History, Traditions and Beliefs The Royauté Jardin (royal garden) herd was founded several generations prior to the time of Victoria's grandfather but there is no estimated date for when this happened. Victoria brought the herd back from the brink of destruction brought on by the weakening and eventual death of her grandfather. The herd itself has the belief that they are the caretakers and protectors of life around them, which is displayed in their intense desire to take care of the plant life surrounding the herd. Above all, the most important section of the herd lands is the grove that the sovereigns who first settled the land helped cultivate along with the help of two-leggers. While the two-leggers no longer reside nearby nor do they assist in herd matters, they are still highly praised. The herd believes in redemption for any soul, so long as it isn't a skinwalker, and will do whatever it takes to help another.
Generally, those who first join the herd or who are in need of a life change are assigned to tend the gardens. The sovereigns of the herd are responsible for leading so they place high importance on the abilities of potential heirs and therefore do not follow birth order, etc. when choosing the next sovereign. The herd doesn't have a set hierarchy after the Aîné roles and as mentioned above each members is just as important as the next.
Herd Hierarchy/Roles Souverain: Sovereign of the herd who is the prime leader of the herd. They can be either male or female but they generally are children of the previous sovereign. Any newcomers are brought before the sovereign. Any threats are dealt with by the sovereign. Épouse: The consort is the mate of the sovereign. They can co-lead the herd with the sovereign or do duties in sub-categories (listed below). Their word is held with the same weight as the sovereign and should the sovereign perish before an heir is chosen or the heir is not old enough to lead than they will rule in their stead. Dauphin/e: The chosen heir of the sovereign. They are generally chosen as young adults after they have proven themselves worthy and capable of ruling. While adopted children may lead the general custom is for them to be blood related. Conseillers: These are the advisers of the herd. There are generally between two and four advisers whom assist with making decisions for the herd. Any suggestions are always brought before the sovereign for final say--but small matters may be settled by them. Aîné These are the elders of the herd who also tend to be previous sovereigns. They are generally responsible for advising when needed and may do other tasks around the herd if necessary. It is not necessary for them to actually be on elder lines, however, maxed stats are ideal. They may also just be older soquili. Marquis/Margrave: These are the nobles of the herd which essentially means they are the children of the sovereign (current or past). They do not have to be blood related, meaning, adopted soquili may also be nobles. Chevalier: The knights of the herd are divided into two categories which is guards and scouts. They protect the herd from threats and may be required to scout the surrounding area. Guérisseurs: The healers of the herd who are also midwives when the need arises. Jardiniers: The gardeners of the herd; they have a very important job. Maintaining the flower that surround the herd and on occasion the small clearing which the sovereign and their family usually takes care of. Artistes: These are the craftsman of the herd. They are the one's who make items, garments, etc. whenever the need arises. Artisans: The entertainers of the herd. They dance and sing usually but they may preform other tasks. Membres: General members of the herd who don't fit into a specific role. Poulains: These are the foals of the herd. They have no real tasks other than to learn and grow. Familier: The familiars of the herd. They are able to assist with any of the tasks with those they have bonded with.
