The herd is now public! Thanks again to everyone who participated in the contest; this herd would not have opened so quickly if not for you!

Please keep in mind that the thread is not entirely complete, and I will continue to add to the information available (and post updates as I do so). However, users are free to contact me at any time, and I will be happy to clarify or fill in the missing details!

In addition, after reading the entries, I have chosen to clarify or add these points:

  • Killing (The Code of Edda > Core Beliefs > Judge and Jury). The valkyries do not see killing (with bodily weapons) as a negative thing, which is where the conflict with outsiders stems from. To them, killing is a mercy, a favor, and a blessing. It is not "ending another’s life" so much as "sending them to paradise" – and paradise, by its very definition, is the place where an individual may find bliss. Even if an individual were entirely happy and content in the mortal realm, surrounded by friends, family, and riches, they are sure to find something better in Valhalla. To send someone to Valhalla is not to take away, but to give. It is the greatest honor a valkyrie can bestow.
  • Taint (The Code of Edda > Core Beliefs > Taint). Finding someone worthy, yet choosing not to kill them (or being unable to kill them), does not taint a valkyrie. It is the valkyrie’s right to judge, and in this case, she has clearly decided that whatever factor is stopping her takes priority over her need to send an individual to Valhalla. To put another way, the individual is not worthy enough to bypass the factor that prevents the valkyrie from killing. However, although this does not result in taint, it may be perceived as selfish by her peers, and the valkyrie may be looked down upon.
  • Tracking (The Culture > Education > Skills). The herd territory is large, and nearly all valkyries travel at least once in their lifetime. Thus, children are taught to scout and observe the area, so that they may understand the environment they are in and recognize the fauna and flora that are a part of it. They are trained to navigate the vast herd territory, and these skills will be expanded upon in field trips so that they may learn to find their way back to the herd once they begin traveling. Most mentors focus on the stars, as they are easily visible and do not change in a soquili's life time. However, some prefer to build compasses, though these are considered less reliable as they may drift depending on the magnetic field. Children are also taught how to track prey and search for other individuals.
  • Edda’s Advisers (The Followers of Edda; The Forms > Joining > Edda's Advisers). Advisers are the trusted few whose opinions hold more weight with Edda due to the experiences they have gone through and the knowledge they have accumulated. A valkyrie does not ask to be an adviser; rather, she is chosen, either by the council of existing advisors, or by Edda herself. (Users may apply OOC in the future; IC, however, your valkyrie would have been approached by existing advisers.)

THE SOQUILI
Name: Kawah Ijen
User Image

Rank: Member
Age: Young Adult

Personality: In general this mare is "ardent", enthusiastic and passionate about her beliefs and the cause she supports; burning. Basically, Kawah is a spitfire, a dancer in the flames of life. She's what some might describe as reckless, and certainly a bit of a hot-head if you ruffle her feathers. She can also be stubborn and downright impossible; it's no good trying to change her mind once it's been made up either, you'd sooner talk a volcano out of erupting. But she's a good friend, true and unwavering and proud, as solid as the mountains.

How did she join? Adopted: In the wake of a great avalanache that endangered the CoE Herd, Kawah Ijen arrived to lend aid. She was in the area at the time and saw Keshani striving to rescue those trapped by the snow, the Kalona-cross mare throwing herself between foals and a rush of snow and ice. With Kawah's intervention they were able to shepherd the foals to safety in a nearby cave, and set up a fire to keep them warm as they worked to ensure no one else was encased in the snow. That task done, the two mares remained behind to help the herd rebuild, and were eventually adopted.

History: Kawah Ijen hails from the far South West, beyond the Reef and the Trench. Born to a small island colony that was largely winged and able to move throughout the chain of island they called their home, she hails from a place that few in the land have heard of and none have been to. This small island clan are a simple lot; worshiping the islands that rise out of the sea to give them shelter, the sea which can take away their home whenever she chooses, and the volcanoes that are part of the chain and frequently birth new islands for them to expand to.
Because of this belief structure, the herd worships the islands more fervently perhaps than the other spirits they give thanks to, for if the volcanoes were to cease they would have no more homeland and if they were to overact the herd would be destroyed. As such, when Kawah Ijen was born with fire in her mane the color of the hottest magma, the herd took it as an omen. Declaring her a living personification of the volcano, she was relocated to a valley up in the mountains and hailed as a walking deity. To appease her -and the volcano she represented- the filly (and later, young mare) was given offerings of flowers, fruit, and various fodder as well as decorative trinkets for her person (beaded pieces, earrings, necklaces, wing adornments and the like). Upon reaching adulthood she was also offered stallions for companionship and amusement.
Little is known about what befell the herd and why she has come to this land... But she is still a child of the Volcano, of black rock and voluminous smoke, of lava that creeps and burns and sparks that fly high and fast. Having left her volcano and herd behind, Kawah Ijen drifts through the lands in search of a new home. A little aimless at the moment, she has a habit of starting fires where she goes. Not necessarily all of the physical kind, she's liable to provoke thought and action in those she interacts with due to her curious nature. Sometimes her asking 'why' is harmless, sometimes it's the herald of an avalanche. Still, she means well and learns much and seeks a new home, a cause to serve or a people to believe in.

The Code
How dedicated is she to the laws? Kawah was part of a culture that believed in sacrifice for the good of all and how that would enable one to find paradise. So she does not find much difficulty in believing in the death of one granting them ultimate paradise. She is extremely dedicated to the laws.
How does she judge who is and who is not worthy of Valhalla? Kawah would need to find a Soquili that was strong and kind, and showed an inherent nobility, a general "wow" factor. He would need to be ambitious, a stallion of thought and action, and not merely a passive creature. If this is a paradise beyond all knowing, you would really need to impress her.
How does she kill? If Kawah one day finds one she feels is worthy, she will indeed say a prayer commending them to Valhalla before dealing them their death; regardless of whether she kills them with use of her hooves, horn or the fire that is hers to call. As she was once hailed as a deity and has seen her herd sacrifice a member to the embrace of the volcano before determining her a vessle of its will, she believes there is a certain ceremony to be observed for all deaths. Even those that were sent as gifts to her underwent a purification and pampering process, after all.
How does she deal with the backlash? Kawah was once the creature to which the sacrifice was made, and saw great honor in the beliefs of her herd. As she has found a new herd and a new way, she follows it with all of her heart and believe its teachings to be truth. As such, she will avoid the family of those she finds worthy, and may indeed avoid mingling with commoners outside of investigating those she believes to have the potential for Valhalla.
Is she tainted in any way? No. Kawah is serene and true in her beliefs, just as she is the living volcano so is she doing Edda's will by sending the worthy to Valhalla. There is no greater honor than that, and she will be sure one is worthy before bestowing that honor upon them.

The Herd
Where does she live? Cave Dormitory (for now)
What does she do? As Kawah is from a far off island and does not care to return there, it is rare that she will travel outside the herd for her own devices. She might go on exploration flights when she feels confined, but otherwise will largely remain within the herd territory. Wandering, singing songs she knows from her homeland, and admiring the life around her will bring her joy and relaxation.
What does she do on her travels? Aside from searching for those that are worthy of Valhalla and potential stallions to sire powerful Valkyrie, she will certainly look for those that intrigue her in some way. As she likes news and learning things, she might visit with herbalists and healers, to see if they know of honorable souls, warriors or skilled stallions that may be of use. Because of her past among the island herd and their beliefs and sacrifices, it is unlikely that she will widely share the views of the herd. However, if she feels she has found a like minded individual she may share bits and pieces, in order to ascertain if they are worthy of Valhalla or have the potential to become a valkyrie. While she is not shy, she undertands that the family of those considered wothy will not thank her for the honor, as none of them did on her island home.
How likely is she to bring friends or temporary lovers to visit and how long do they stay? As Kawah is somewhat unlikely to really open herself up to outsiders without a lengthy "interview process" it is rather unlikely for her to bring friends or temporary lovers back to the herd. For the most part she will strongly favored winged courtships (because of her history and the Valkyrie ideals) so there is a possibility she might determine a stallion is worthy of such an honor and allow him to visit and meet her sisters for a time.
How closely does she follow the culture? As Kawah grew up cut off from her home herd/culture as a living deity/personification of the volcano she is by nature solitary and independent. She approves of the instruction and education offered by the herd. On the whole she will closely adhere to the culture of the herd, as the courtship practices also align with her own preferences.

Children
What kind of breeding partner will she look for? Kawah Ijen is open for Flings, Wishing Stars or even Repeat breeding situations (depending). It is somewhat unlikely she will Lifemate, though possible with the appropriate candidate that manages to impress her with himself and the progeny he produces. On the whole she prefers someone of intelligence, winged and those with tools (such as horns, sharp teeth, paws or claws) at their disposal. Extra eyes or those that glow/seem unusual and therefore keen will also be favored. She will also favor the stallion that will pass these weapons to their offspring and therefore help her breed strong Valkyrie children (as such, if a stallion produces some exemplary children she may repeat the courtship).
What will she do if she cannot make it back to the herd in time to raise her children there? For the most part Kawah plans to stay with the herd, as she is something of a stranger in this land and has no relatives (also, few friends outside the herd). It is therefore rather unlikely she would go too far from the herd once she is heavily pregnant. Should she be caught away from the herd she would likely be in the presence of one of her sisters, likely Keshani, who would aid her as best as possible.
How committed is she to raising her children the valkyrian way? Kawah would be quite committed to raising her children the Valkyrian way, having grown up with a strong belief system and feeling as though it helped shape her for the best. Unless a daughter proved herself highly unsuitable for the herd, she would prefer they be raised within herd territory and herd beliefs. In the generality she would prioritize females as they are the Valkyrie, and be more likely to allow a son to be raised by his sire/someone outside of the herd. However, in specifics it might depend on the foal in question, personalities, if their views clash, etc. If she feels utterly disconnected from a filly but wishes for the daughter to be raised a Valkyrie, she might seek help from the herd.
How does she help raise children? Kawah Ijen is a skilled singer and storyteller, due to the traditions of her former herd. She is also an accomplished dancer (The Fire Dancer) and beliefs both song and dance can be a very important part of ritual. Lessons on alternate spiritualities or beliefs (gleaned from her wanderings) could also be shared with foals as she was once an outsider and would have a better scope of this than those born to the herd.
How (un)likely is she to adopt? If a foal was rejected by a parent, found abandoned in the territory or in some other way in need of guidance, it is very possible she would step forward to raise the youngling.

THE SOQUILI
Name: Keshani Avenara
User Image

Rank: Member
Age: Young Adult

Personality: Kalona fierce, there are times when Keshani might be considered 'evil' by those that do not know her. She is bull-headed and fearless, having contended with kalona superiority since foalhood. Keshani is somewhat cool and distant, fearless and with a bit of a chip on her shoulder because the pure bloods look down on her. Her noticeable mixed blood never mattered much to her father, who doted on her sometimes even above his other children. She felt closest to him, at least, though her bond with her brother has always been strong. Growing up with her pure-looking sire and brother, she was always aware that her wind wings made her stand out. Of course, being raised as she was, she didn't exactly care. It certainly didn't make her any meeker when encountered with Pure Kalona, and her fearless nature got her into trouble more than once.
In spite of the fact that her wings make Kalona look down on her, Kesha loves feathered wings, and particularly admires Angeni/Hippogryph and the more unique types. The infatuation with 'hybrid' or unique wing styles stems from an encounter with a strange colt (Ezra) during her foalhood. Though it has been a lifetime since they crossed paths, she still looks for intriguing wings and was thus interested enough in the wandering Practitioner of Edda -Elijah- to learn more of the herd he hailed from.
Keshani once adopted and lost a daughter, and therefore has become somewhat withdrawn and angered by the loss. To this end she travels in search of something to invest herself in once more, and upon spying foals in danger from the avalanche could not help but intervene.

How did she join? Adopted: In the course of flying over the land on the way to some entertainment or another, Keshani Avenara noticed an avalanche start in the mountains. Though such a thing would normally be of little interest to her, her attention was caught when it swept through a pass and bore down on a group of foals. For reasons unknown to the Kalona-cross mare, she dove from the sky and threw herself into the group, shoving them out of the way and protecting the from the snow as best she could.
When the snow and ice had settled she began busting/digging foals and nearby survivors out, and was startled by the arrival of Kawah Ijen. Working in tandem the two mares managed to rescue and ferry survivors to a nearby cave where the Suti-Griff mare started a fire to warm them. Eventually the survivors had been rescued, but in the wake of destruction Keshani elected to remain and help the herd rebuild. This decision was further influenced by a renewed acquaitence with a foalhood friend, Ezra.

History: Born to the groundwalker mare Kanti Nuttah and the Kalona stallion Aveshar... Keshani went into the basket as all Soquili foals do, then stepped out ready to take on the world. She had no idea what horrors awaited her, but it didn't stop her then and it won't stop her now. Unbeknownst to the foals, their mother encountered a cursed force and found herself as a Skinwalker, a hunting cat with no knowledge of herself or the family she had left behind. The only thing that remained was a burning hatred for Aveshar and a need to hunt his foals, her own foals, and Keshani was amongst these. As a result of her mother's madness, Keshani grew up with her father shadowing her steps and teaching her how to fight and defend herself. She is always treated as a lesser creature by pure Kalona, but that doesn't hold her back. Keshani is fearless, and frequently this means she runs her mouth in ways guaranteed to get her into trouble, and she'll step up to the plate no matter who the opposing force is.
In her youth this and her willful wandering led to her crossing paths with the colt Ezra, an unusual combination of glinting red eyes, silent paws, and wings the likes of which Kesha had not seen before or since. She still thinks fondly of her childhood friend, and perhaps that is why she found it so easy to befriend Elijah while wandering. Though she did not know this was the brother of the colt she once knew, later she leapt into action to protect foals from an avalanche and was reunited with both stallions. Happily enough, she also found herself in a herd that suited her perfectly, with the added bonus of a 'mother figure' in the Valkyrie Rouxe.

The Code
How dedicated is she to the laws? Keshani has long-searched for a code she could support and trust. She 100% believes in the laws.
How does she judge who is and who is not worthy of Valhalla? Keshani is wretchedly difficult to impress, and sugar-sweetness isn't going to do it. If someone is worthy of Valhalla, they'll need to be keen and clever (and probably a bit dangerous, or at least capable of handling themselves) though breed is unlikely to matter. She'd be grudgingly impressed by selfless acts, but they would need a sort of spark to prove they were something special and not a boring goody-four-shoes like some of her more distant relatives. Feats of strength or daring may also serve to draw her attention to worthy candidates.
How does she kill? Keshani is no bleeding heart, and if she were to find one she considered worthy of Valhalla, she would strike quickly. She might speak words once the deed was done, but there would be no hesitation for the kill. To hesitate might allow the candidate to escape, and that would mean failure.
How does she deal with the backlash? Truth be told, Keshani is the daughter of a Kalona stallion and a Skinwalker mare; she cares very little for the general opinions of others. She grew up being feared by regulars/winds, and looked down upon by pure Kalona. Somewhat adrift from all the types that she represents, she only found acceptance and solace in the company of her brother and sire. As such, others can hate her or fear her as they like. It makes no difference.
Is she tainted in any way? As she is hard to impress it is unlikely that Keshani would kill the unworthy. Likewise, as she is somewhat remorseless or cold (which may relax later) as well as confident in herself she rarely -if ever- second guesses herself or questions her own judgement. She is not tainted.

The Herd
Where does she live? Cave Dormitory
What does she do? In addition to being proud to teach hunting, tracking, stealth and various fighting arts Keshani would be pleased to hunt on behalf of the herd. She's also a very good storyteller and an incredible singer, if one can catch her in the mood. Her night flights with her glowing wings are also quite an entertainment, but it is rare indeed she'll perform in such a way. Beyond these and visiting her family, she might swim or go wading as a relaxation activity, or merely wander to pass the time.
How often does she travel and where does she go? So long as there are not daily lessons needed (for foals of the herd) or in general a great deal of work to be done, Keshani will travel regularly. For the most part she will be visiting her sire and her brother on a fairly frequent basis, and may therefore also spend time with/educate her brother's offspring. She will certainly be present during the equinox festivals and spend the majority of her time with the herd. However, her sireline is important to her so she will travel/welcome his visits to keep that social and blood connection strong. She acknowldges Rouxe of the herd as her mother, so spending time with Rouxe will also be important to her. Whether this is done through quiet visits, grooming or social activities will hardly matter.
What does she do on her travels? When not seeking out possible females with valkyrie potential or stallions to sire new valkyrie progeny, it is likely Keshani is visiting one of two family members. Her bond with her sire and brother is both still strong and true, and as her brother is expecting foals and it is a family tradition that elder generations advise the children, it is very possible she will be taking time to teach her nieces/nephews when she can. As they do not live far away, it is likely this could be performed something like day trips, where she darts away and promptly returns.
As Keshani tends to be combative or play things close to the vest, it is unlikely she will take to widely educating those about the herd. If one does something particularly impressive she is likely to take notice and lessons could occur from there, but as she's likely to lose her temper if someone argues with her or picks a fight she'd keep the details to a minimum.
How likely is she to bring friends or temporary lovers to visit and how long do they stay? Keshani holds very few friends, even fewer outside of the herd. Though her sire or brother might visit if the herd approves, she wouldn't be likely to bring home many guests. Then again, the possibility of lovers visiting is not outside of the question; this would depend on the lovers she finds.
How closely does she follow the culture? Keshani thrives in solitude and will throw every ounce of will behind a cause she believes in such as the Code. She has no familiar at this time but would likely favor a fox or raven as a companion, thinking them superior. She is happy to travel especially to visit her kin, but will be present in the herd for most major events. Regarding love, a stallion would have to work awfully hard to impress her that much! However, strong babies that will not again be murdered before her eyes are a priority, and a powerful sire means strong offspring... Which would be enough to encourage repeat breedings on top of general fondness. She'd be fine with functioning as a teacher for children but would be very unlikely to adopt due to occurrences in her past. She's also very likely to be a stern and demanding task mistress, because she has learned in a life and death situation and she wants the outcome for her students to be 'life'. She is pleased to teach what she knows to any who wish to listen; however beyond song and story she has no art trade.

Children
What kind of breeding partner will she look for? Keshani favors feathered wing styles, but will generally admire cunning, strength, a dangerous sort of charm, and skill. She'll prefer a stallion with some size to him, as well as one with hooves/ claws/ paws/ horns/ teeth/extra eyes that can serve as weapons for her children. A general imposing feature or appearance would not be unwelcome, she thrives on the unusual. She is half Kalona and therefore a meat-eater and hunter, and will probably prefer this continue in her offspring. As she has had a fling by the time she joins the herd, she will be first and foremost seeking a strong breeding partner to ensure strong offspring. If this happens to be the same stallion time after time, so be it. He can be a lifemate or merely a recognized producer of superior offspring that she happens to be fond of.
What will she do if she cannot make it back to the herd in time to raise her children there? As previously stated, the only reason for Kesha to leave the herd outside of seeking future valkyrie candidates/breeding prospects would be to visit her kin. In the event she foaled out in the world, she would likely retreat to her sire's territory to do so. If Aveshar had been permitted to visit the herd by this point, it is likely he would be sent (by his strongwilled daughter) to inform the herd of this development and return with a sister, the foals' sire, etc as necessary.
How committed is she to raising her children the valkyrian way? Because of her keen loyalty to her Sire and the traditions of the Fayth Clan (of which she is a part, though of the Noire Line) Kesha would prefer any children bearing marks of the Fayth's Favor also be educated regarding Faythren Clan history (in addition to the Valkyrian lessons). As such, she would expect that her sire and brother meet/interact with the foals even if they are being raised by/within the herd. If something were to occur there is also a possibility of her male relations taking responsibility of the children and raising them in the Fayth style, outside of the herd. To start with, daughters may be a somewhat painful subject for Keshani (possibly smothering/overprotective response/reluctant to let them hunt larger game on their own). However, a strongwilled child that she can see herself in would fairly quickly win her over and gain all expected freedoms. Still, to start with this may result in her first batch of foals seeing the colts receive a certain element of freedom that Kesha has to work to allow the fillies. (She will quickly snap out of this, it is merely a fear response.)
How does she help raise children? As a keen huntress, Keshani would be pleased to teach hunting, stealth and tracking. She also knows some herbal remedies and battle tactics. She will be happy to be a -teacher- in general, but does not wish to be any sort of adopted parent due to what happened to her last foundling child. However, because of this tragedy she is a demanding task-mistress, she will not have another young hunter die on her watch.
How (un)likely is she to adopt? Tragedy befell the filly Keshani once cared to adopt, resulting in her injury and death. As such, Kesha has no interest in adopting someone else's children, but will in fact welcome blood-of-her-blood to guard and guide. Remember, her love is Kalona fierce, in spite of her initial cold or uncaring demeanor.

THE SOQUILI
Name: Adrasteia
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Rank: Member
Age: Young Adult

Personality: On the surface, Adrasteia has a very serious, polished front. She maintains a certain level of distance from others, always cautious about opening up and exposing too much of herself. While she can seem downright cold to some strangers outside Edda's culture, she is not overly rude. In fact, she strives to be as polite as possible while maintaining her distance, always mindful about serving as a good example for those who might be unfamiliar with her herd and its culture. The last thing she'd want is for an interaction with her to negatively impact her sisters in any way.

The truth is, while she may seem aloof to outsiders, Adrasteia is remarkably warm and downright affable among her fellow valkyries and those she chooses to open up to. Her distance is solely a product of pragmatism - it's simpler to show her true self to those she knows will join her someday in Valhalla. Of course, that isn't to say she isolates herself entirely from the unworthy. Just that she's hesitant to grow too close. Among those she is close to, all her walls fall away to show a friendly spirit, always willing to offer a shoulder to lean on. She's entirely comfortable filling in a supportive role with her friends, and more than eager to attempt to correct anyone who may have wronged them.

And perhaps that is her true core, for Adrasteia has a very strong sense of what is Right and Just and what isn't. She was raised to judge the worthy, after all, and nothing angers her quicker than seeing someone doling out misdeeds and going unpunished. And sometimes, knowing they'll be denied entrance into Valhalla just isn't enough to satisfy her. She needs to see justice handed to them in this life, sometimes personally. It's not a task she takes lightly. She knows the valkyries are in a precarious position with those not of Edda's culture, but in her mind, seeing to it that the wicked get what they're due can only help how others perceive her and her sisters.

After all, why would someone ever be upset over someone punishing evil?

How did she join? Born to Rouxe after an arranged fling with Viracocha of the Kateri.

Coming of Age Ceremony: Adrasteia and an agemate were tasked to investigate rumors of a vicious clawed creature that'd been spotted not far outside the herd's territory. They were given very little information to work with, and the trial was just as much about finding out the truth as it was tracking the creature. While they made quick and efficient work of the tracking portion, when they finally found the creature they were caught off guard and attacked. Her partner received a vicious laceration to her foreleg that made it impossible for her to walk, leading to her failing the trial. However, before the adults could intervene, Adrasteia moved to defend her partner, fending off the creature. Thanks to her quick actions, the creature was scared from the herd's territory and the adults shadowing them were able to move in to heal her partner's leg, leaving no permanent damage.

History: [WIP because I'm lazy.]

The Code
How dedicated is she to the laws? Adrasteia is absolutely dedicated to Edda's Laws, and wouldn't break them upon pain of death. As far as she's concerned, there's no wiggle room - it's not as if the laws are particularly complex or unreasonable. Follow the word of Edda and don't take the life of another valkyrie. While she'd happily kill any Forsaken who've broken their laws, that wouldn't really count as killing a valkyrie, seeing as they've dropped their title - and she most certainly wouldn't be killing them in any manner that would allow them into Valhalla. They gave up that right when they abandoned Edda.
How does she judge who is and who is not worthy of Valhalla? While physical strength is certainly an attractive quality, the traits Adrasteia are truly drawn to are ones that are much rarer. The honorable and the just are the quickest to catch her eye, but only the most truly exceptional among them will result in her consideration. Those with the rare strength to stand in the face of injustice and fight against it, to lift their heads high and vehemently say this is wrong and they refuse to stand by and let it happen. Those are the truly worthy in her eyes, and she'll accept nothing less. But most importantly, those she would actively turn away from would be the cruel and traitorous. The very kinds of soquili that her worthy would stand up against.
How does she kill? Adrasteia strives to make the transition from Earth to Valhalla as gentle as possible on her chosen. If possible she attempts to seek them out when they're alone, offering them a sweet treat laced with sedative herbs that ease them to sleep. Only when she's sure they're unconscious does she finally kill them in a single move - by piercing their hearts with her horn. After death, she'll burn the bodies until only ash is left, to prevent scavengers from dishonoring the remains by eating them. Only when there's nothing left will she finally depart.
How does she deal with the backlash? Generally Adrasteia does her best to ensure her kills aren't even truly noticed. She will observe from afar or with a second set of eyes that can't be easily traced back to her, and will approach when her chosen is alone. Her kills leave no trace of a struggle, and the bodies are burnt down to ash. When she sends a soquili to Valhalla, more likely than not their loved ones will think they merely disappeared without a trace.
Is she tainted in any way? Absolutely not! Adrasteia is meticulous about controlling her reactions. You wouldn't find her lashing out in any way that could accidentally kill the unworthy, and she wouldn't dare send a soquili to Valhalla until she knew without a shadow of a doubt that they belonged there. Her choices are made with the utmost confidence.

The Herd
Where does she live? While Adrasteia frequently travels, her chosen permanent home is a cave closer to the visiting area and near a garden. The proximity is purely strategic - she has a living weapon that can't officially join the herd and she makes use of sedative herbs when she sends worthy soquili to Valhalla. To have easy access to both these areas makes her daily life more convenient.
What does she do? Adrasteia primarily tends to the gardens or takes on border patrols when among the herd, although she'll offer help wherever it's needed on any given day. While gardening is her favorite activity to unwind with, she'll watch performances in the amphitheater when her personal garden doesn't need tending. Socializing with her sisters is something very important to her as well, especially if she can do so while engaging in a little bit of mutual grooming.
How often does she travel and where does she go? Adrasteia usually spends more time away from the herd than within its territory, although she tries to return for each equinox, regardless of how far out of the way it is for her. There's only one place outside the herd that she could be said to frequent - the home of the Phoenix Maidens, which serves as a spa for visitors. She tends to visit there about once a season to get her feathers properly preened and relax in the hot springs. Other than that, she travels far and wide and rarely stays in one place for more than a few weeks at a time.
What does she do on her travels? For the most part, Adrasteia tries to keep her distance from soquili she knows aren't followers of Edda. It's easier than getting personally involved, and she's capable of doing most of her observation from a distance with the use of a scout. In the event she finds someone she thinks might be worthy, she'll begin to observe them more closely while taking efforts not to be connected to them. She is drawn to more populated areas, or areas where there is oppression or war. Those are the best places to find both the worthy and strong breeding partners. When she isn't searching for either of those, she'll offer her skills as a warrior to what she feels are righteous causes - hunting down murderers and traitors or joining in battles against the wicked. She rarely reveals her status as a valkyrie, choosing to do so only in the unlikely event she forms a strong bond with someone and feels she can trust them enough to educate them.
How likely is she to bring friends or temporary lovers to visit and how long do they stay? Highly unlikely. Adrasteia keeps her life outside the herd separate from her life inside it. For the most part, friends and lovers outside of Edda's culture remain that way - unless they're close enough to know she's a valkyrie and willing to try to understand her culture. She might bring those kinds of soquili to the herd for the equinox festivals, but she's careful not to bring anyone that might overstay their welcome. The only exception she makes is for her living weapon - who has a semi-permanent residence in the visitor's area where he stays when she's in the herd.
How closely does she follow the culture? If there are discrepancies, please describe them. Adrasteia prides herself on being an exemplary valkyrie. She was born to the culture, and even exposure to the outside hasn't swayed her confidence in the practices of her home. In fact, the closest she gets to a discrepancy is the fact that she hasn't sent her living weapon to Valhalla yet - someone who is her closest companion on Earth. She's adamant that her sisters not do it for her, either. While he is most certainly worthy, he still has a purpose to fulfill on Earth, and she'll personally send him when his duty to her is finally complete.

Children
What kind of breeding partner will she look for? While it might be considered unusual to outsiders, Adrasteia is careful to keep breeding and romance strictly separated. Most of her breeding partners will be singular arrangements to create strong offspring. While it's possible she might use a partner for more than one breeding, it wouldn't be out of a sense of romance - if anything, it would be because she felt they made particularly strong offspring the first time and it would benefit the herd for them to breed again. Overall she's drawn to the same traits most valkyries are drawn to - feathers, wings, bodily weapons, and unusual eyes. But particularly noteworthy is that she seems to prefer pureblooded Ulun'suti, which has the advantage of allowing her offspring to inherit some of their elemental powers.
What will she do if she cannot make it back to the herd in time to raise her children there? While the situation would be highly unlikely since Adrasteia would be inclined to return to the herd as soon as she'd confirmed she was pregnant, in the event she was unable to and had to give birth outside of it she would raise all her children, regardless of gender, just the same as they would be raised in the herd. She'd begin with lessons on healing and tracking just as the Mothers at home would, and transport her children to the herd as soon as they were strong enough to make the journey. Along the way she'd likely teach hunting and some self-defense, but would leave the more intense lessons for when they were safely in the herd.
How committed is she to raising her children the valkyrian way? Pretty much the only situation where Adrasteia would consent to her daughters being raised outside the herd would be if Edda specifically commanded her to do so - which is to say, it's highly likely it's never happening. While she would want all her children raised in the herd, if the father was adamant about keeping the sons and proved himself capable of raising them, she might relent and allow him to keep them. But if she had her way, she'd prefer they be raised within the herd as well. Even if her sons can't be valkyries themselves, having more males raised within the herd and eventually living in the outside world can improve understanding among those who don't follow the Code.
How does she help raise children? Adrasteia's involvement in child rearing is minimal due to how often she's outside the herd, but when she's inside it her main offered electives are herb lore and gardening. She's extremely knowledgeable on which plants can be used for sedatives or poisons, so those looking for more guidance of that nature would likely be sent to her as one of their first options. She also offers encouragement to any children who seem like they might be hesitant to follow their own desires. As a youth, she felt pressured to go in a certain direction, and she tries to ensure the next generation won't have to experience that same kind of pressure.
How (un)likely is she to adopt? In the event she came across a truly orphaned basket or foal, Adrasteia's first instinct would be to bring them to Edda. She'd leave the final decision on their adoption into the herd to her.

THE SOQUILI
Name: Skuld
User Image

Rank: Member
Age: Young adult

Personality: Judgmental of everything and everyone. The spirit of a wise old soul, who is not easily amused by anything, or anyone. (Like a crotchety old man, bwahahahaha. *cough* Kidding.) Strongly attracted to fate. Believes she controls the path of Soquili. Chosen by Skuld, she will decide if you live, or die. Normally, if she is passing judgement, it means a critical moment of life or death. Rarely, will she send the dead to Valhalla, to be in paradise. It is hard to find worth in her fiery eyes, for such a tribute. In a past lifetime, it might have been easier to find worth in her eyes.

How did she join? Born to the herd. During last years Equinox, the spirits bestowed the herd with two twin baskets. They were believed a gift from the Gods themselves, given they resembled none of the herd, and were placed so carefully in the heart of the city of Edda.

Coming of Age Ceremony: Can be found here.

History: Sundrbornar mjök; of many births. Skuld is an ancient soul, born to many forms. Her past lives are many. Memory of each, is like remembering a dream. She can recall some more vividly than others. The mind has a way of filling in the parts it doesn't remember. In each life, she lived by the Code, even if indirectly, if she didn't know about the Code in a previous life. In each, she still judged others, and had titles such as these: Valkyr, Valkyrie, Norn, Decider of Fates, Slayer of Kings, shield-maiden, swan-maiden. In one of her most remembered past lives, she helped sway a powerful battle of kings. Both kings had their own personal motive, in a war of lands. Great numbers were to die on the battlefield for years to come. Guided by Valhalla, she judged which king should be worthy of ruling, and which would be worthy of living in paradise. The judgement, would be choosing a worthy soul to send to Valhalla, and choosing a good king at the same time. The battle waged on under her watchful eye, as she spied on each king in equal measure. She befriended them both unawares to each king, and told neither of her plot to kill. At one point, while having affairs with one of the kings, she had a vision of Valhalla. The next day, when visiting the other king, she had a vision again, of the eternal paradise. Both were worthy. At that point, the decision was hers, to choose which to kill. In the end, she choose the one she fell in love with, to spend eternity with Valhalla. The decision did not come easy. When the time came, she killed more than the king. She ended up taking her own life, thinking that she could join him. Valhalla wasn't finished with her though, and she was reborn again. Skuld spent one lifetime being bitter after that instance, and had many lovers, a few of which also were sent to paradise. One of which, was a strong knight that fought for his right to live, and wounded her. That was the last she sent to Valhalla in that lifetime, sinking into a time of solitude. In this lifetime, she has vowed to love none. She's done sulking, and is ready to do her duty to the Code of Edda, and Valhalla.

The Code
How dedicated is she to the laws? 100% dedicated.
How does she judge who is and who is not worthy of Valhalla? After living as long as she has when you add up all the years of her past lives, judgement has become a sixth sense for Skuld. Her whole world revolves around being in tune to that sense that she has. Time has taught her to ignore all else, when she finds someone that attracts her as a possible target. She then spends time studying them, to be 110% certain. There are no mistakes on who is worthy by the time she deems someone a good candidate. Or so she thinks!
How does she kill? In this life, she has been given a challenging size. It will not stop her from being able to kill another. Depending on the size of the foe, would depend on the execution of the kill. If it can be done without combat, she would do so. She isn't foolish enough to think she's able to win any battle. She will kill them, however necessary to get the job done without bringing injury to herself. She keeps her claws sharp, and her teeth healthy. They are her final weapons, to seal the fate of a chosen.
How does she deal with the backlash? Skuld has no time for criticism. She sucks her teeth, and would turn her back on anyone who questioned her way of life. Nor does she feel the need to explain who she is, that they would disgrace. They are unworthy of her time.
Is she tainted in any way? Never.

The Herd
Where does she live? In a cave slightly bigger than a fox hole! Only her and Eier are of a size to enter through the entrance. It's located in the labyrinth, but not too far in.
What does she do? Skuld is very interested in the military, and defending the herd. She feels the need to prove herself not to be small and overlooked. Hunting is a hobby for her too, that she uses to keep her skills sharp. She will forage while hunting, if there's a need, but would prefer not to. If you catch her in the mood (especially the drunken kind), she will share with you one of her many lifes stories.
How often does she travel and where does she go? Home will always be at the heart of the herd. Only with careful planning, will she take leave for a few days, to a couple weeks at a time. She feels this is a way to expose herself to as many soquili as possible, to assure she does not miss any that are worthy. Always to return, and support the herd.
What does she do on her travels? She explores the lands, markets, and towns. Gazing over them with a watchful eye, to see if she is guided to learn more about any of them. Skuld waits for that unavoidable feeling, that sense that she needs to know someone. That's what starts the process to see if someone is worthy.
How likely is she to bring friends or temporary lovers to visit and how long do they stay? Not likely at all. Skuld is too bitter and old, in spirit, to have friends or lovers in this lifetime.
How closely does she follow the culture? If there are discrepancies, please describe them. She was raised by them, and follows them in full.

Children
What kind of breeding partner will she look for? Strictly flings.
What will she do if she cannot make it back to the herd in time to raise her children there? She would raise them as a mother should, and relocate to the herd as soon as she could. Sex would not matter while raising them. She would teach them equally about the Code. If the male became of age before she could ever return to the herd, she would make sure he was provided for, and loved by an adoptive family.
How committed is she to raising her children the valkyrian way? She's very dedicated to raising them under the Code. That way, she can see them again in Valhalla.
How does she help raise children? Skuld would prefer to not be bothered with raising pups. However, Eier loves bringing foals into their cave. She entertains them as if they were her own, and is not cruel to them if they visit.
How (un)likely is she to adopt? Not at all likely. She would prefer to have her own blood. She might be more likely to let another Valkr adopt though, and would not abandon a lone child.

THE SOQUILI
Name: Eier
User Image

Rank: Member
Age: Young adult

Personality: Much more reserved than her twin sister Skuld. Eier is a quiet intellect, and prefers to keep her distance from others outside of the herd. With herd mates, she is diligent and respectful, and does what she can to serve them. The exception to talking to outsiders, would be when they are in need of medical attention. Then she will tend to them as if they were part of the herd. Once her services aren't needed, she will part without saying goodbye. Silently weeps for a future foretold to her by the Gods, in a repeating dream. Sometimes the dream is a fragment, other times, it is like watching herself live a life she cannot control. The dream is not one she shares with anyone but Skuld. Needs to overcome her self doubt, which is the root of her nightmares. She is stronger than she gives herself credit for.

How did she join? Born to the herd. During last years Equinox, the spirits bestowed the herd with two twin baskets. They were believed a gift from the Gods themselves, given they resembled none of the herd, and were placed so carefully in the heart of the city of Edda.

Coming of Age Ceremony: Boop.

History: Eier was born and raised in the Code of Edda herd. She sticks close to her Valkr sisters that reside in the herds area. Her history is overshadowed by her sisters stories of past lives and far off adventures in other lands. This does not bother Eier though. She's content to have a quiet life, without much going on.

The Code
How dedicated is she to the laws? 100% dedicated.
How does she judge who is and who is not worthy of Valhalla? Due to her dream, and avoiding outsiders, she is not sure how she would judge them. A good heart would likely be something to turn her eye to someone worthy of Valhalla. She would likely never send someone evil. Eier is a gentle soul, and would be put off by someone harsh.
How does she kill? Eier has killed none yet. Not the strongest of her herd. Wounding a chosen with her spear first, she would then finish them off, with a sweet kiss from her sharp fox-like teeth to their throat.
How does she deal with the backlash? She doesn't cope well at all, and gets frustrated easily. She gets fiesty, and can snap at those who try to doubt her beliefs. She doesn't tell them how to live their life, they should offer her the same courtesy.
Is she tainted in any way? Not at all.

The Herd
Where does she live? In a cave slightly bigger than a fox hole! Only her and Skuld are of a size to enter through the entrance. It's located in the labyrinth, but not too far in.
What does she do? Eier is a budding herbalist and triage healer. The lack of a horn does not keep her from her love of healing the wounded. Her specialty is binding wounds. Edda was the very first healer in the herd, in her first life. Eier prides herself to model her heart after Edda's, and help those in need. If she was ever on a battle field, she would not differentiate who should and shouldn't be healed, but do her best to help all.
Skuld tried to get her involved in the military, but it didn't work out. The twins have many differences, and this was a big one that both came to accept.
She likes to play with the young, and often sneaks them into her cave to play or spend the night. If you have issues with a restless colt, Eier will soothe them and sing them a lullaby. As much as she doesn't want offspring of her own, she adores other soquili's young.
During the Equinox, and other festivals, she likes to show off her ability to sing.
How often does she travel and where does she go? Eier will only travel of asked to. Skuld asks her often, for the company, and Eier does not object. Or if the herd has need of her outside their small city, she will go where needed.
What does she do on her travels? Eier gets very anxious and nervous, but sucks it up to do her duty. She knows she has a job to do as a Valkyrie. When the day comes where her dream might come true, she will do her job diligently. If she had a vision of sending someone to Valhala that did not coincide with her dreams, she would probably be relieved, and carry the act out immediately. It might serve to relieve some of her tension. With age and wisdom, she will learn to cope with her fears.
How likely is she to bring friends or temporary lovers to visit and how long do they stay? Eier is a loner. She's not likely to bring anyone back to the herd, at all.
How closely does she follow the culture? If there are discrepancies, please describe them. She follows the culture, but sometimes, it seams as though her fears hold her back. Overtime, she'll be able to travel more, without depending on Skuld, so she can fulfill her role to Valhalla as a Valkyrie.

Children
What kind of breeding partner will she look for? She's not looking. In fact. In her dream, she falls in love, and then has sites of Valhalla when looking into his eyes. And then when she goes to send her love to Valhala, she fails, wounding him fatally with a non-bodily weapon. So she won't be flinging or breeding with anyone if she can. Love is a funny thing though, as is fate. If her dreams are truly from Valhalla, then they will happen no matter how hard she tries to avoid them.
What will she do if she cannot make it back to the herd in time to raise her children there? Teach them and raise them as she was raised, till she can return to her herd.
How committed is she to raising her children the valkyrian way? Very committed. It is the way she was raised, and the way she wants her young to be raised.
How does she help raise children? Eier is never far from the children in the herd, or the mothers that carry them. She likes to help when they are sick, or entertain the kids. While she's a good friend to those growing up in the herd, she also likes to bestow wisdom on them where she can, and teach them the things she has learned. Though she doesn't like to bore them. If they appear to be loosing interest, she tries to make them laugh to lighten the mood. If you ever ask anything of her with helping to raise the children, she will happily oblige.
How (un)likely is she to adopt? Heavily likely. No young should be left to fend for themselves! Though she would weigh out if the Valkyrie life would be right for them, before making such a decision.

THE SOQUILI
Name: Helki
User Image

Rank: Member
Age: Young Adult

Personality: Helki is intelligent, resourceful, compassionate, empathetic, adventurous, studious, clear-headed, charming, maternal, mature. She doesn't see herself as perfect or beautiful (so not narcissistic) just...average in appearance. Helki loves the thrill of flying. She's strong, despite being a healer, she can hold her own against an opponent.

How did she join? Adopted by the herd as a very young child, I would say shortly after emerging from her basket. Her memories do not expand before herd life with the Code of Edda.

Coming of Age Ceremony: Helki's trial was to track a severely wounded animal in the forest, assess it's injuries, and properly treat it so that it would heal and not die. Helki wasn't given any information on what animal it was and had to rely on her acquired knowledge of the healing arts. She wasn't allowed any tools, simulating a situation where she'd be without her tools.

Helki started her trial at a random part of the forest. She began taking note of her surroundings and using her senses to determine a possible course to go. It took some time but she found a blood trail and followed it to the injured animal. After calming the creature down, she was able to figure out the injury, a broken leg. She found two flat stones and herbs for healing. The herbs took some time to find, but Helki kept a level head and collected what she needed. Returning to the animals she made a poultice, cleaned the wound, reset the bones, and applied her poultice. She then found flat wood and vines to make a splint.

She then picked up the treated animal and carried it to the edge of the forest where she was greeted by the older Valkyries. Helki passed.

History: Helki was raised in the Code of Edda herd. It's all she's ever known despite not being born within the ranks. She has no idea who her parents may have been and doesn't really care. Her family is the herd. She learned much from the other valkyries and strives to be committed to the teachings she was raised with. After her coming of age and having bloomed into a young adult, Helki decided to actively travel. Her passion has been about healing those that had a chance of recovering and so she travels and assists those that need a healer. Despite being away from the herd so much, her heart and her locality always lies with the Code of Edda.

The Code
How dedicated is she to the laws? 100%
How does she judge who is and who is not worthy of Valhalla? Helki determines who is worthy of Valhalla by how they treat others (including themselves) and what they have done with their lives. Those that have been torn down by life but refuse to give up and become stronger are some of her favorites. But even then she is still picky on who she chooses.
How does she kill? Helki has mastered the ability to charm her intended head on. Having been blessed with antlers, sharp hooves, and elongated canines, Helki chose to use her canine teeth as her first go to bodily weapon. She's always sweet and interested in the intended, they relax while in her company, and once she is in a clear position, Helki will snake her head out and bite into a main artery in the throat. Helki never goes for an artery until she is 100% confident in her ability to hit the target on the first try. She remains patient and in control of the situation so that her intended doesn't realize why she is there. She stays with them for the entirety of their death.
How does she deal with the backlash? Helki does her best to get her intended alone and to avoid conflict. If she gets harassed by others for her kill, she keeps a clear head and tries to charm them but if it doesn't work she'll take off...quickly.
Is she tainted in any way? No.

The Herd
Where does she live? She predominantly lives away from the main herd, however, she does return and will reside in a cave.
What does she do? She loves expanding her knowledge on healing, anatomy, and botany. This has become a hobby of her's and she's more than happy to share her knowledge with others. Aside from that, she enjoys the thrill of flying.
How often does she travel and where does she go? She predominantly travels to expand her knowledge. She spent some time in one herd, The Khalasar, as the Head Healer, but has since left to continue her expanding her knowledge. She does return home, usual during festivals, but also when she needs a break. She also likes to update her collection of knowledge of healing and even the land and other soq that she keeps in her cave dwelling.
What does she do on her travels? So far, Helki has been only working on her knowledge. She does keep an eye out for those potential soq worthy of Valhalla. She would love to find someone worthy of breeding so that she can return home and add more children to her herd but she has yet to meet someone.
How likely is she to bring friends or temporary lovers to visit and how long do they stay? Despite her charming personality, Helki has turned into somewhat of a loner away from the herd. She prefers only those in the Code of Edda as companions so far. Because of this...she has yet to make friends or even acquire a lover or lovers. She has pondered this and would love to try and make a friend or find a lover....
How closely does she follow the culture? If there are discrepancies, please describe them. She follows them closely. She knows she was adopted into the herd and feels like she needs to make sure that they weren't wrong to do so. However, she'll eventually realize that she is truly a member of the Code of Edda despite her adoption.

Children
What kind of breeding partner will she look for? Predominantly flings. She'll select based on what traits they could pass to her offspring that would benefit the herd. Male or female, etc. She may avoid a lifemate or true love not being sure her heart could handle the situation. But mutual affection she can handle.
What will she do if she cannot make it back to the herd in time to raise her children there? She'll raise her children with the teachings of Edda and work on getting back to the herd so they can benefit from the teachings of the other Valkyries.
How committed is she to raising her children the valkyrian way? Helki is very committed to raising her children the valkyrian way, all of them. She feelings it's a blessing to be raised and taught the valkyrian way.
How does she help raise children? She would love to share her knowledge with the children who have a natural inclination and interest in healing. She would also love to just play with the children too.
How (un)likely is she to adopt? Helki is VERY likely to adopt as she was adopted herself and very happy she was.
