http://www.popfi.com/2010/03/19/the-secret-to-a-real-invisibility-cloak/

Check it out ATG, I heard about this on a morning show this morning. Scientists are working on a real invisiblity cloak. It seems to involve wavelengths of light, and the end result is fooling the eye into not seeing the object being cloaked. Crazy! It's the stuff of science fiction and fantasy, but it might actually be possible. So my question is...what will inevitably happen with this technology? Will it help millions of people, or will it become a mundane thing that we take for granted every day? Will it be used to its full potential for good, or will it be primarily used for creepy stalkerish purposes? What are your thoughts ATG?

Kals is questing again!

My understanding of the physics involved tells me that in order for the cloaked object to remain invisible, it must be perfectly still, and it must be viewed from the correct angle. Kind of like the "leap of faith" in the Temple of Doom.

Check sig for details!

Yeah, I'd think it'd have to be really still, too.

I'd imagine it'd be most used in war situations, and not really something you'd be ever able to just pick up at your local Wal-Mart.

Could be good for setting up a hidden camera ninja

Edit: or would it block the lense from recording... hrm maybe a bugging device would be better...

On the news they said when it is initially perfected, it'll be like "Predator" invisibility, where you could see a ripple effect, but the subject would still be concealed. xp Yes...they actually said, "It'll be like a "Predator" effect"

Hahaha.

Predator effect.... Such a technical term.

lol Easy to relate to the predator effect, but yeah essentially because the "cloak" takes info from one side and shows it at the other, any movement will cause a ripple effect.
being completely still will cause nearly complete "invisibility".

This be also known as Active Camoflague.

Sad thing is we probably won't be alive when they DO perfect it into not being like Predator xp

I can only think that rich kids will get better a hide and go seek in the near future.

All I can say right now is "Wow... oh wow!" I never thought that crystals would be the key to it but now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense.

I wonder if sending an electrical current through it would help with the movement part of cloaking itself. Or maybe it would have so many faces that it wouldn't allow you to see the object. Regardless it would be interesting to see what happens with this in the future.

Hm...That would be something, especially for scout snipers. You'd never see where the bullet came from

My concern would be an abuse of such an invention. If a person can be rendered nearly invisible...of course there's lots of good potential for it, but for some reason it gives me a prickly feeling on the back of my neck. xp Not because I think the average person could buy one for $20, but...I suppose I've just read too many books like "Farenheit 451". I start imagining things like government officials hiding in the homes of average citizens and such.

I think they'd have better things to do than spy on us...more like...their wives use it to spy on them, and expose them for the sex addicted cheating guys they are.
