Kisame can not be brought into an argument of classification, due to his sword's parasitic nature, which he pretty much stated was why he lasted so long in combat. Without that sword, I'm sure his chakra supply would be depleted more than fast enough.
As for making it a subclass, or ninja type, I just don't see that working well, for each ninja type seems to decrease one type of learning and increases length to learn another (i.e. support learns offensive skills faster, but don't lean summons as quickly).
