Welcome to my silly life
Mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood
Miss 'No way, it's all good', it didn't slow me down
Mistaken, always second guessing, underestimated
Look, I'm still around

Normally summer was boring and uneventful for Felix, but not this summer. Oh, how Felix wished it was though. He was already having to deal with growing up he was taller but not outrageously so. He was a bit shorter than other boys but that wasn't remotely an issue compared to this summer. His brother had moved out having saved to get his own place and promptly left after he was 18. Things got strained to say the least. Normally when his dad got mad there was some reason, perhaps his team lost, a day where he had worked hard at work. Sure the reasons were stupid but there was a discernable source of the anger. Lately not so much. Felix had taken to skipping breakfast or just hiding in his room to avoid his dad in the mornings. Lately, even his room hadn't been the sanctuary it used to be.
Today was different though. The morning hadn't blown over as it usually did and Felix was not wanting to deal with anything today. Normally he just wanders the neighborhood till things simmered down but even leaving seemed risky. Well, Felix was bad mood today too and wanted to try to clear his head, He would need to pick electives this school year and he wanted to think and assess them he needed to send it soon. This would help decide what he could do in the wizarding workforce so this was very important. He hadn’t even been able to get the shopping done yet. He decided to try and sneak out. His window latch had broken so it was stuck till they could fix it. The only route was the door. He had the great misfortune to get caught red-handed by his dad. If he had got caught by mom she would distract for him and leave it unlocked for his return. But nope he was not lucky this time.
Felix has so been accustomed to getting yelled at he had learned to tune it out just enough. He knew when to respond to avoid dragging it out but he was truly not listening. But today must have been the last one he could handle. He needed to think about himself and what he wanted to do later in life. Why could his dad just ignore him like he use too when he was younger? Felix initially thought he said it in his head but ended up saying it out loud, much to his regret. “Just leave me alone for once, not everything I do has to involve you!” Felix said in angry desperation. While what he said was true it did the opposite of help the situation. Felix knew he made it a lot worse when he felt the hit to his face.
Sure enough, he had pissed off his dad enough to get hit and was told never to backtalk. His left side of his face hurt and his eye was fuzzy for a moment. It had knocked him silly. He had been so caught off guard that he hadn't noticed his mom had come in the just in time to see the blow. Not knowing his mom to get angry even in fight seemed livid now. He had never seen his brother get hit so Felix must have been the first to get hit and apparently last straw for his mom. While no one else got hit there was definitely been shoving and shouting going on between his parents. Felix had retreated by the door and to a corner. He didn't want to risk getting hit again. That had really hurt. The yelling hardly made sense but one particular shout from his mom quieted the yelling even just for a moment.
Wait a second mom was going to divorce dad and take him too? So no more yelling? The hopes rose then got slashed by his dad next statement. He was going to try and have custody of him instead. No! Felix knew he didn't want that! But the part that got his attention was when his dad said ‘even though he's not even my kid.’ He had heard it before but was too young to remember or understand what it meant. But at thirteen he knew that meant his dad wasn't the one who helped him be born. While mean and bitter Felix had never heard his dad lie even to cover up the home life. He always skirts around it or even change the subject entirely. But outright lie? No, not even when angry. That's the one thing other than yelling at him that he could rely on with his dad. His mom retorted But Felix didn't catch it. But his mom said he was when he had asked before. Even last year she said that. “Is it true mom...do I have a different dad?....” He asked choking back tears. He didn't care he was interrupting, he needed to know. He had hoped for reassurance, that even if dad was terrible that she hadn't lied to him. That was the most important to him. He didn't get what he wanted to hear when she sadly admitted his dad was right. Even though she looked like she wanted to say more about it, Felix was not in the mood to hear it. How could his mom lie to him! Feeling extremely betrayed and quite angry, all he could do was react. And that reaction was to run, right out the door.
He didn't think where he was going when he ran but he ended up in the neighborhood park where he would hang when not at home. He just wanted away. If he had a broom he would have just flown to where he didn't worry about home, but he was certain they wouldn't let him stay at Hogwarts for the rest of summer. It would be only thirty minutes but it felt like hours of him crying before his mom pulled up and came over to him. By that point, Felix had guess he had run out of tears or something as he was terribly sad but couldn't cry anymore. While still mad at his mom he knew she was safe to go home with. She mentioned she had gathered some of their stuff including his wand and homework and asked if he would come to grandmas with her. He didn't want to but the alternative was his dad. Just wanting to sleep it off he went to grandma's with his mom.
It was a whirlwind rest of summer. The divorce was started next day with lawyers doing the legwork. Even grandma seemed mad at his dad for such a black eye that he had to go see a doctor. It was going take longer than a normal black eye to heal. Felix also had to talk to some fancy people in suits, especially about his black eye and which parent he preferred. Without hesitation, he said his mom, as much as he was unhappy with her lying to him all this time, he did still love her. His dad was not remotely an option, he was legit scared of his dad and if he hit him once who was to say he wouldn't do it again. His dad got in trouble for hitting Felix. Felix was pretty certain he lost his job too, it not like he would have quit soon anyway. He had got to pick his classes and get the homework done before it was too late. He was no longer mad at his mom but he was still hurt. He rarely trusted people and that trust got shattered. It was going to take a lot to fix it. He kept up his tough demeanor. Though it was fragile he would make sure it didn't crack when anyone was aroubd. What surprised Felix was Owen his brother went and got the rest of their things. Even his trunk that had all his Hogwarts stuff. He even chatted with Felix, applogising for being mean, which helped mend their relationship a bit. Felix was super busy for the rest of the summer getting supplies and school stuff handled. His mom earned some points with him by getting him a kitten. Naming him Splatter or Splat for short he loved it. It made him happy. His mom had signed his Hogsmeade slip before he had even known it arrived. He could go with Eddie! Soon school would be back in session through his black eye had yet to fully heal though it wasn't as bad anymore.

So complicated, look happy, you'll make it
Filled with so much hatred, such a tired game
It's enough, I've done all I can think of
Chased down all my demons, I've seen you do the same
