Let's start things off with her, shall we?
History: Verity spent most of her early foalhood with her father. Having been tricked by Verity's mother, her father stole away her basket in hopes of raising her to be as strong and kind as he could. The moment he saw her emerge from her basket, he knew he had his work cut out for him. Realizing that she would not only crave meat her whole life but would also struggle with both halves of her personality that her lineage brought her, he sought to impress upon her the importance of accepting who she was as a soquili rather than the importance of what she was.
For the most part, it went well. He was able to teach her unicorn values, tempered with knowledge of how others might react to her. But then one night, he got the sense that something was off in the forest in which he and Verity were staying. Placing the still young Verity in a hiding spot beneath the roots of a tree, he told her not to leave that spot or make a sound until he told her to, no matter what happened. That done, he watched the skies and hoped his instincts were wrong.
It wasn't long after that that
she found him. Verity's mother, Poena. Poena was not happy about that basket being stolen. When he refused to tell Poena where Verity was, Poena attacked and killed him. Her revenge taken, Poena left the scene, leaving his corpse behind. What Poena had not realized was that Verity was not only nearby, but that she had witnessed the whole thing.
It took a while before Verity could bring herself to leave her hiding place. At first she tried hopelessly to get her father to wake up, but... Eventually she was forced face the truth of her father's death. She did what she could to 'bury' her father, before she left the place that she had called home her entire life.
After that she wandered the land, trying to survive on her own, learning to fight, and facing dangers that most her age don't face. Now that she is fully grown, she searches for Poena. Not just out of a desire for revenge, but also out of a desire for answers.
Personality: On the outside, Verity appears stoic. She has the tendency to not express what she considers her more private emotions, such as fear, sadness, or embarrassment. However, on the inside her emotions and doubts will often haunt her, as she will usually just not express them.
If there is one thing that Verity strives for in life, it is this. She wants to do everything she can to so that her father would have been proud of her. To that end, she will help most soquili that cross her path should they need it, if it is within her power to do so. However, due to her having been forced to survive on her own, she doesn't tend to fully trust people on first sight.
She hates skinwalkers, and greatly dislikes pureblooded kalona. However, most other species will at the very least, be met with simple caution.
Plots:Leave me alone!-This is a plot where Verity comes across a skinwalker that just will not stop harassing her for days on end. This skinwalker shouldn't seriously hurt her, at least not at first, but it should be persistent enough where she just can't get any rest out of fear of the walker striking her when she is most vulnerable. A lead in to the next plot.
I can trust you?-This plot continues from the last, in where Verity is attempting to take a break after days of no rest, but she's severely on edge due to a lack of sleep. She hears someone coming she thinks is the walker, but it turns out to be someone else, who may just help her get some sleep. A plot that teaches her that some soquili can actually be trusted without much thought.
Child of the Flock-During a storm, Verity comes across a foal trapped in a hole. She helps the child out of there, but the little one cannot seem to remember the way back to his or her home. Verity is then forced to make a decision that will change this foal's life. (Note, this foal needs to have started out their early childhood in the Flock, but you must be willing to allow the foal to grow to adulthood away from the Flock. Whether or not they return will depend upon the owner of the foal. This will eventually be a bridge to something else.)
Wait, you're rejecting me?-During her travels, Verity will come across a unicorn that rejects her for being part kalona. This will show her that just because someone's a unicorn, doesn't mean they are all perfect or kind... Which will help to reinforce an important lesson that her father taught her.
What are you getting at?-During another encounter, Verity will come across a kalona that is actually willing to accept her even though she is not a pure kalona. A sister plot to the above plot, that will also lessen her dislike of kalonas.
Wing zealots!-I want Verity to meet a few soquili who think that having wings makes you better than all other soquili. For maximum effect, she should run into this soq when she is traveling with non-winged companions.
More to come soon, check back later, but if you have any ideas you want to throw my way, feel free!
