Today is Saint Urho's day. Apparently, Saint Urho saved Finland's grape crop from grasshoppers by yelling this to them: "Grasshoppers, grasshoppers, go to hell!" Now, this is not a real Catholic-sanctioned saint, but it's an amusing story nonetheless. If you want more information, Let Me Google That For You. Also, wear green and purple today.

^_^ and its terribly amusing, especially the face that most Finnish people are Lutheran and hence don't honor saint's days.!
I'll take an excuse to wear purple though...

Technically saints are a Catholic thing -- not really a Lutheran thing. :3

I have noticed that Catholicism places more power/responsibility on the Saints than Lutheranism. They aren't "worshipped" quite as much...

See that's what I thought. Most major protestant denominations observe Saint's Days, and many have their own saints added in.

PRAYING TO SAINTS is a Catholic thing. I don't think any Protestant denominations sanction praying to anyone other than God in any of his three manifestations. Many would argue that by praying to saints, one would be attempting to elevate them to the same level as God. Those same many would point out that the Holy Spirit was sent to be our intercessor, and is thus the only appropriate one.

It's a very strange hullaballoo with saints in Catholicism. Catholics don't really pray to saints, just like they don't really pray to Mary. There are "Prayers" to saints and Mary, but that's a misnomer. They really should be called intercessions because Catholics merely ask these people in heaven to pray for them.
