Future Hogwarts Student
muggleborn Young Detective

Location : Nearby Park in Stroud (outskirts of the Cotswold)

It had been a while now since Chelsea found out that her friend Griffin had moved to his dad’s. Part of her was sad that he was gone but then another part of her was mad that he hadn’t said goodbye. There was no keep in touch or nothing. She didn’t know where his father lived. Just that Griff disliked him and never wanted to bother with him. So why had he left to go live with him. Oh she was so frustrated over it. With spring starting to roll around she had no one to hang with. No one, that wanted to do boyish stuff anyways.

To get her mind off things Chelsea decided to go to the park nearby. However, as she was on the swings swinging back and forth her thoughts lingered. Her mother had told her she’d make new friends and maybe Griff would come back to visit. However, she hardly doubted he would. His mother was very adamant that it was better that he lived with his father. Sad soon turned to angry as she thought longer on it.

“How could it be better if he hates him?” Chelsea angrily questioned aloud. It made no sense. No matter how many times she tried to work every angle it just didn’t… “It’s just not fair…” She thought to herself with an exasperated sigh. Griffin had been the only friend she’d had. What was she going to do now?

The weather, lately, had been cold and rainy. Today, however, was gorgeous. The sun was shining and it was finally warm enough to play outside without a sweater. Knowing this weather wouldn’t stick around long before the spring rainfall began again, Philip decided to take advantage of it. So, he grabbed his scooter and rolled down to the park, only stopping to pet passing dogs along the way. His mum hated when he went skating or biking (or scootering) without a helmet, but wearing one overtop his hat was just uncomfortable. Besides, he was careful. And what she didn’t know couldn’t hurt her. It wasn’t like he was riding a horse without one – that, he wasn’t dumb enough to do. Horses were unpredictable and uncontrollable if they got scared.

Upon arriving at the park, Philip scootered around until he grew bored of doing the same activity over and over again. Taking a break, the boy left his scooter on the side of the playground and climbed to the top of the jungle gym. From there, he had a pretty high viewpoint of the entire area. Watching the scene in front of him, he noticed a jogger, a dog walker with a small, yappy dog, a mother playing with her toddler, and a girl swinging. Phil typically didn’t play with girls, but unfortunately, there was nobody else around his age at the park today. So, he climbed down from the playground, plopped into the swing next to the blonde, and began pumping his legs, causing him to swing back and forth.

Chelsea had been sitting alone. She noticed a boy on a scooter going around the park. She didn’t know what his story was but at this point she didn’t care. She was too busy dealing with why Griffin left. She needed to figure it out. Course without being able to talk to Griffin himself she probably wouldn’t be able too. Sighing once more Chelsea continued to swing. It was only when a boy came and took the swing next to her that she broke her train of thought.

It was the same boy who was riding his scooter around earlier. Glancing over at him she quickly noted the Pokémon shirt and hat. Upon closer inspection Chelsea noticed he had the same shoes as her. Blinking for a moment as it registered with her brain, the blonde girl finally spoke. “Hello, nice shoes. I’m Chelsea, most call me Chels or Alex, that's because of my middle name.” She introduced herself. “What’s your name?” She asked the brown haired boy.

Philip had been swinging hard and fast before the blonde girl next to him said something. He supposed he could’ve been the first to greet her, but didn’t feel like it. He didn’t know why, either, since the only reason he came to swing was because a kid in his age group was sitting on one. Phil looked down at his shoes before looking over at her and realizing she had been wearing almost identical ones. “Thanks, you too.” The boy quickly smiled at the blonde but slowed down as he swung, so it was easier to converse. “My name’s Phil.” He thought for a moment before adding, “Nobody calls me Christopher – that’s my middle name. And I think I’ll call you Chels,” he decided. It’d be too weird if he had a sister named Alex and a friend named Alex, especially since that wasn’t even her first name. Was it normal to call someone by their middle name instead of their first? The only time his middle name was used was when his guardians were discussing formal paperwork that he didn’t understand or this one period of time when he lived with a foster parent named Barbara. Every time Phil did something he wasn’t supposed to, she would use his full name to yell at him. She was a nut.

Some nights, sleeping was easy. She’d close her eyes and pass out, waking up hours later full of energy and ready to start the day. Other nights, she’d find herself tossing and turning, trying to fall asleep. Tonight was one of the latter nights. So, instead of staring up at the ceiling, feeling anxious about getting some rest, Bella changed into her work out clothes and grabbed a yoga mat. Although she was quiet and was sure she wouldn’t wake Dani up, the seer decided to head outside in the woods to do some yoga. She wasn’t dumb – she never went too far from her house and she always made sure not to be out in the forest on a full moon. Muggles don’t believe in the fairy tale crap about scary monsters being real and out and about at night, and if Bella didn’t grow up in a magical household and go to Hogwarts, maybe she wouldn’t have believed it either – but werewolves were very much real and incredibly dangerous to be around on a full moon. Other night dwelling creatures may be out at night, but Bella didn’t think it wasn’t anything she couldn’t handle, especially with her home being a mere thirty feet away. Perhaps, she had gotten cocky. The witch exercised outside at night often, especially in the summer, and the worst thing she’d encountered thus far was a bear. So, she stretched out her mat and began her stretches, as per usual.

Andrea was having one of those nights. The nights where her memories hunted her dreams. The nights that she woke up in a cold sweat gasping for breath. Some nights she was surprised she didn’t wake up screaming. They were horrible and she swore at times they were driving her crazy. Perhaps they were but her pack helped ground her.

Since sleep was out of the question Andrea took to the forest. Most would assume she’d just stick to the forest she called home but sometimes it didn’t matter what forest she wandered in. Apparating to the forest in the Cotswolds, the werewolf walked through the woods. It was quiet you’d think too quiet but not for this wolf. You could hear the gentle sounds of the nocturnal creatures moving around. Wasn’t anything to worry about. Wandering through the woods desensitised her to a lot of things.

Though that wasn’t the only thing she heard. Andrea after a while caught onto the sounds of another human presence. What would anyone be out in the woods doing this late at night? Then again one could ask her the same question. Creeping closer it seemed another girl was out in the woods doing… yoga? Andrea probably would have just crept away and not bothered to interact with the girl, if not for stepping on a fallen branch causing it to give her away. “Hi, don’t mind me. Just passing through.” Andrea told her as she stepped into view. She really didn’t need to freak the girl out. After all this wasn’t her forest she was just visiting. Yeah, nothing suspicious about that…

Rosabella heard the rustle of bushes and braced herself, grabbing her wand. The noise sounded too loud to only be an owl or squirrel. “Lumos,” she whispered, lighting up the area. Unfortunately, Bella didn’t even think there’d be a person on the other end, watching as a light lit up from a magic stick. Horror struck her face when she’d realized it was a woman – more than likely a muggle. She supposed she could say it was a toy and the only thing it did was light up, which is why she took it into the woods, or she could always obliviate her if that didn’t work. But, then she wondered why a muggle had been walking through the woods this late alone. “What are you doing here?” she asked. “Don’t you know how dangerous the forest can be at night?” Rosabella picked up her water bottle and took a sip from it, waiting for the blonde to answer her. Was she drunk, just trying to get home? At least that way, she wouldn’t even remember seeing Bella’s wand. Or if she did, no one would believe her. She sure as hell wasn’t dressed as though she was coming from a party, but then again, what did Bella know? If Dani let her dress in sportswear and a hoodie to parties, she would.

Andrea was surprised when she got momentarily blinded by a rather bright light. She was quick to realize it was a wand, no different then the one she had on her. Not that the brunette knew that. For all she knew Andy was a muggle wandering threw the woods. Why a muggle would be in the woods she really couldn’t say as she certainly wasn’t one. “Please be careful with where you point that thing.”

The women before her was quick to ask what she was doing out there. A normal response especially during the wee hours of the night. “I could ask you the same thing.” Andrea politely replied. “I’m used to wandering around the woods at night. As for what I’m doing I couldn’t sleep so I decided to go for a walk.” She explained. She had nothing to hide. It wasn’t like she lived around there so saying she couldn’t sleep and went for a walk wouldn’t give away her little cottage in the woods.

“So why are you out here late at night?” Andrea asked her. Fair was fair, right?

Rosabella was caught off guard when the woman told her to be careful where she pointed that thing, meaning she knew it was a wand? Judging by her reaction, it hadn’t been the first time she’d been exposed to them. “Sorry, just needed some light,” she said, lowering her wand to point towards the ground. Bella rolled her eyes when the blonde said she could ask her the same. “I asked first,” she stated, crossing her arms as she waited for a response. When she gave it, the witch thought about her answer. “If you must know, we’re in the same boat. Couldn’t sleep, decided to do some yoga instead.” The brunette shrugged and added, “It helps sometimes.” A moment of silence went by before Rosabella asked, “D’you at least bring your wand with you on your nightly walks through the woods, if you even have one?” If she read the situation completely incorrectly, she’d be ready to obliviate the blonde any second. However, based on the woman’s initial reaction, she highly doubted she did.

She tended to be a bit jumpy really. “Fair point,” She replied before explaining why she was out there. As it turned out they were experiencing the same problem. Sleep issues. “It tends to be calming or so I’ve read. Whatever helps, right?” Andrea comment. She herself had never done it although she’d probably enjoy it if she did. That only made her wonder why she hadn’t at least tried. However, that would have to wait.

When the brunette asked about whether she’d brought her wand, Andrea nodded. As she did so she pulled out the pine wood wand in her possession. “I always have it on me.” She said before adding. “Never know what might sneak up on you, especially out here.” Being a werewolf, she would know. Course when she had run into a pack of wolves she’d had no intent on using her wand then. As stupid as that might sound. Now however she was a bit more shall we say careful. “At least I wasn’t muggle or something.” She commented before saying. “My name’s Andrea by the way. What’s yours?”

muggleborn Young Detective

                                                    Location : Stroud / Cotswold

Chelsea was glad to have a new friend after she lost Griff. She hardly thought about the other boy now. She had a new best friend. One that wouldn’t desert her. Okay perhaps she was still a tad bitter about that one, but she had every right to be. Either way she had Phil now and she could tell him anything. That’s if she could find him. He wasn’t exactly her top priority. Though she did have plans to meet up with him.

Her number one priority was figuring out what was going on. For a while now strange things would happen while she was at home or in school. They always seemed to happen around her. Lights would flicker, or things would spark. There were other odd things too but that always seemed to be what happen the most. Chelsea figured who better to help her figure this mystery out then her pal Phil. Since she didn’t know if he was home or not she decided to head to their usual meeting places.

With a notebook in hand Chelsea headed to one of their frequently used spots. Getting to their hangout spot she looked around for Phil. Having not seen him she figured she must have beaten him there. She had been in a rush to share her mysterious goings on. Sitting next to a tree Chelsea flipped her book open. She’d written all the strange occurrences in it. Might as well take the time to look it over while she waited.

Philip had made plans to hang out with Chelsea, and they were meeting at the abandoned tree house. That was basically their meeting headquarters. Although it was really cold out, he didn’t want to invite her over because parents would be around – unless they hung out in his room, but that was small and crammed. So, the tree house it was. Besides, it wasn’t raining (surprisingly), so he figured they might as well make the most of this weather. Furthermore, this was the last November he’d get to spend at this park since he’d be going off to Hogwarts next year, which Chels had known nothing about.

The boy supposed he should at least tell her he was going away for school next year, even if he didn’t tell her what school. He didn’t want to be another one of her friends who had suddenly deserted her. Plus, it wasn’t like he’d be gone forever. Phil would be back for winter and summer break, so they’d still be able to maintain a friendship. Unfortunately, he didn’t think they could send each other letters since Chelsea and her family would probably be a little freaked out if an owl showed up to their window, carrying mail for his friend. Upon arriving to their usual meeting spot, Philip noticed the girl sitting next to a tree as opposed to in the tree house. “You too lazy to climb?” he called to her, making his way around the trees before noticing that she’d been reading something. Curious, he asked, “Whatcha got there?”

Chelsea looked up from her notebook at the sound of Philip’s voice. “I’m not lazy. I was waiting for you.” She told him jokingly as she stood up. “What took you so long anyway?” She asked with a raised eyebrow. The girl shook it off though as she didn’t care about the wait. It was hardly any problem at all. Besides she knew she could trust him to show. They were best friends. Which was why she planned on sharing her oddities with him. If anyone would believe her he sure would.

When Philip asked what she was looking at Chelsea. “It’s a notebook.” She told him as if it weren’t obvious already. “I’ll explain once we’re inside.” She added before climbing up into the tree house. Tossing her notebook inside when she got to the top before climbing in after it. “I wanted to tell you about these strange things that keep going on. And, I kind of wrote everything that happened in here. I figured if I could tell anyone it would be you.” Chelsea explained to some degree before flipping her notebook open.

“Like lights flickering that happens a lot. Or… sparking that happens too.” She started before pointing in her book. “Oh, and here… it rained in the bathroom once. Anyways, I’ve been trying to figure it out but I’m getting no where.” She finished. “You do believe me don’t you? I couldn’t possibly be making all this up.” Chelsea wanted Phil to believe her. She needed him to believe her.

Location : Stroud / Cotswold (tree fort)

Last year Chelsea had a hard time avoiding Griffin. They were both in Gryffindor which made it challenging. Her only saving grace was the girls dormitory but she still had to leave there to go to classes. Classes that Chelsea otherwise sucked at. Her natural talent lied in defence for sure. However, one class wouldn’t get her through school. Though that was the least of her worries.

Climbing up the ladder, Chelsea’s mind lingered on her parents. They weren’t the same… or maybe she wasn’t… The neighbourhood she lived in seemed odd to her now. She was magic and yet the world around her was completely unaware of the world she walked in. It bothered her that she was different. Before being magic she fit in and now she just didn’t.

Sitting up in the tree, Chelsea knew Phil would be there soon. He was the only one who didn’t make her feel any different as he was the one constant from the time she was muggle to the time she became muggleborn. Sighing at her situation, Chelsea asked the silent space around her. “Why are things so different now…?”

It is rather curious, isn't it?
I must say, you seem to be taking this all in stride
That in mind, I think you're well suited for

The last year of school was weird, and Philip knew why. It turned out that Chelsea’s long lost friend Griffin was the same Griffin who was a student at Hogwarts in the Hufflepuff’s year. Even odder than that, though, was that Chelsea had clearly been avoiding her old friend, which sucked because Phil was friends with both of the Gryffindor students. In a perfect world, he supposed Chels and Griffin would have reconnected and become friends once again – creating a trio that always stuck together. Honestly, Philip didn’t understand why that didn’t happen. Instead, he would either be hanging with one friend or the other, and on the uncommon occasion where he’d be spending time with both, Chelsea tended to call it quits very early.

Today’s feeling was different, however. For the first time this year, Philip was going to hang out with Chelsea without inviting Griffin to join and he wouldn’t feel guilty or paranoid that his friend would find them hanging out together. The Hufflepuff knew that he didn’t really have anything to do with their relationship and that he shouldn’t actually feel bad about the current situation, but he couldn’t help it. He so badly wanted them to be friends. Climbing up the ladder, he wasn’t surprised to see Chelsea already sitting in the tree house. In fact, it was pretty even when it came to who beat who there. “Everything okay?” he asked upon seeing her puzzled facial expression.
