Instead of never clicking signature links, and ignoring PMs, profiles and posts with tinyurls because they are too lazy to use the real url when posting a banner in posts, type in the tinyurl, but with 'preview' as so.

That should protect you, and let you see if it's legit.

Remember to copy the url, even if it's too late for you(using back), or even the preview tiny url, if you suspect it as bad, to report it to a Gaia mod to protect other people!

There are always chances of failure.

I havn't come accross a tiny url since finding that to check. My opinion, is that something is better than no chance of knowing what's behind the link.
