(not quite complete yet, but I'm open to suggestions/edits!)

Name: Rirru
Age: 24
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: N/A
Physical Description: Rirru is a fairly average-looking human; 5'5", 130lbs, with a bit of curve to her athletic frame. She has shoulder-length flame-orange hair (as everyone in her family does) that she usually wears in a tight ponytail, and bright, clear green eyes. Most of her fair skin is covered in freckles. She doesn't put much stock in her physical appearance or clothing, instead opting for the easiest or hardiest clothes, but she wears a simple necklace at all times; one of her dragon Sigrith's baby teeth, tied with a cord of leather. She is also known to wear her mother's wedding ring occasionally.
Personality:
+ / - STUBBORN
Rirru is remarkably stubborn. This comes in handy when it comes to completing tasks or getting the job done; she will not back down and she will not quit, regardless of what other people are telling her. However, she also does not know when to quit, and that has put herself and her dragon in danger more than once. Sigrith usually compensates for this and puts her back in her place, but she is not always happy to listen.
+ RESOURCEFUL
Growing up in one of the poorer homes and then being on her own for so many years, Rirru has grown used to making something out of nothing. She is an intelligent scavenger and can find use for almost anything. She is a very conservative person when it comes to wasting or throwing away the things she has, and is more likely to reuse or repurpose an item over getting rid of it.
+ / - HARD
Due to her upbringing and her life as a child, Rirru is a fairly hardened person. She is not quick to show her emotions and rarely ever lets them get the best of her, which is a positive to her. However, it sometimes makes her come off as cold and indifferent, and there have been plenty of times when that comes as a disadvantage. She can also be harsh or cruel towards others without really trying; once she realizes she's offended or hurt someone, she usually apologizes because she didn't mean it. But when she does mean it, it's quick and bites hard.
+ CARING
Rirru cares about nothing more in the world than her dragon, Sigrith. He's all she's had since the Impression when he was a fresh hatchling. She takes care of all of his wants and needs herself, and would go to the ends of the earth for him, if he asked.
+ LOYAL
Rirru knows that without loyalty, no relationship (whether human or dragon) is worth it. She is not quick or easy to trust other people, but when she does, she is loyal to a fault, even if it means she's on the wrong side of an argument. Her loyalty to Sigrith always comes first.
History: Both of Rirru's parents died when she was very young, leaving her an orphan with no siblings or family to take her in. She hopped around from family to family, sleeping on the floor or in a barn until her fourteenth birthday, when she left to try to Impress. She waited for seven years, entirely on her own, before Sigrith Impressed to her; ever since then, she's devoted her life to him. (to be more fleshed out soon)
Other: Please be honest with me about my character and dragon! I definitely want to do this right. c:

DRAGON
Name: Sigrith
Age: 3 years
Color: Brown
Size: 38'
Physical Description: Sigrith is a big boy, with a big personality to match. He is incredibly lithe and graceful for his size, and enjoys turning on a dime to catch Rirru off-guard when he realizes she's not paying attention.
Personality: Sigrith is just like his human; stubborn, yet loyal. But he is also very forgiving of Rirru's hardness, and has a sense of humor about it; when she gets too serious, or too angry, he does his best to cheer her up or make her laugh. Sometimes it doesn't work as well as he'd hope, but he tries his best in all that he does, especially for her. He is kind and well-mannered around other dragons and humans, though he can get annoying and excited around feeding time. (to be more fleshed out soon)

Moire Frost

Hey Moire!

So here's a few suggestions/critiques to help round out your character. This is a good start, but need a little more information. Where was she living when her parents died? Was she born to some Hold (Major, minor, or cotthold) or was she a Weyrbrat? If she was born in a Hold, then she either could have been fostered -- and maybe ran away later by choice. Or, if it was a more poor Hold, or a more neglectful/corrupt Hold, she may very well have been neglected and ignored as you wished. Most Hold's on Pern (and even the Weyrs) tend to have large foster systems, but these are not always perfect, and there are definitely a lot of children that fall between the cracks and wind up on their own. Either way, it would be good to know where exactly she started life from.

Additionally, was she considered ore of a drudge? What did she do to get marks (money), especially as she aged? Did she steal? Did she beg? Did she learn any sort of craft or skill as she aged, or was she simply treated as a drudge and did menial tasks for food and shelter? Whether she stayed in the Hold or left on her own she'd still need marks. Apprenticeships are common, but if she never had the opportunity or calling, she'd likely need to turn to alternative methods.

Last but not least, if she wasn't born and raised in the Weyr, then she'd have to be Searched before she could stand for Impression. Only those who live in the Weyr are allowed to claim their right to stand, and don't need an official Search. gaia_star Being Searched is a pretty big deal, as the majority of the population is never considered. What it entails is a dragon deciding that your character has the right feel to them, and that they think they'd make a good Candidate. The rider then usually approaches the potential Candidate and offers to take them back to the Weyr to try.

Given her life of neglect, it sounds like going to the Weyr might be a shock. How did she feel as a Candidate or how did life in the Weyr treat her? At the Weyr she'd be guaranteed three meals a day, a bed, and would be trained in all sorts of subjects to prepare her for possible Impression. The Weyr also supports its Candidates and they all live in shared Barracks, so she would be far from alone at that point. Furthermore, after so manyturns of failing to Impress, did that affect her at all? Did she grow hopeless? Did she begin to fear the rejection that comes with failing to Impress after so long?

Last but not least,Thread has recently fallen. (About 7-8 months ago in Pern time/RLtime.) It was pretty devastating, and Western Weyr is now scrambling to try to prepare for its weekly threadfalls. How has Rirru and Sigrith managed? Are they eager to learn how to fight? Have they gotten Threadscored yet? Are they afraid of Thread and possible death? Has she lost any friends since that first Fall (i.e. possible fellow riders or weyrfolk)? The first fall was such a devastating event, the losses were quite tangible.

Anyway, I hope this helps!
