Beast Division

The Beast Division is one of three divisions under the control of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. It deals with all duties and problems concerning those magical creatures classified as a "Beast" by the Ministry of Magic.

Amanda sprinted down the hall as quickly as she could. Doing so in the Ministry was usually frowned upon, and the employees were expected to behave professionally; however, this was an emergency. Once the woman arrived at the Beast Division's office, she knocked on the door, hoping somebody would answer it. Although she wished the loose boggart in her office was the fault of this division, she doubted it was. After all, who would be so stupid as to let a boggart out of its cage, or wherever they had them hidden?

It was another one of those off days at the Ministry for Colin… not that he didn’t have anything to do, no, the pile of paperwork to one side of his desk made that perfectly clear for the man, but was he in the mood to work? Not particularly. Colin sighed, leaning his chair back on its hind legs as he kicked his feet onto the desk. Maybe he’d sneak out of the office? Take a stroll around London for a bit? No one would notice he was missing… maybe.

The knocking at the door was enough to pull Colin out of his little thought bubble. Tilting his head to the side, Colin tried hard to remember if he was expecting anyone today, but when he drew a blank, he merely shrugged and drew his wand from his sleeve. With a flick of the wrist, the door popped open. ”Hello.” He said, smiling at the young blonde who looked a little flustered as if she had been running prior to knocking. ”Is there… something I can do for you?” He asked, taking his feet off his desk as he popped his chair back on four legs and stood to usher Amanda into the office.

Although in excellent shape, Amanda panted from running through two floors of the building. After she had knocked on the door, it flung open to expose a man sitting in a chair with his feet propped up onto his desk. Amanda returned his greeting with a ”Hello,” but she didn’t step inside of his office. There was no time for that. The woman cleared her throat before asking, ”Are you aware of a loose boggart in one of the offices?” Blue eyes stayed locked on Colin’s, attempting to read his reaction. If he knew about it, that must have meant the situation would be under control in no time. If not, then they could have a real problem on their hands. Not only would they have had a wild boggart in the office, but how on earth would it have gotten in? The creature couldn't have been lurking inside the Ministry for very long without someone stumbling across the same path. Crawling up four floors from the outside was highly improbable as well. Idly, Amanda wondered if any of the other offices had encountered any monsters.

Colin stared for a moment, unblinking. His lips curled into a tiny little smile, as if he were waiting for Amanda to break out the ‘just kidding! I was just kidding all along, there’s no boggart in the office, you can go back to being lazy again’ card, but when he’d realized she was being serious the little smile faded. Clearing his throat, Colin shuffled his feet and ran a hand down the front of his shirt. ”Oh, of course!” He said, averting his gaze as he tried to sound as convincing as he possibly could, given that his poker face was anything but flawless. ”Yes, boggarts… pesky little things, aren’t they? The team I dispatched to deal with it must be busy with…” Colin paused for a brief moment, as if he were deep in thought before letting out a deep sigh. ”…things.” He muttered softly, unable to come up with even the smallest of lies.

But before he could dig himself into a deeper hole, Colin gathered his jacket, throwing it over his shoulder as he turned his attention back to Amanda. ”Would you mind showing me where you last spotted it? Perhaps I can deal with the little bugger myself. They’re harmless, really… if you know how to deal with them.” He offered calmly with a smile.
