Moon Ceremony - The Final Night of the Festival

The Moon Ceremony is a time of reflection. It is a way to mourn those who have died in the past year, but also remember the ancestors of those that helped lead them to the lands the Ela'wadiyi now call home.

With the influx of rogue-blood, Skan Kanati also encourages those members to reflect on their past and send good wishes to their families they left behind.

The pride gathers within the stones that develop the Stargrove, though other members may linger near the small river that feeds into the Stargrove. Only those who wish to participate are encouraged to show up, as it can be a heavy memorial, and many of the cubs cannot stay awake for the entire time.

ORP Prompts

This is an unstructured ORP meant to give all the clans one last chance to mingle before they go their separate ways. Since this is extremely open-ended, this year we are providing some potential topics of conversation!

Observations on the State of the Pride

There don't seem to be any cubs in attendance this year! There are rarely a lot of them but none at all is even less common. It's made the festival very quiet this year, and the Cloud Ceremony was a complete bust (OOC note: not run this year for lack of cubs).

Clan Gossip

The Earth Clan has gotten a new alu'nadi in the last year, Tiponi Ayatadoli (Andranis). She's very young, even beating out the young alu'nadi and nvwati pair from the Wolf Clan! Chepi Kidudushi, her predecessor, was young when she took over too, but she was old blood and supported by her father, the nvwati and only surviving member of the old Earth Clan. The appointment is certainly well-accepted by the clan, but is still quite the popular topic this year!

The Wolf Clan and their young leaders, Ukahada Waya (Ecavi) and Tsine`rehsa Waya (Talencia) still can't seem to stay out of trouble. At least this year they did their mountain neighbours a kindness and accepted in refugees from the Jini-msemi when a landslide destroyed their home.. but it's not helping their reputation as troublemakers!

Ukahada Waya, the Wolf Clan's nvwati, has been acting strangely during the festival, too.

Something is going on with the Sky Clan, though nobody can really figure out what that is. There's a tension within the clan that is apparent despite the members coping and doing their very best to behave as normal. It's been three years since the clans were evaluated and the Sky Clan is the only one that's failed to name a nvwati. There are no cubs but, as far as anybody can tell, they haven't even considered other options. The Galu'nadi family, the only surviving old Sky Clan blood, is not successfully reassuring anybody.

More gossip may come before the end of the Festival!

If Clan Leaders have anything to add, PM Ecavi!

Sky Clan Contest

Sky Clan's new alu'nadi, colored by Safaia.

This year, by the end of the Festival, the Sky Clan is getting a new alu'nadi. After all the other clans leave, the Bird and Sky Clans will remain at the Stargrove to sort out the situation. Their new alu'nadi is a former rogue who was chosen by popular vote from the clan and approved by the wanidatsi.

How she won over the clan and what she is like will be determined by the winner, with some guidance from Safaia & Ecavi as desired!

Prize

In addition to the lovely lioness pictured above, the winner will be given ownership of the Sky Clan. It will be up to them to appoint a new nvwati for the clan, who will be trained with the help of Skan Kanati after they've been given time to settle into a routine with their alu'nadi.

Also.. starting next year, we are going to be encouraging Clan Owners to take a more active roll in pride maintenance. Just like the Wolf Clan ran a mini-event helping Jini-msemi refugees, we want Clan Owners to feel welcome to run their own little plots.

This will, ideally, help the pride as a whole reach the metaplot requirements and make things more interesting. The clan structure makes it difficult to run a pride-wide metaplot that isn't during the festival, and it makes sense that the clans would have their own problems, drama, events, etc to deal with throughout the year!

Clan owners will be welcome to come up with their own plot ideas and run their own events. We will provide freebies to give away and any help required along the way. We can even discuss ideas that may affect the pride's overall structure and rules! Bear in mind that there are some changes that can only happen slowly, but don't let the current culture slow you down that much. Games and tournaments within a clan would require minimal input from Safaia and Ecavi, while dangerous and/or culturally significant situations will require discussion and approval.. but don't be shy! We'd love to help!

Rules

Anybody may enter but active existing members of the SoA community will almost certainly be given more weight.

Please make sure you are familiar with the Ela'wadiyi, their customs and beliefs.

You may only submit one form and you may not make any changes upon submission. Entries are to be PMed to the mule.

This contest ends with the Festival!

The Form

PM Elawadiyi the following form with the subject Sky Clan alu'nadi:

Name:
Meaning:

Why does this lioness accept the role of alu'nadi?

(Not RP format, simply give some thought to the kind of character she is)

Sky Clan metaplot ideas

(If you were in charge of the Sky Clan, what kind of event would you run for them? What excitement would you like to bring to the Ela'wadiyi?

Keep in mind that getting a new alu'nadi is a great starting point clan activity/drama/whatever!)

Ustalanali Ligaiisei was definitely not the type of lion to enjoy this kind of quiet, solemn ceremony.. so he was amongst those participating enthusiastically in the gossip of the day, doing a better job than anybody who knew him would expect at keeping his voice down as he wandered from group to group along the stream by the Stargrove.

So far, nobody was especially interested in chatting with him.. but there were still plenty of lions to pester. When he spotted a pale but familiar lion on his own by the river, he marched on up.

"Dhatri!" he said in a hushed shout of greeting.

Unlike Ustalanali, Gadane Dhatri was pretty much exactly the type of lion who enjoyed the Moon Ceremony. He wasn't always so quiet and solemn but he could appreciate when it was. Thankfully, he did not have a lot of sadness to reflect upon this year, but it was a pleasant way to end the Festival. A nice, quiet gathering before splitting up again for the year.

He had overheard some of the gossip going around and, while he felt bad a few other clans seemed to have some serious problems, he was glad the Earth Clan's changes were significantly less.. interesting. Personally, he was among those who fully supported Tiponi and the Ayatadoli family.

He flinched when he heard someone call his name, and glanced over to see a vaguely familiar lion. He couldn't remember his name but his only married brother had married into this lion's family.

"Hello," he answered quietly.

"Why are you all on your own over here, Dhatri?" Ustalanali asked brightly, his voice rising slowly towards a normal, conversational level, forgetting the necessary respect for the others around them.

"Reflecting," Gadane answered simply, offering a small smile and struggling to recall the name of the calico chatterbox across from him. It was a strange name and it was on the tip of his tongue but he simply couldn't recall.

"Oh, right," Ustalanali paused, barely giving Gadane time for a tired mental count to three before resuming, "You guys have a new alu'nadi, right?"

It was the most boring of gossip options, the trouble-making duo leading the Wolf Clan and the steady decline of the Sky Clan were more interesting.. but also more sensitive. The Shadow Clan native guessed that was why it was an Earth Clan lion he had been able to isolate and chat with and not someone from one of those clans.

"There's a lot of young blood in the leadership now, eh?" he added.

Gadane nodded slowly but smiled.

"Tiponi Ayatadoli is doing a fine job," he offered, "It was a peaceful transition that has done nothing but good for the clan."

Ustalanali nodded hesitantly, deciding it would be rude to remark on the quality of this information as gossip. It was probably for the better that it was not a dramatic issue for the Earth Clan.

"She's the first leader younger than us," Ustalanali observed, "Does that mean we're getting old?"

"Yes," Gadane answered in a deadpan that lasted only seconds before he chuckled. Ustalanali snorted back a laugh of his own, shaking his head.

"We're not very old, really," he said, "It's gotta be even weirder for our parents, and all the older lions around here."

"It may keep happening and then we'll get to find out exactly how they feel," Gadane shrugged, "Though I guess that's not ideal. Your clan has been the most stable, maybe we should actually be gossiping about the Subianis and whatever keeps them going."

"That would be significantly less interesting, even than the chatter about your alu'nadi," Ustalanali said firmly, shaking his head, "I don't think they have a secret, they just.. do it. And most of the clans have at least one long-time leader."

"Not Wolf," Gadane answered, looking off across the river to some of the other lions around, "And Sky.. I wonder how long they'll be able to carry on the way they are."

The red and brown lion grinned, happy to get onto a more interesting topic- even if it wasn't with an insider. It was probably better this way, he didn't have to be quite so careful. Finally, he let himself take a seat.

"They seem OK from the outside," he said, "They kicked a** in the Sky Ceremony this year, everybody looks and acts like everything is fine."

"Everything might be fine while they're here," Gadane said, frowning, "It's a pretty small clan and there haven't been many cubs anywhere lately, but they just have the alu'nadi and she's so old."

Ustalanali nodded.

"Adi'sa is older," Gadane continued, "But he's got Tiponi to help him."

Ustalanali kept nodded, then raised a brow at the realization of just how strange it was that the Earth Clan got a new alu'nadi when their nvwati was ancient. Shouldn't they be looking at replacing him? Or.. preparing to replace him.

"I dunno," Gadane said, shrugging while Ustalanali was distracted, realizing he was mostly talking to himself, "I can't say much, I guess. I'm just a hunter, and I'm glad I'm just a hunter."

"Agreed."

Ustalanali tuned back in long enough to hear Gadane's appreciation of his position, and while all of this gossip was interesting enough.. he was very glad, too. None of it was directly his problem.

"Has Kaneonuskatew been doing well in the Shadow Clan?" Gadane asked, suddenly changing the topic, "I didn't get a chance to track him down this year." His parents almost certainly did, of course, but hearing from Kane was one thing, hearing from an observer was another.

"He and Amitola seem happy," Ustalanali answered with another shrug.

Amitola. Amitola Ligaiisei. That was the name of Kaneonuskatew's mate. Finally, Gadane could remember this acquaintance's surname. He wouldn't learn his first name without asking but since he had been calling him Dhatri, he couldn't imagine being called Ligaiisei would offend him.

"That's good."

Ustalanali could feel the conversation dying and pushed himself right back up to his feet. It wasn't his style to stick around when things got boring, not at an event like this, and he was more likely to be imposing or causing awkward silences if he stuck it out.. so he was all too happy to break away when needed.

"Well, it was nice chatting with you, Dhatri," he said.

"You too, Ligaiisei," Gadane answered with a smile.

Ustalanali gave a farewell nod and went off in search of someone else to pester. Gadane breathed a sigh of relief and hoped that was the only awkward conversation he would have to endure tonight.
