Now where did I put that wand?
Grayson moved around his classroom, making sure that it was ready for the day. After all was said and done, he contented himself with making sure that his notes for the day were ready and within easy reach. After that was accomplished, he went ahead and wrote on the board the subject for the day.
"Hello class, and welcome back to History of Magic. This year we have quite a bit to cover, so we will not go over what you have learned over the last five years. I trust that you already know that information by heart for you to be in this class."
He pointed toward the board, where the topic was written. "Now I know that all of you may be familiar with Voldemort and his rise to power, so we shall focus today on the first war. During the 1970s, Voldemort began to gather followers who were eager for a share of his power. The closest followers of Voldemort were known as the Death Eaters. These years got progressively more dangerous and violent. As Voldemort's influence grew, some witches and wizards were controlled by the Imperius Curse and forced to commit atrocities, including the torture and murder of Muggles. Voldemort capitalized on the prejudice and distrust between the giants and the Wizarding World; the giants became Voldemort's followers and killed and tortured many people.
"The Dark Mark was used by Death Eaters to indicate a house where they have committed murder. No one dared to become friendly with strange witches and wizards, not knowing if they were Voldemort supporters. Hogwarts became one of the few safe places in the Wizarding World. Bartemius Crouch was head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement; the Aurors were authorized to use drastic methods not differing greatly from the tactics used by the Death Eaters they fight.
"Around this time, a prophecy was made regarding a child that would be born to defeat Voldemort. Around that time, there were two boys born that fit that criteria. However, Voldemort focused upon the one that was a half-blood, like himself, probably under the assumption that he would be the more dangerous of the two. Dumbledore, learning that Voldemort knew of the prophecy, urged the parents, Lily and James Potter, to go into hiding with their infant son, Harry.
"However, the Potters were betrayed by a close friend. Peter Pettigrew, a former classmate and friend to both of them, had reported to Voldemort about their location upon becoming their Secret-Keeper. However, on October 31, 1981, Voldemort met his end when he murdered the Potters, but failed to murder the young Harry. It was thought at the time that Sirius Black was the Potter's Secret-Keeper, and when Ministry officials went to apprehend Black, he had tracked down Pettigrew and supposedly blown up an entire block to kill the other man. Pettigrew had, however, staged the entire thing, and escaped Black to go into hiding.
"When Voldemort fell, his Death Eaters were apprehended and tried for their crimes. Some, like Lucius Malfoy, claimed they were controlled by Voldemort's supporters and committed their crimes against their will. As there was no proof either way, they escaped punishment. Others, like the Lestranges, tried to find their lost Dark Lord and committed crimes to seek him out, only to be caught and sentenced to Azkaban.
"Now, keep in mind that all of the events that took place ended up playing a part in the Second Wizarding War. Also, keep in mind that most people at the end of the war were glad it was over, and didn't want to be reminded about the atrocities committed or the fear it generated. That is one of the reasons why people, even going into the second war, still refused to say Voldemort's name, and spoke of him as You-Know-Who or He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Few people wanted to be reminded, and fewer still were brave enough to even mention his name.
"Now, I know that this was an exceptionally long lecture, however, next lesson we shall go into more detailed discussions about the hows and whys of the war. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask."

Slip out the back before they know you were there
and at the worst you'll see nobody cares, you don't want to be around when it all goes down...
William Dante Nott the Third
Sixth Year, Slytherin Prefect
William Nott reached the class in a turmoil of silence, a whirl of thoughts and constant emotion lay submerged just beneath the surface, never able to breach past the wall of a mask erected to defend himself and his stoic nature. These emotions, these thoughts confused him, threw him into a world vastly unknown to him, so much so, he could hardly pay the professor any mind as he scribbled down what he heard, never really absorbing those words. His mind was too far elsewhere, absorbed in his past, absorbed in his present, and in his own future.

Agnar walked up to the door. It was his first day teaching. Apparently the school needed an emergency teacher. Something about the current professor being indisposed. He of course noticed the notice and took out his wand. A quick tap incinerated the note, and he watched dispassionately as it fell to the floor. He smirked. Well, this was a good start.
Opening up the classroom, he entered and took stock of what he had. Plenty of books, tomes, and assorted historical paraphernalia littered the room. He was advised not to touch the layout, so the new professor set about working on the board. When he finished, he straightened up the room before standing in front of the classroom. The room seemed darker, more sinister, and he preferred it that way. He waited for students to enter as he flipped idly through the class syllabus and cocked an eyebrow. Well, he had to teach as the school stated, but that didn't mean he was going to be easy on the students.
Professor Bjelke Professor Agnar Bjelke
Lesson I: First Wizarding War
"Hello class, and welcome to class. I am Professor Agnar Bjelke, and you shall refer to me as professor or sir. I do not tolerate laziness, rudeness, or ignorance. If you do not know an answer, stay quiet and let those more intelligent than yourself speak. Now, before we begin lessons, I will state this much. Interrupt me, and you shall end up in detention. Do I make myself clear?" He glared around the room, daring anyone to speak up before he launched into his lecture.
"This year we have quite a bit to cover, so we will not go over what you have learned over the last five years. I trust that you already know that information by heart for you to be in this class. If you do not, then I suggest you leave, for you are clearly an idiot and are not in the right class.
"Now I know that all of you may be familiar with Voldemort and his rise to power, so we shall focus today on the first war. He glared around, daring the students to say anything. "For your homework, and yes, you have homework, I want you to write me an essay on the Death Eaters. Twenty inches in total. Failure to produce it next class will result in a detention."

Amanda walked towards the History classroom. Today was supposed to be the second lesson of the year, but it was closed last week for some reason. Professor Powell must be back, the blonde thought as she opened the door and stepped in. Much to her astonishment, an old man with long, grey hair stood in the professor's spot. Huh. It took a long enough time for the blonde to get accustomed to A History of Magic with Professor Powell, and now, they had a different professor? The girl sat at the back of the class as usual. When Professor Bjelke spoke, Amanda raised her eyebrows. This guy's horrible, she thought; however, she did not dare to let her facial expression show what she was thinking. When the old guy started calling people idiots and whatnot, Amanda smirked. I can probably stir up some kind of trouble with this guy and the Headmistress, she planned. Though, she would probably only do it if worst came to worst.

Adalaide's face broke into a wide grin when she entered the classroom and saw that Professor Powell was, indeed, back. She'd seen him at the Staff Table during the feast, of course, but still, seeing him in his classroom was a great relief. She hadn't particularly cared for his temporary replacement. The man had been... abrasive. And a purist, if his comment on Steele's 'muggle' name was to be taken seriously. She was exceptionally to see that their usual professor was back. She sat down, taking careful notes on his lecture, not really having any questions or anything to add. After all, given her familial circumstances, she was all-too aware of the facts of Voldemort's rise and fall, both first and second. She doodled a small image of a flower in the margin of her notes, smiling. It was nice to have things back to normal.

You see, you'd love to run home, but you know you ain't got one Cuz you're livin' in a world that you're best forgotten When you're thinkin' you're a joke and nobody's gonna listen To the one small point I know they've been missing around here
Rick blinked as he listened to the lecture. Well, it would certainly explain why his father didn't particularly like extremists. He couldn't say he blamed him, either. He shifted when he heard Rufus's question about other creatures. Other creatures, huh? Well, there were certainly other creatures in the world. He could name several off the top of his head that probably wouldn't hesitate to join someone like that. Dementors came to mind especially. Though, why was Rufus asking about other creatures? It wasn't like...
Rick blinked, looking at his dormmate closely. He always seemed so, well, sick every month. He also disappeared one night out of the month as well. Which made him wonder. They'd studied werewolves, hadn't they? Back last year? No, he wasn't going to just assume there was a bloodthirsty creature in his dorm every month, since he never saw him transform. However, he did have to wonder. Rufus had seemed to change his fourth year. Or maybe it was his third year. Heck, he didn't know. He didn't really associate with anyone during his third year. He jotted down notes, naking sure to add some notes in his margin about his thoughts. If nothing else, he didn't want to accuse Rufus of anything, but he wanted to make sure he remembered to look that stuff up. It should be in his schoolbooks. He'll just go over his stuff from last year.

Damien was quite happy when he arrived at the History of Magic classroom to see Professor Powell back in place. He'd been at the Brighton Ball that summer, of course, and at the Welcoming Feast, but Damien had still wondered if the older man who'd taught them last year would be the one to greet them... or rather, completely ignore them just long enough to spout of whatever the lesson plan told him to and then tell them how little he cared. Damien took a seat with Adalaide, offering her a small smile as he retrieved his things for notes. He copied them down diligently, although it was hardly necessary. Every child who'd lived since either of the wars had grown up hearing these stories... thankfully, Damien had been taught by Brownie and not his mother, since he was fairly certain his 'lessons' would have been rather different in tone. He shuddered at the thought of his mother talking about the wizarding wars and Voldemort... he was fairly certain that she would have been right there beside him if it had been possible. Fortunately, she'd been engaged to his father at the time, and his father had wanted nothing to do with any of it... Damien was still sure that his maternal grandparents had been at least low-level supporters, or had approved of the ideals but not the methods.
