A bump just helps your thread(like the one you have yourself) to get posts. Most people do bumps to get posts so that people notice their thread and are like, "Hey...that thread has a lot of posts, so I should go there. Sounds like fun!" It also grabs people's attention. Sometimes friends will bump their friend's thread to help them make a successful thread. ^^
