Samurai Sword – “Kiyoe”- The sword is named for her mother and was the last blade that Akane’s father created. It was supposed to be a gift when she graduated from the academy. Kiyoe is distinctive from other blades because of the lily design on the tsuba that Akane’s father made to remind her of her mother.

Sais- Eri and Takeo- After their deaths, Akane named the blades after her brother and father.

Background History:
Akane was her parent’s only daughter and came as something of a surprise. Her older brother, Takeo, was 15 years older than her and already a ninja by the time she was born. Because he spent a great deal of time on missions, Akane rarely saw her brother and was raised basically an only child. Since her mother died giving birth to her, Akane was raised as something of a tomboy. Her father was a famous weapon maker and Akane spent most of her free time in his workshop around the soot and fire of the furnace. As she learned her father’s secrets of weapon making, she also became skilled with a sword and Takeo’s weapons of choice, sais.

On the rare occasions that Akane got to see Takeo, she absolutely idolized him and listened for hours to his stories of life as a ninja as he grew higher in rank and his missions became more extensive. Akane became enamored with the idea of being a ninja herself and living up to her older brother’s reputation although he always told her that she could outshine him any day. Then came the day when Takeo didn’t come home. Close to entering the academy herself, Akane’s world turned upside down when Takeo’s best friend came to their house with a face that Akane had seen to many times with other families.

Old and weak from years of failing health, Akane’s father didn’t last long after losing his son. A mere week before she entered the academy, Akane found her father collapsed on the floor of his shop. The medical ninjas claimed his heart was failing and there was nothing they could do. Akane was forced to watch as the last of her family died. She closed her father’s shop and as soon as she had the ability, locked the doors securely with chakra. Despite the many letters she received from other blacksmiths and nobles, Akane repeatedly refused to share her father’s secrets for some of the fastest, lightest swords in the world. While she accepted her father’s death relatively easily, Akane refuses to accept the loose of her brother and if anyone mentions him she insists that he is just away on a mission. Akane is focusing all of her studies on being a medical ninja because she is convinced that as long as there is a spark of life, people can always be saved. She keeps her sword and her brother’s sais with her at all times but has vowed only to draw them as a last option. She has no interest in taking anyone’s life.

Family: Equad and Diane Karis (parents both deceased), Jayson and Jaycee (children, twins age 7)

Background History: Tempest was the only child born to her rich farmer parents. As a child she was constantly sick and weak and her overprotective mother rarely let her out of the house. The years of seclusion left her physically weak and very pale, making her rather intolerant to sunlight. It wasnt until she reached her pre-teen years that Tempest was finally allowed a slight amount of freedom, which she used to cultivate her love of horses and speed. She would spend hours galloping aimlessly across fields and jumping over fences.

She enrolled in the academy later than most ninjas and while her physical strength made her horrible at taijutsu, her skill with ninjutsu was astounding. Upon joining a team, Tempest worked hard to catch up and surpass other shinobi her age. Soon she was rising through the ranks until she finally made Jounin.

On one of her missions, Tempest was acting as a liaison to another village. During the weeks she was there, Tempest fell in love with the Shinobi who was acting as her guide. The subsequent romance resulted in her pregnancy and Tempest's temporary retirement from the shinobi life until her twins were born. With express permission from the Hokage, Tempest's lover was allowed to remain in Konohagakure during the delivery but a week after her children were born, Tempest awoke to find them and her lover were gone. She went to his village but he had never returned. Desperate Tempest went to the Hokage, who gave her an indefinite fact-finding mission so that she could search for her children and their rogue father. Tempest would report back every few months and when she returned this time, she found that the Hokage had been called away from the village. When she was preparing to leave again, the council came and asked her to temporarily take over for the Kage until her return. Tempest agreed out of love for her village.
