Technically... otaku is a very demeaning term for a geek. As in someone who has an unhealthy obsession with something, and is generally creepy. Which is why I wouldn't suggest calling someone that in Japan.

You're not an otaku. Being an actual otaku is bad. They literally shun the rest of the world for the object of their obsession. They almost don't function at all. I doubt even Nadian would refer to himself as an otaku.

If you want to know why otaku is often considered a bad, look up the otaku murders. Be warned though, it could contain some pretty graphic stuff.
