and do it. If you stop to prod people for pointers before you even begin, you'll never start...

Anyway, new concept!

The fonts are Noir et blanc (Numbers in the title), Redheaded Goddess (the "C" in the title), and Trebuchet MS. Thanks La Belle and Lin for helping me look! biggrin

My profiles are... generally accidental. I open up a graphics program, a text editor, and I have a sketchpad next to me and I jot down any idea I can think of using these three tools.

It's a miracle anything happens at all because of my seemingly-unstructured designing.

Hmm... Here's my current work in progress for people to see. I think I actually will make this into a profile but something about it bothers me a lot:

The fonts are A Theme For Murder and Microsoft Candara. The cleaver and the rose were taken from Gertrud K. and nikwelleroz's Flickr page, respectively.
