xxAlchemy: <EE>
While David was always fairly skilled at alchemy, he lacked the patience and/or ability to keep his mind as clear or calm as a true skilled alchemist could. And when it came to the practical portion of the exam, his determination to do perfect on the exam, and in fact gave an O, hindered his ability to perform alchemy spells as he by no means had a pure intent on doing his spell work. At the end of the exam he was well aware of that fact and feared he had in fact, by overthinking and stressing about perfection for the sake of good performance and coming off well, he had in fact hurt any chance he had on getting an O due to hindering himself. David was very much correct in this as it showed when he got his final OWL score.
xxCooking with Magic: <P>
David would much rather pretend this exam never happened and firmly stands on the theory that the few hours of this exam never happened-granted he took it and the score proves he did show up. While David could do the actual spells required for the class and could memorize measurements and recipes, he was completely unable to apply any of the knowledge in the kitchen. He refuses to disclose the details of how the practical went-but one of the examiners had stated he had doubts that David League could make a cup of tea without risking poisoning someone with a particularly weak stomach. The only thing that made him manage not to score a D or T on the exam was he did show up and had at least known the answers for the written portion of the exam.
xxCursebreaking: <EE>
The fact that David never particularly cared for riddles of any sort was his greatest undoing in the cursebreaking exams. He had always preferred more straightforward answers unless it came to a subject like healing. Also, he always thought having cursed objects floating around was creepy and thus didn't obsess over the subject like he tended to in his other classes. He had been close to getting an O, but his lack of patience and his constant line of thought on who in their right mind would think keeping cursed items around was a good idea in the first place, and then remembering it was something his maternal family might do, kept distracting him throughout the exams. He was fine settling for an EE on the exam though as he was confident it was a solidly earned score and nothing too horrific granted how he was fairly confident his other exams would go.
