Hunter's Strike

User Image

It was a quiet night in the Mwezi'Johari, a bright, nearly-full moon shone high in the sky and the rebels decided it was the perfect time to act. It started small, at first only one hunting group was convinced to stay home, but as the moon rose they were joined by more and more lions. Most were hunters, some were high class, all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

A handful of younger lions were gathered near the middle of the crowd, talking and laughing loudly amongst themselves. Anybody within earshot could easily tell that exaggerated stories and rumours of the King were the topic being discussed.

"I hear King Shangyue keeps us up at night because he's too ugly to show his face in daylight," said one male loudly.

"Who said that?" challenged another, not angry but clearly amused. So few of them would have ever had a good look at their king.

"It's true! Right, Umepatwa!" he replied, taking the easy way out and calling upon one illegitimate son of the king.

Shangyue`s dark doppelgänger opened his mouth to answer but he was cut off by another voice.

"Yeah! Just look at Umepatwa!"

There was a pause as the statement sunk in and then another loud burst of laughter as the poor incidental target of their mockery put on an indignant face. There was no denying who his father was or that their was a strong resemblance between them. Unfortunately for Umepatwa, his share of the available genes placed him clearly in the royal family.

"No, it's because he won't face us all in daylight," Ume countered as the laughter died down, holding his head high, "He's a coward who hides in the dark, thinking the Great Lion is on his side and that's all that matters."

"He must be pretty stupid," the first theorist replied with a scoff.

"Yeah, lions can see in the dark."

Notes

  • This strike is being held primarily by hunters (of all classes) in protest of Shangyue's rule. Any hunt leaders present are either supportive or overruled by the sheer number of hunters refusing to work (and the members of the High Class who are among them).
  • Guards may happen by while on patrol or have been invited by friends and family who are hunters.
  • No Royal Guards have received advance warning of this, though they may happen upon the meeting.

  • All participants have been asked not to engage in any violent confrontation. It may become unavoidable if they are discovered by loyalists who are either numerous or foolish enough to try to tackle the large group, but causing a stir is actually not the goal of the strike. The rebels are hoping to gain support, and to give everybody an opportunity to bond and enjoy some fun- something that has been in short supply since Shangyue's violent takeover and his paranoid rule began.

  • Atmosphere: Cheerful, fun.
  • Activities: Mingle, gossip, games!

  • High Class Hunters in Attendance: Neema (Ecavi), Umepatwa (Ecavi).
  • Other High Class Members in Attendance: Chiba (Lady, Ecavi), Uchanjaa (Guard, mouselet).
  • Hunt Leaders in Attendance: Iki'renkli (Middle Class, mouselet)
  • These lists will be updated as relevant characters are posted! Only those there to support the cause will be listed.

  • Noteworthy Members in Attendance: Antara (nessiaing), Kamia (Ecavi), Kimondo (Ecavi), Nketa (mouselet), Nyeusi (mouselet), Ota (Ecavi), Uchanjaa (mouselet), Umepatwa (Ecavi).

  • Members listed may not be actively posted but they will reply if actively sought in the RP (especially those played by Ecavi).

Umepatwa's Youth Rebellion

User Image

Umepatwa is one of King Shangyue's illegitimate sons by noted rebel, Kamia. He was raised a rebel and has never been interested in (or any good at) hiding his disgust and hatred for his father. After a rather public argument, he decided to take things into his own paws and get this going.

The strike was the idea of the young crew, but it was supported by all the rebels.

Youth Rebellion Philosophy

Anybody born after Shangyue took the throne, or who has never known any other monarch in the pride may join them. They fight not for some offense they have no memory or experience of, not for revenge of any past leader they didn't know.. they fight with the hope that the pride can be better than Shangyue has made it, that he is not the kind of the king the Great Lion wanted for them.

They refuse to wait, once their numbers required more than one paw to count on your toes, they were ready to get started. They function independently of the rebellion led by Ota & Kamia and Meshach, it is a calculated decision on their parts to cooperate and build on the momentum from the younger generation.

They avoid association with Nyeusi and her band of 'rebels,' though they have clearly been influenced by her ravings about the Great Lion turning on them while Shangyue reigns.

Umepatwa is their leader, and his ultimate goal is to kill Shangyue himself. While not all members have to agree on this, they would all be aware of their leader's intention.

Youth Rebellion Members

These characters are all members of the Umepatwa's group of rebels. They will be given out via raffle throughout the month. Anybody may enter and you may only win once!

If you win, these characters should be active in the remaining parts of the metaplot and may not opt out of the possibility for being killed. That said, none are absolutely destined to die. The personalities provided should act as a starting point for any character development, they don't need to maintain the same thoughts and opinions that they started with tonight!

Tamaa (Hope, Swahili) - Umepatwa's best friend, another hunter in the High Class. The two regularly hunt in the same group. He never really had a strong opinion of the monarchy until he met Umepatwa, and now that he's part of the rebellion, his hopes for what happens when they succeed are getting a little too high.

Isibongo (Praise, Zulu) - A friend of Umepatwa and Tamaa, he is a member of the Middle Class. Though technically a hunter, the truth is that Isibongo has only ever participated in 1-2 hunts and manages to avoid the tiresome process altogether by claiming to be part of another hunting group. He's worried his secret will be discovered in such a crowd, but he's set that aside to be here!

Anaishi (She Remains, Swahili) - A friend of practically everybody, Anaishi is an out-going and friendly lioness from the Upper-middle Class that is hard not to notice. She's a huntress that favours the same group and Ume and Tamaa, but she is notoriously bad at hunting. She did try being a guard first and that was even worse.

How to Join

Post an eligible character in this RP and please quote Ecavi so I don't miss it. You may decide for yourself if they were previously recruited or if they are being recruited during this RP. Talk to Umepatwa directly about it, if you wish!

Current Known Members: Umepatwa (Ecavi), Tamaa (Excited Apathy), Isibongo (Painted Moose), Anaishi (Velveteen Angel)
Recruiting in ORP: Fasbesa (I Lady Kiya I)

Raffle

How this Works

Each Sunday, one of the above listed characters will be raffled away. The winner will choose the character they wish to claim.

Every RP post since the last raffle (or the start of this ORP, for the first week only) counts as a ticket. Unfortunately, this means this raffle is primarily for people with existing members of the pride. Another character is being raffled to everybody.

Rolling will be done sometime overnight Sunday, ticket cut-off will be the rolls and anything afterward will count for the next week.

Raffle 1 - March 6, 2016 - Winner: Velveteen Angel, claimed Anaishi.
Raffle 2 - March 13, 2016 - Winner: Excited Apathy, claimed Tamaa
Raffle 3 - March 27, 2016 - Winner: Painted Moose, won Isibongo

The Reluctant Participant

User Image
Colored by Safaia

Mti is a hunter in the Middle Class, and to be quite honest he's never cared all that much about what's been going on in the pride nowadays. He believes the royal family is tedious and dramatic.. and that that doesn't really affect him much so he doesn't give a damn. He has nothing to hide so why should the presence of Royal Guards bother him?

He is an accidental participant in the Hunter's Strike tonight. He was simply on his way to do his job when everybody else just up and refused to do it. Now they're all goofing off and there's no use trying to stop it, so he's stuck right where he is.

Raffle

How this Works

Anybody may enter for Mti, simply post in this thread asking for a ticket (use parentheses, please, to avoid confusion for the IC goings-on). In your post, please quote Ecavi.

If you have no current members of the Mwezi'Johari, you get a second ticket. Please indicate in your post if you are a newbie to the pride!

You may only win one character in this event, if you win one of the rebels, you cannot win Mti.

Unlike the rebels, Mti has no obligation to continue participating in the rebellion. It will be up to his player if he keeps his head down for the rest of the event or if he gets involved (willingly or not).

This will be rolled on March 20, 2016.

Batu had heard that the protest was going to happen before it started and he had made a point of not being on guard duty that night. No he didn't want to be out at the boarder he wanted to be in the centre of the pride being able to see what he had helped happen, he smiled warmly thinking of how happy Meshach would be to see this. He wondered for a moment if it would be possible for him to slip into the pride while it was so bustling during the protest. He moved through the crowd enjoying himself, laughing and joking with all the others. He kept his eyes peeled for any trouble but for the most part he was just here for a good time.As he moved along the crowd he spotted Ota, the female who also knew Meshach, he knew that she would be here doing his work as well. He gave her a polite nod before working his way further along into the crowd

Boinedal couldn't believe it the gathering seemed to be growing in numbers by the moment. He was pleased that his hunting group had given him a heads up about the protest, he would have felt like a chump if he had gone out to hunt while everyone else was here having fun. A little twinge in his stomach made him realize he wished Yue'shi was here to see this. He thought for sure that she would love it but he suspected she would be way to nervous to ever sneak into the pride. Still he wished she could be here to see this. From the little she told him he was pretty sure she didn't get to see many others.

Antara stood at the edge of the gathering her mouth hanging open a little. She couldn't believe how much her little brother had managed to do. She felt a twinge of pride course through her. She wanted so badly to join in the party but she felt like her presence would likely be unwelcome. She had spent most of her time on her own, never able to make many friends. With one exception Maja. Her heart gave a little flutter at the thought of the male she had met on a whim. He was blind so for once someone didn't know who she was as soon as they saw her, she was able to be herself. Unable to walk away from the activity but equally unable to join it she decided to stay on the edge and hover for a little while.

Ota was in an fantastic mood, she had such high hopes for the night. Her eyes wandered the crowd, searching for her own children but always settling back on Umepatwa and his rowdy group of friends. At her side, Kamia was watching him most intently. She was worried for him, but she also was glad he seemed so happy.. it allowed her to push the fact he was motivated by vengeance out of her mind. They both saw Batu walk past, and Ota returned his nod with a small smile. Kamia had not met him but she knew of him, and immediately she recognized who he must be.

Neither noticed that Antara was staying near the edge of the group.

Neema, on the other hand, spotted Antara as soon as she appeared. While she did not frequently visit Lailah, especially while she was occupied with her work and her apprentices, Neema made a point of keeping track of what went on with her blue twin.. especially since the pride's leadership was ever on the verge of causing chaos, and then especially again after their mother boldly left them to deal with it to spare her own life.

More than just a mildly protective twin, Neema was a huntress and a proud participant of the strike-- even if her plan was to be among the less vocal until a high class voice was needed. So she saw no harm in wandering around to greet the young lady.

"Good evening, princess," she greeted Antara with a kind smile, giving her a friendly nudge on the shoulder, "Does your father know you've sneaked off to a party?"

Quoting you for the youth rebellion and (I would like a ticket for Mti as WELL)

Gwaihir used to be a hunter

User ImageOf course word of mouth would hit his ears. He used to be a hunter and knew many of them well, and plenty of his siblings were hunters so he was of course well aware of what was transpiring. Either way he was still going to go about his usual route and then make his way over towards where everyone was holding their strike. Regardless of his views on either side he still had a job to do and he made a quick inspection of areas he knew should be checked frequently ad then made his way towards the gathering horde.

As he approached he didn't exactly recognize too many faces, though he was sure some of his family may show up. He recognized one of Shangyue's sons as he had been a member of the pride for a while and had been there while He had taken reign. There were many emotions he felt about the whole situation but he hadn't found anyone that he felt comfortable enough to talk to about it. He needed to talk to his sister, or even one of his brothers. They were always going to be accepting of his views. His gaze scanned the area and he stuck towards the edge of the crowd, searching for someone he knew.

"Of course King Shangyue is a coward!" a loud voice called out as a dark lioness approached the gathering. "He knows that the Great Lion has turned his back on him!" A wide grin was spread across Nyeusi's face as the lioness widely rumored to be insane wandered into the strike. As usual, her fur was mussed, her eyes were wide, and the vertebrae she wore on toes and tail clacked together as she moved. It wasn't entirely surprising to see her here as she was, indeed, a Huntress, even if her wardrobe was somewhat...bizarre. Many pridemembers commonly thought the only reason Nyeusi was still alive tonight was because her insanity made her less of a threat to the King.

"That's why we need to get rid of him! So that the Great Lion's blessing will return to the pride!" The lioness looked around excitedly to see who agreed with her statement.

User Image
The older lion drifted quietly over to the edge of the gathering as he surveyed the lions present. He'd had, when he heard about this strike, some hope for Umepatwa and the young lion's willingness to butt heads with the system. However, the strike thus far looked to be a group of lions complaining about the Way Things Were. Except for Nyeusi, of course, but no one really counted the crazy lioness for much.

It was worth noting that Antara was present. Shangyue's b*****d-born eldest, and one of Lailah's apprentices. Well, it might not be that surprising given that it was her brother organizing the strike. It could be that she was here to support him. It could be that there were other reasons for her presence. As Neema addressed the girl, Uchanjaa maneuvered himself into a better spot so that he could hear the response.

Iki was glad that she'd found out about this gathering before it had begun. She wondered idly, looking over the lions present, what would happened if she'd tried such a thing when she was younger. Things probably would have gone one of two ways, the Hunt Leader decided. Either she'd have been passed over like her older sister Nyeusi over there, or she'd have been killed for sedition and her grandfather.

Who was...what was he doing here!? Great Lion knew Uchanjaa was no Hunter, and that even now the King kept a stern eye on him. Was he trying to get them all killed? Iki's cerulean eyes narrowed as she contemplated what to do about the large brown problem that was her grandfather.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 06, 2016 6:13 pm
Batu moved through the gathering smiling to many friendly faces but not finding anyone in particular he wanted to chat with He finally settled somewhere in the middle of the gathering. He wasn't sure if others would approach him or not, it was possible some would not trust him. On the other hand he had recruit a few of them. Laughing at the jokes the others were telling he made himself comfortable to enjoy the party.

Boinedal gave his head a shake, this really was an amazing sight to see, and one he felt Yue had to see. She needed to know that there was this much of a resistance within the pride. He slipped away from the group heading towards the boarder the area he always met his friend. He hoped that she would be there tonight and that he would be able to convince her to come back.
Painted Moose

Antara jumped a little when someone came up beside her. She gave Neema a warm smile. She had never really talked to the lioness before but she knew enough that she was not a threat. "Ah my father." she said her voice cold and detached, she never felt comfortable enough to speak out publicly about her father but that certainly didn't mean she would say anything nice about him either. "He pays even less attention to me now that he has a royal litter. I think I am safe." she said with a sigh. Even though she wasn't close to her father she felt like many in the pride saw her as a threat and therefore never wanted her around.

The guard had been hearing about the hunter's strike from passing lions throughout the evening and decided to make his way over. He was hearing some pretty radical speech from some of the lions, but he couldn't say he was really surprised. There had been similar things whispered in the pride for a while. The hunters strike had a light-hearted feel to it, but it stemmed from the deeper problems of the pride. The black guard was shirking his duties, too, to check everything out. He secretly hoped that the rebellion would accomplish a lot of good for the pride, but it was hard to say. He didn't want to be caught up in it if it failed. Chunyue was afraid of punishment. He sat near the edge of the gathering, his ears keenly listening.

As a rule, Umepatwa liked to ignore Nyeusi and her crazy rambling-- and it might have been just as important tonight, considering the danger of letting their supporters think all of the rebels were just as crazy-- but she was speaking quite plainly and, more importantly, agreeing with them. That was good enough for tonight!

"Sometimes, Nyeusi, you actually do make sense!" he called out to her with a grin. He was one of the lucky ones who knew what exactly Nyeusi raved about, it was good help her be heard when she made sense.

Nyeusi joining into the loudest conversation drew the attention of Ota and Kamia, and they exchanged a glance. Both had always been concerned for her safety and it seemed the Great Lion watched over her, for she was still here. Her methods seemed to keep her safe up to this point, but as she was joined by others, it might put undue attention directly back on her. Ota sighed, watching Nyesi, and Kamia smiled and nudged her.

"It'll be OK, she's not alone anymore," Kamia said.

"She hasn't been for a long time."

"No, but now she has much of the pride on her side," Kamia added with a smile, "Even you agreed that Vesper was fine to stay out on patrol tonight instead of helping her tonight."

It had been a discussion, but Vesper's watchfulness had slowly been waning as the pride's voice began to grow and join her. It had to happen eventually, tonight was the best night.

Fasbesa made his presence. More curious than anything else, though he too, was hopeful for something better. He couldn't help but notice many of his relatives. He had stumbled upon this by chance, really. What could he say, curiosity killed the cat? He moved towards the closest lion in hopes for answers of some sort. "What's going on?"

He wasn't sure if he was to get an answer right off the paw, but he was hopeful. Things were sparking his interest, and he felt it was something he should witness. Of course, he never was one to make good judgements, but who knows, right?

Majaliwa wasn't really entirely sure where he was. He had heard loud voices while on his usual routine, and had wandered towards them. It seemed like a fun time! He didn't want to neglect his duties though. He was still getting used to the pride, and it was all rather odd to him at the moment, but he was liking it. He had made one friend, and that was all, but hey, one friend was better than none.

He was careful to navigate the crowd, slightly worried he was going to run into someone and irritate them. The blind lion was not good at crowds.

Iaeratu was well into the group, slowly moving through the crowd cautiously and examining the words they were all spouting. She was not, necessarily, against the king but he reminded her too much of a former ruler that had tormented her and her former pride. It left a bitter taste in her mouth and so she was intrigued by this gathering.

Her eyes scanned those in attendance. Though new to the pride, she was surprised to see the crowd who had gathered in defiance of the king.

Chunyue glanced over at the newest lion to walk over. It was a lion he was familiar with, as they were both guards, but didn't know. Chunyue scooted over towards him and nodded at the congregation.

"Rebels trying to gather support." The black lion shrugged.

"Seems cheerful enough, but..." The lion shuddered, knowing what it could mean for his pride."

User Image The royal guard had been one of the last to get word about the strike. He stayed a little bit of a ways away, aghast at the happenings and the rebels. Unbelievable! How ungrateful! He had been raised up from a slave to Royal Guard by the Great Shangyue. The Great Lion had turned his back on Lunik when he was born, but the light of the King's kindness and mercy shone down upon him in its stead.

Lunik shook his head and leered at the rebels, but he stayed silent. His pendant that signified his rank spoke for him. Also, he was still a bit of a coward and hated confrontation.

The young lion who looked far too much like Shangyue for his own good was agreeing with her. He did seem to be one of the lions in charge of this whole shindig, so naturally Nyeusi made her way over to him.

"You've heard the Word, haven't you?" she demanded. "Time's running out, and if King Shangyue isn't removed, the Great Lion may close His Eye upon us for good!" She certainly didn't want that, and if this boy knew what was good for him and the pride, he'd help fix things.

User Image
Uchanjaa was listening to Antara's bitter remark about her father's preoccupation with his right-born heirs when something odd caught his eye. Two older lionesses, one of them Umepatwa's mother, were standing together, talking quietly. True, it would make sense for the young Hunter's mother to support him, but there was something covert about the pair.

The Guard had to wonder what they knew, and began to move towards them. He didn't think they were spies for Shangyue - if anyone was, it'd be Chunyue, and more because the young idiot's mother would have it out of him than because he meant to tell. But he couldn't quite place a paw on why Ota and Kamia were here.

User Image
When Uchanjaa began moving again, Iki had hoped he'd be leaving, having satisfied his curiosity. Sadly, that didn't seem to be the case. And then, of course, there was her sister, being the crazy idiot the pride had come to know. Someone had once told the Hunt Leader that Nyeusi had been a perfectly normal lioness before. Iki doubted it. Insanity didn't come from nowhere after all.

What was worth noting was the number of non-Hunters present. How had word spread so far...and who was responsible?

Antara wasn't sure how it happened but as if someone had whispered in her ear she happened to turn at the exact time that Maja came and joined the group. She swallowed hard seeing the male that she had been lying to this whole time. She had stumbled upon him accidentally and upon learning that he was blind had decided to tell him that she was her sister, the twin that had been left safely outside the pride. With him she was able to be exactly who she wanted to be, absolutely of no importance. She grew a little antsy she didn't know if she should go to Maja and explain everything, or if she should just avoid him, as long as he didn't hear her voice he would never know she was here, everyone else would be calling her Antara, an name he didn't know.
