Rules

♥ No posting please
♥ If you have an idea for something to add please contact Mindsend or another member of staff
♥ Please note if something is posted here, its not a herd specific but has to be a rough generic. Things like "Heartless" can't be held to all one background or setting, but can be "Inspired by Heartless from the Kingdom Hearts series or those descended from them". You cannot enforce a culture or herd onto it.

If unofficial, why is this a sticky thread?

Language is part of communication, and these are the words of our community often time. It's nice to have a bit of a translation.

Traits, hybrids, and "Falsebreeds"

"Hybrids"

Hybrids are common customer-given names given to certain types of breed combinations

Quote:

Hyperhybrid: What you call a hybrid with three or more breed traits.

Alicorn: A unicorn mixed with a Wind (or any other feather-winged breed) that retains the unicorn horn and the bird wings. The Unicorn tail and hooves are optional as are Angeni Winglets and second set of wings for Angeni-Alicorn mixes, and feathers from a Hippogryph. However Hippogryph claws, beak and leg scales tend to turn them from Alicorns to Hippocorns.
Quote:
Please note:- A mutant Putti-minicorn hybrid with flight capable wind wings and a Minicorn horn are sometimes Also called Alicorn or "Mini-Alicorn"

SeaNixie: A Nixie with Seathi Traits.

NixSeathi: A Seathi with Nixie Traits.

__'suti: A hybrid of any breed/mixture bred with Ulun'Suti traits. For example, a Hippo'suti is a Hippogryph and an Ulun'suti, and a Flutterkiri'suti is a Flutter, Kirin and Ulun'suti hybrid

"Falsebreeds"

Falsebreeds are common customer-given names given to certain types of Edits or breed combinations

Quote:

Pokepet: Pokemon ponies and their trait showing offspring are often known as Pokesoq. A Familiar based on a pokemon are often Pokefams.

Harpy: Usually a name for hippogryphs with all of their feet birdclawed, often without beaks. Some herds will call all soquili members of their herd Harpies, regardless of actual breed traits.

Gryphon: a Hippogryph with clawed front feet and back paws.

Naga: A wingless Kelpi-Suti hybrid with kelpi frills hybrid with Ulun'suti frills, allowing them to crest behind the head like an aquatic cobra hood that also has a scaled Ulun'suti tail is usually called a Naga. Mutant versions of this falsebreed have massive muscular tails akin to snakes and sometimes the head crest instead of ears.

Troll: Pets with forward or upward tusks, usually large ones, tend to self identify as Trolls regardless of their actual breed or species. Though some Trolls are not even tusked, simply self identifying as trolls (often inspired by mythology, other media, troll dolls etc, OR Descended from other trolls but not carrying traits).

Lapsang (Souchong): Originally designed for the 2015 Tea Party Event. Named after a type of Tea called Lapsang Souchong, "Lapsang" is a term for Suti'Mixes/half suti with Smoke/shadow/liquid/light/flame hair, often with or without scales. Heads are often bent downwards a little. Scales, for those with them, were originally based on Pinecones with needle like spiney scales near the crest of the head similar in appearance to oversized pineneedles, much like porcupine quills. Scales can also be Gemstones, wood bark, stone, leaves etc. Tend to be inspired by Types of tea-like beverages (tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc), ashes, smoke, fire, or asian themes. Can be any sort of breed mix, but Ulun'suti elemental hair/Elemental Hippo'suti feathers made out of the more 'fluid' styles remains the constant.

Quote:
Please note: Familiars with similar traits as a mutation can often be lovingly given the nickname Souchongs.

Tri-wing/Triwing: Originally a descendant of the Soquili known as Lucifer that carries his family-only limited trait of Three (or more) Wings. These are technically a type of mutant angeni-mix. Now, anyone can get a triwing, but this is still a mutation. The majority still come from Lucifer, but there are now many unrelated triwings.

Living Illustrations: Pets with Markings, mutations, or physical traits that look illustrative in Nature
Quote:

Subtypes of Living Illustration
Noise: Usually inspired by the game "The World Ends with You", these pets have tribal style traits that look like Graffiti tagging. Can be markings, or even things such as wings, legs, horns, etc.

Inkbrush/Sumi-E/Okami: A Pet with an illusionary mutation OR markings that make them look as if they have had their outline/details drawn with an inkbrush. Sometimes has Wings/hair seemingly made out of liquid ink. May look like they are one dimension if an illusionary mutation or can look three dimensional.

Wood Cut/ukiyo-e : Similar to the Inkbrush/Sumi-e type, but based on ukiyo-e and block print illustrations

Sketch: A pet with markings or an illusionary mutation that makes them look like a pen or pencil sketch.

Paintkin: Pet with physical mutations or elemental hair that look as if they are made out of wet paint.

Landscape: A Pet with a scene seemingly painted on their coats. Sometimes these scenes physically leave the body in the form of Horns or physical mutations.

Glitch: A Pet that has traits or markings that look like a corrupted digital image/video, typically involving Pixels

Can be just markings on a normal soquili or the soquili could look as if it is literally made of stained glass (either appearing two dimension regardless of what angle you look at them (like Inkbrush) or like sculptures

Ghost: Pets that have parts of their body or the entirety of their form to have a ghostly transparency to them, being semi-see through.

X "The Y": Pets that name themselves after what they physically are (Such as a Bearshifter named Bear or a Catshifter named Cat) that will sometimes be given a title to separate the from others of their kind with the same exact name. (example: Bear "The Fluffy one" or Cat "Death dealer")

Gem Ponies: Ponies with Gemstones growing from them. May just be Earth Ulun'suti, may be mutants. OR May be based on the "Gems" from Steven Universe and not have any actual gemstones growing from them but instead accessories to simulate it. Could potentially be Charmedshifters

Charmedshifter: Charmedshifters are pure or Cursed Shifters with angeni charms fused to them to show that they are able to be ANY personality their muse wishes them to be.
