I was just sitting here with a bowl of popcorn and one dropped on the floor.
I picked it up, and was tempted to eat it. But it had stuff on it so I didn't...

But I've eaten stuff off the floor before. But it was the wooden floor, not the rug. And it seemed clean.
Plus the 5 second rule was proven.

So this prompted me to ask- Do you guys find yourselves eating off the floor?

Discuss-

=Dropping food on the floor and the temptation to eat it.
=Actually EATING the food.
=The proof of the 5 second rule or lack thereof.
=How something randomly happening can just trigger a topic.

Eh, I only eat souls, and you don't find them on the floor very often.

Five second rule.

That is all.

Actually, I remember seeing something once that proved that when food hit the floor, it almost instantaneously is covered with bacteria, so the five second rule doesn't really matter. But I've eaten stuff that's hit the floor before, boosts the immune system, grows hair on your chest, etc. xd

well really, just about everything is covered in bacteria anyway, it just depends on the kind of bacteria mrgreen So for me, the # second rule is situation and food dependent

In this house, it's the fur, or fuzz, rule. sweatdrop

But if the dog sees it first, you will feel guilty if it's something he wants, I taught him too well. whee

I am against products like Purell (which my mom loves) because they weaken our immune system. I won't wash my hands before eating unless the food tastes weird because of it or if my hands are visibly dirty.
So, of course, I live by the five-second rule. If it wasn't on the floor long, it's a non-perishable, and I can't see schmutz on it, I will eat it. xd

The "five second rule" varies depending on where I am. If it's my apartment- 5 seconds, everywhere else- 2 seconds.

It depends on the food. Popcorn is ok to eat. Cookies are ok to eat. They're dry, so (at least by sight) less junk sticks to them. Watermelon? Ice cream? No, they're wet, so they stick to everything on the floor.

I know there's not a big difference in bacteria, but I like to have nice looking food to eat, not food covered in Yoko hair. xd

it depends on what it falls on too. If its outside, then i'm probably not going to eat it. But if its inside its fair game xd

I thought Myth Busters proved that the 5 second rule doesn't really work...
blaugh And yeah when I was younger I would eat off the floor sometimes, but now if it hits the floor it's a no go for me.

The cleanest spot to eat off of in your house is the toilet seat apparently.

Was this back when MythBusters actually used scientific evidence?

Oh, wait, that never happened.
