Physical Appearance: Chumana is 5'3, 130 lbs. Has medium length white hair and bright heterochromatic eyes. One in blue and the other in pale green, fading because she is going blind. Her skin is nicely tanned and she often keeps herself covered while in her home as well as when she is wandering the woods. Often seen with her head covered in a bright handsewn cloth. She is often found in a deer skin dress, green dyed accents and a deer antler headdress. Often wearing bangles around her wrists and ankles, remaining barefoot often. When her head is not covered by cloth, she wears multiple black feathers in her hair. Often keeping her snake familiar close by.
Personality: Chumana keeps to herself and yet is very knowledgeable. A kind soul she is willing to take in anything and anyone who needs it. The only thing she asks in return is that the person/object engage her in conversations about the world. How animals are to converse with her, is beyond normal comprehension but she asks of it. Mainly because she is going blind. Often not accepting help, believing her sight loss is not a hinder but an opportunity. She is very close with nature.
History: As a child, Chumana was often kept around by many of the elders of the village, having been born to one on the council. They had never seen a child born with two separate colored eyes or such a communication with animals. Feeling she was 'special', they taught her separately from the other children of the tribe and did not allow her to play with them, thinking that the others might taint her. Having her curiosity piqued one evening she snuck out the side of the teepee making her way into the woods following the sound of something in the brush.
As she got into the woods, she came across a small group of older children, feeling threatened by the snake. They had taken it into their own hands, trying to kill it. Her heart wrenched and she screamed out at the kids, running to the snakes side and holding it close. The children, continued to beat at the snake, harming her instead before one boy told them to stop. She looked at the children with contempt. Calling her cruel names, they ran back to the village, afraid because she was different.
Her father and the others, hearing the commotion, came running to her side. Many knocking her down for starting things, her father scolding her. The entire time she cried, not for the cruel words or beatings, but for the snake who lay dying in her arms.
As time passed, she and her snake, grew. As she grew however, she noticed her unique eyes appeared to be cursed for her. Her sight fading slowly as the day's passed. On her 18th birthday her father told her of her arranged marriage. On top of that devastating news, her soon to be husband loathed her snake and wished it dead. Not wanting to part with her darling best friend, she ran away from the village, never to return.
During her travels, her contempt for others like her, their cruel and caging ways. Kept her from speaking to many on her way. The only company she kept, was that of the various wildlife. Realizing she too could commune with them, she felt no need for human companionship. On the eve of her twenty second birthday, misfortune struck as she wandered in the dark not being able to see well she hit a small stone in the path. Tripping she slid down the side of the hillside, breaking her ankle. Alone, cold and injured she could do nothing but pray long into sleep. When she awoke she was bundled in many soft fur's. A Young man, sat beside her with a small smile. Finally happy that she was awake. As she talked to the young man, they ended up forming a lasting friendship making a impression on each other. It was thanks to him that she grew warmer towards people and she found a nice quiet place that she too could be alone with her animal friends. Her new home in the forests of Soquili and the final parting gift of her friend. A Bright green and blue basket, she delicately named Seraphino. Her first of many unique and yet special equine friends.
Those, she is very grateful to have, for recently her best friend and snake companion had passed on. |
