EARLY CHILDHOOD Wally was born to parents that honestly should never have been parents. His parents spent nearly any money they had for drugs barely having enough to feed themselves or the child they brought into the world. What little they did with their son was to use Wally to get their fix. What cop would search a kid for drugs? Being too young to understand what he was doing, he tried to do what he was told and be a good boy. He would hide things when his parents asked him too. Sometimes he was even asked to go get a bag from some house to bring him but was told not to look in the bag. As he got older he learned why his parents acted differently all the time. It had to be the drugs he would find by them when they were passed out. He even tried asking them to stop doing drugs as he didn’t like it when they were like that. However, he asked at the wrong time. Right when they had gone longer than normal without any kind of fix. Wally knew the bruises would heal his innocence and trust would not. He hardly even noticed that his parents were arguing over the mysterious disappearance of their drugs caused by his magic.
He had always thought He had been picking up food or something important. But one day he decided to look in the bag. What would his parents do? Hit him again? As he feared it was more drugs. He was part of their problem. He regretfully took the bag to them as he normally did. Soon after, he started to notice there would be times there wouldn't be anything to eat at home. He had been used to stealing lunches from lockers to have dinner when he got home during these times but there was hardly anything at all, all the time now.
Suddenly his parents told him there was a very special pick up this time. After getting hit for mouthing off by asking what was so special about this bag he was set off to a new location. He got suspicious when the bag he normally got wasn't there. Wally then got picked up by the local drug guy who said something about his parents finally paying off their bill. Did they seriously sell him to cover their damn drug bill?! Wally freed himself by biting hard in the guy's arm and running as fast as he could. Being small gave him an advantage and he evaded his pursuers.
Knowing his parents didn't care about him anymore, he ran to the police station who were very interested in what he had to say. Even while being a key witness he was still pretty standoffish. How was he going to be sure that he wasn't going to get double-crossed? But he was proven wrong when lots of arrests were made and he was legally separated from his parents. Expecting to be thrown into foster care he was surprised to go to an orphanage called Wools. Well, at least they had food. Hopefully, he would stay here till he was old enough. Unless they would try and sell him too. If his parents didn't want him who would?
Wally had expected to spend his years at Wools little did he know he would find a family that actully wanted him. He gained parents that gave a s**t and 2 siblings! Hopefully there was plenty of food to go around

She worked as a mechanic and encouraged her daughter's creative spirit, even though the girl hated going into the shop. It was loud and hectic, but unfortunately, some days after daycare there wasn't an option. One day, when Everly was at preschool, her mom got into an accident at work and tragically passed away.
Everly was taken by a nice man to a new place to live, where she would be able to wait for a new family to take her in. It didn't make much sense at first, but the people that owned Wool's explained it better and promised hugs and stories when she needed it. Everly, however, started becoming something of a sister to the other kids, including using her tiny toolkit to help the others with small repair jobs with toys... or batteries... or anything else she could get her hands on. One of the kids in particular, Ruth, quickly became a friend, one who made Everly smile every time she saw her.
◊ OBSTINATERuth has very deep ingrained beliefs that she will argue about until she’s either red in the face or hiding somewhere crying. It’s very hard to get her to change her mind about nearly anything without very very persuasive and physical proof. ◊ SKITTISHHer time with her mother left Ruth very nervous around others and with very little social skills. She prefers watching to joining in nearly any activity if she isn’t forcibly made to do so. ◊ PARANOIDHer mother’s beliefs were passed to her leaving her suspicious of nearly everything and everyone around her. Anyone or anything new is immediately an enemy or at the very least cannot be trusted until she’s deemed it otherwise. ◊ PERCEPTIVEDue to her paranoia, Ruth makes sure she’s nearly always one step ahead of anything so she never gets surprised and thus can’t become nervous. It’s very hard to hide something from her whether it be a secret or a hidden snack. ◊ RESOURCEFULSince she’s afraid of nearly everyone and asking for help is nearly always out the question, Ruth has gotten very good at figuring out stuff for herself. CHILDHOODRuth was born to her parents Avila and Hrodger Hoefler. Her mother was a historian at a small museum and her father was a wizard who secretly worked in misinformation. He never told his wife what he was but had plans to if his daughter showed any inclination towards magic. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t get the chance as nearly a year after his daughter’s birth he would be in muggle London during a magical fiasco and bitten by a runespoor. By the time he could apparate to St. Mungos it was too late for him and he succumbed to the venomous bite. Avila was told the appropriate lie made by magical authorities and while suspicious, was too busy grieving to really question it. However, when Ruth began showing signs of magic, Avila’s grip on reality began to slide. She began believing it was because of her daughter’s gifts that her husband was somehow killed and that Someone was always watching them, waiting for them to slip so they could kill her as well. And she would tell this to her young daughter enforcing strict codes of conduct upon the girl to constantly be vigilant and to trust no one. Some days were nice than others with the mother teaching her young daughter Norse legends, her specialty at the museum, and helping her with reading. When Avila didn’t show up to work for two weeks without call or notice, police were sent to her home where they found black out curtains over every window, a filthy Ruth scrounging what she could from the pantry and a rambling Avila in the living room painting different sigils on the floor. Ruth was effectively taken from her care and placed at Wool’s who she believed worked for the All Knowing Thing her mother always talked about. In the year she was there she refused to talk to or interact with anyone until a girl her age came in. It took a while, but Ruth eventually warmed up to Everly enough to actually befriend her.

xxx𝒞𝒽𝒾𝓁𝒹𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxx Roxanne was born in Scotland and custody was taken over by her dad, Teylon. He worked as a musician with a few traveling acts, so Roxie didn't exactly have the most stable home life early on. It was a constant stream of travel and babysitters of various ages and skills, but she didn't mind so long as she had someone to hug her. Just after her third birthday, someone from MCPS came to take her away from her dad and to provide her somewhere stable to go. She didn't want to go, but by that point Roxie barely knew who was part of her family and who wasn't.
She was taken to a nice place called Wool's, and they promised she'd have all the friends she could want, plus some day she'd get a nice new family. What more could a kid want?! After befriending all the kids at Wool's, (or at least attempting to) she moved on to making friends with all the volunteers and other various big-big kids.

He sees everything as a game, and is fine playing it however he wants, as long as the outcome helps him. He rarely has a long plan, if any at all, and is very hard to read. ■ CHARMINGLan can be very charming. He has a good smile and knows how to use it, and when he thinks it will help him he can be the most well mannered child. He can be sweet, and kind, and use puppy dog eyes if he thinks it will get what he wants. He is very playful in his ways, and turns everything into a game so that when he breaks a rule most still find it funny and cute instead of bad. ■ EGOCENTRICLandon struggles to think of anyone but himself. This rule is exclusive only to his sister, who almost comes first in his life. He thinks he is the most important person in hsi world, and will always do whats best for him, even if it means throwing his friends under the bus. Generally he tries to make sure the outcome favours him and the people he cares about, but if it comes to a choice of helping himself or helping his family and friends, he will choose himself. ■ SADISTICLandon can be sadistic and mean. He likes to watch others suffer, if only because he thinks they deserve it. He loves people, only because they are unpredictable and fun to mess with. He likes to put people in chaotic or uncontrollable situations just to see how they react. People getting hurt is amusing to him because of their reactions. He doesn't actually care if they get hurt though, as long as their reactions are enough to entertain him. ■ MANIPULATIVELan can be a bit manipulative. He doesn't always mean to do it, but he knows he is sweet and charming and he knows how to use that to his advantage. Playing the poor orphan left at Wool's also tends to get him good things, and he isn't going to stop doing something just because it's not 'good'. He will use anything and anyone if he thinks it will benefit him in the long or short run. ■ CLEVERLandon is very clever. He understands and learns things quickly and can easily figure out how to apply those things to his life and situations in a way that helps him. He also reads people easily, and can quickly pick up on their mannerisms and body language. He always wants to know as much as he can about the people surrounding him, so that he always has the high ground in any interaction. Because of this need to always win, he tends to learn as much as he can about people he keeps close to him like friends and family, and hates when he is the last to know anything.

CHILDHOODWhen Landon was fourteen months old, his little sister Ady was born, and by the time he was two and a half his mother had left them at Wool's never to be seen again. She left a not behind that explained their fate. Their mother had fallen pregnant with Ady only five months after Landon was born, and their father left, unable to deal with the idea of two children under two. His mother tried her best to raise them but eventually she gave up and left them with the orphanage. She had never been able to connect to either child, and figured they would be safer with Wool's than with her. Despite having almost no memories of his life before Wool's he harbors a lot of anger towards his mother for failing at her one job, and will never forgive her for abandoning them.
Because of his anger, Landon found it hard to connect with the owners of Wool's and for the first few years he generally kept away from them and other adults. By the time he figured out how to use his charm to his liking, he had become older than what most people wanted to adopt, especially since he came with a little sister or not at all. Since he doubted he'd ever be adopted, he instead tried to create bonds with the other orphans... it didn't work really well when he liked to play too many 'mean' games though. He wanted to make sure that both he and Ady had people to fall back on in hard times tho. He knew well enough that having a family would be helpful for him in the future... even if that family was just a bunch of other orphans. Unfortunately so far he was terrible at making any sort of positive connection with anyone beyond his sister.

■ SMARTAdy is very smart. She learns quickly, and finds it enjoyable as well. She can generally be found reading a book, usually on some obscure topic, and can easily become obsessed with finding out every fact on a topic she gains interest in. She loves to know as much as she possibly can about anything and everything and dedicates a lot of her time to doing so. ■ CURIOUSAdy is beyond curious. Not only because she loves to solve puzzles and riddles, but also because she is always sticking her nose into everything. Whether it belongs there or not. Ady often finds herself in trouble because she got herself somewhere she didn't belong all because she was curious about what the outcome would be, or wanted to know more about a certain subject or person. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back is her motto. ■ HARD WORKINGAdalynn is hardworking. She puts effort into anything she finds important, and is always willing to go the extra mile to get something done. Grades are very important to her, and she can often be found studying or memorizing anything she thinks might be on a test or asked in class. Once she puts her mind to something, she is bound to do everything in her power to succeed. ■ SADISTICAdy can be a little sadistic. Sometimes its just because she doesn't think about other people's feelings before speaking or acting, but other times its because she just wants to see someone suffer for their wrongdoings... whether they are actual wrongdoings or just something she perceives as wrong. She has been known to hurt people on purpose with words or actions just for the fun of it, or because they have hurt her, or someone she cares about. ■ SOFT SPOKENGenerally Adalynn is soft spoken. She keeps to herself and is very quiet; often answering questions with one or two words instead of a full sentence. She doesn't make friends easily because of this. She can at times be very aggressive, but even then it is in ways that don't require her to talk a lot. ■ SENSIBLESensibility is very important to Ady. She tries her best to act through logic and her brain instead of using her heart and emotions. This isn't always easy, but even when she is basing her actions on her emotions, she tends to do so in a way that will keep her out of trouble, and still get the outcome she wants. She is very practical in all her actions, and finds it silly to talk about dreams and ideas that can't actually come to fruition.

◊ TIMIDBrian is rather timid. Thrown from a world where everything was contained and controlled into the great big world beyond, Brian tends to be apprehensive of everything. As a result, he doesn't speak much and has a hard time dealing with too many people at once. ◊ CAUTIOUSBrian is also cautious. He doesn't know much about the world, and what he has discovered scares him. Also, as he discovered his parents had done some horrible things, he's hesitant to trust people that aren't Eric. ◊ NAIVEBrian is rather naive about the world. He has no real experience outside of the basement he was raised, and doesn't understand much about how people act. As a result, he can easily be taken advantage of. ◊ CURIOUSBecause of his confinement, Brian is insanely curious about everything going on around him. While there are a lot of scary things that Brian doesn't understand, there is also plenty that cause him to ask Eric about. He is more than eager to learn about the world at large. ◊ CREATIVEBecause of his isolation, Brian has a very active imagination. He's had to create his own world within the basement, and he's taken that with him outside. He's eager to share ideas he has with Eric and expand his imagination past his old four walls. ◊ HONESTBrian is unfortunately incapable of lying. He's seen what happened when Eric lied to his parents, and after that, was horrified that his own parents hurt people with their lies. As a result, Brian refuses to do the same.

CHILDHOODBrian is the only child of Dean and Jillian Ramsey. His early childhood was full of loneliness and neglect. His parents barely paid him any attention, and only what they needed to so that he didn't starve. Otherwise his entire childhood was spent in the basement of their home, not knowing what the outside world was like or anyone besides his parents.
However, around the time he turned six, Brian's world expanded by one person. For a birthday gift, his parents brought down to his world a boy his age. The new boy, Eric, was completely unlike anything Brian had known at the time. At first, Eric screamed and cried a lot, begging to be let go, but Brian's parents never did so. After a while, however, Eric calmed down, and Brian was quick to include him in Brian's life. However, Eric was prone to act out, and unlike Brian, often got hurt for disobeying.
This all led to Brian's ninth birthday, when his mom came down and asked about bringing someone else in. Brian, not understanding what she meant by it, agreed, eager to meet someone new, but Eric started screaming at her, telling her it was wrong. As before, she started disciplining him, but this time more severely than she had previously. Brian was terrified at their sudden outbursts, and started yelling himself. After a sudden pulse of light, Brian's mom was dead and Eric was staring at Brian in shock. However, as the door upstairs was unlocked, Eric decided to take Brian and run from the house.
The two boys ended up at a police station, where Eric spoke with the police about what had happened. That's when Brian found out the truth. His parents had kidnapped Eric years earlier and kept him locked up alongside Brian. Brian couldn't even understand why. However, the police decided to take the two boys into child services, where it was revealed that Dean had escaped and Eric's family was dead. As a result, the two were transferred to Wool's when it was discovered that both boys were magical.
Around the time Brian turned eleven, he got his acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Unsure about how it was going to go, Brian wasn't willing to go until Eric also received his letter. When that happened, Brian was much more willing to go someplace new as opposed to staying at the orphanage. It also helped that he knew at least one student already, so he was a lot less nervous about the idea than he was originally.

◊ DETERMINEDEric is determined. All during his captivity, he never entirely gave up hope that he was going to get out, and tends to be single-minded in his focus when he needs to be. As a result, when he gets an idea into his head, he rarely lets it go. ◊ PROTECTIVELikely because of the abuse he suffered during his captivity, he doesn't want to see anyone else suffer like he does. He'll step into fights because he knows he's been through worse, and will quickly throw himself into danger especially if he knows it'll protect Brian. ◊ SUSPICIOUSWhile at one point in his life Eric was trusting, that disappeared quickly after his kidnapping. He doesn't trust easily, and thinks that people would hurt him if given the chance. As a result, the only people he trusts are those closest to him. ◊ INTELLIGENTEric is highly intelligent, figuring out how to do things quickly. He also has a knack for getting creative, especially when he's telling stories. Once given a problem, he'll quickly come to a solution that works. ◊ QUIETEric tends to be quiet. He knows that his quiet isn't how he used to be, but his biggest problem is that he can't quite break out of the mindset he was placed in while a captive. As a result, the only person he has no problem talking with is Brian. ◊ SNARKYWhile not initially sarcastic, Eric's snarkiness only developed after his time in the basement. He'll make snide comments, especially if he feels that they're completely warranted during a situation. He knows it can and has led to him getting hurt, but it has become a self-defence mechanism for him.

CHILDHOODEric Is the only son of Thomas and Janette Holmes. His first years of his life were good, having a loving home and family that took great care of him and made sure he was happy and cared for. He wasn't awre of anything wrong, just that he was perfectly happy.
However, he wasn't as safe as he thought he was. Dean and Jillian Ramsey had both taken an interest in him, and often stalked him as he went out with his parents. His sixth birthday was normal, but sadly that was the last bit of normalcy that Eric would enjoy for years. Soon after his birthday, Dean and Jillian broke into their house and murdered Thomas and Janette before kidnapping Eric. He was thrown into the back of their trunk after being hogtied and gagged, and the last bit of the outside world he saw was as the trunk closed on him.
Afterward, he was brought into the Ramsey home and taken downstairs where he met the reason for his kidnapping. Apparently they had decided to give their son a friend for his birthday, and Eric was it. Eric raged against the idea, screaming and pleading to be let go, but his kidnappers never listened. Brian, their son, tried to befriend him at first, but Eric ignored him. However, after several punishments, Eric gave up the idea of escaping and settled into a new 'normal'.
He never saw much of his kidnappers, but the basement that Brian and Eric inhabited became their entire world for the next three years. Because of the enforced isolation from anyone but Brian, Eric found himself becoming close friends with Brian, often helping Brian with his make-believe places while Eric told him as much about the outside world as he knew. However, he was prone to backtalk and not listening to his captors, causing Dean and Jillian to punish him regularly.
Around the time that Brian turned nine, however, that all changed. Jillian had come down to ask about bringing in someone new. Eric, knowing just what she meant by that, started arguing and screaming at her. That's when she decided to beat him, breaking Eric's arm in the process. However, a bright flash of light lit up the basement, and when Eric opened his eyes, he saw Jillian dead and a shocked Brian.
Taking the opportunity, Eric made a drastic choice. He took Brian and ran, going to the one place his parents had always told him if he ever was in trouble. The police at first were shocked by their appearance, but after Eric told them what happened, they immediately got him treatment for his injuries and both boys were sent to child services. After a bit, they transferred Brian and Eric to Wool's since it was discovered they were both magical, though Eric has a hard time believing that one.
Eric wasn't nearly as nervous about attending Hogwarts as Brian seemed to be, though he still wasn't happy about the idea of going to someplace new. However, when Brian got his letter, Eric decided to specifically ask why they had to go to magical school. That's when he learned that there's a possibility of losing control of his magic, which horrified Eric. As a result, Eric decided that it'd be fine to attend Hogwarts, even if he didn't like the idea of it.

GENTLE Percy's got a light touch. He handles people and situations delicately, and he's not loud or abrasive. LEADERLY Decisiveness, vision, courage, humility and integrity come naturally to Percy, and his mother used to call him a natural-born leader. Really though, he's just trying to be true to his moral code. He doesn't actively seek out leadership roles or anything. HURRIED While it doesn't cause too many problems, Percy moves swiftly. He doesn't like to make others wait, and in truth, doesn't much like waiting himself. Occasionally he'll need to remind himself to slow down a bit, if only to make sure he's not overlooking details or risking clumsiness. NEUTRAL Percy prides himself on being fair and impartial. He's not a very opinionated person, choosing instead to be very fluid in his beliefs. He'll let everyone make their case before choosing sides, and even then he remains malleable. EASILY DISCOURAGED A secret insecurity plagues Percy; it doesn't take many mistakes before he begins to feel like he failed. He struggles to keep a growth mindset, often getting stuck in the assumption that he'll never improve. SLY He's not necessarily deceitful, but he is clever and sometimes keeps his cards close to his chest. Most of the time, he can evade the consequences of his actions through force of wit, though he has occasionally been caught in a white lie.
EARLY CHILDHOOD Percy never knew his father, but he remembers that his mother loved him. It was hard for him to remember much more of her beyond that, as he'd found her dead when he was only about five years old. It was the first time he displayed magic, in reaction to the trauma. The folks at the orphanage told him years later that she'd overdosed. Overall, Percy didn't hate it at Wool's. There were plenty of other children, and he got along with most of them. Still, he looked forward to his school years and the opportunity he'd have to see a little more of the world.

EARLY CHILDHOOD Cornelius started with a silver spoon in his mouth. His parents were rich and knew plenty of people. He was an early bloomer with his magic. He didn't like the dark and each time his parents tried turning the light out it would simply turn back on or not turn off at all. Even the electrician man couldn't find anything wrong with it! Maybe it was some of that weird stuff he sometimes heard his parents talk about? Sometimes more adults came to his home all dressed the same in robes like it was a costume party! He never got to join cause they were always in the secret room he wasn't allowed in. He tried to make friends with some of the funny dressed adults but they mostly ignored him.
One day there was a BIG visit. Extra adults! They all seemed super serious and would shoo him when he asked why. Though his parents said he would get to join him for this party! He went and grabbed his stuffed bunny. He didn't want to party without his friend! His parents gave him some juice in his favorite cup and told him to drink it before they went to do adult things. He didn't want apple juice so he secretly dumped it out and his parents seemed pleased thinking he drank it. They put him down for a nap and said after nap he could join them. Content, he snuggled his bunny and fell asleep
He awoke sometime later but it was really quiet. He looked around the house calling for Mommy and Daddy. He couldn't find them anywhere! He decided to be brave and go to the super-secret room. Hopefully, he wouldn't get in trouble. When he slipped in he saw everyone doing their own naptime. Daddy usually snored but he didn't hear that. He went to where Mommy and Daddy were sleeping and tried to wake them. Did he miss the party? He even tried shaking Mommy and got worried cause that always woke Mommy! Why didn't anyone wake up! He knew how to use a phone and called the emergency number he learned from Mommy and Daddy. They could wake everyone up, right?
Soon there was a lot going on and lots of strangers coming out with long bags. Though he was sitting with some adults hugging his bunny. Though some nice people came to talk to him and had some questions that he did his best to answer. He asked if Mommy or Daddy had woken up yet and that seemed to make them sad. They mentioned that they very likely wouldn't wake up. They also mentioned that they had a place for him to live till he found a permanent family, a place called Wools.

She doesn't dislike humanity, but thinks that everyone alive is secretly horrible to the core. There isn't a person alive that she thinks truly cares about others, and in turn, she doesn't genuinely care about anyone, including herself.
xxxxx⇾Qᴜɪᴇᴛ: No matter what is going on around her, Csuri tends to remain silent. She speaks, but only in short sentences, usually just enough to get by. She scoots by on her quiet nature, preferring not to make any noise that draws attention to herself. She's not nearly wild enough for anything like parties or instruments anyway.
xxxxx⇾Rᴇsᴇʀᴠᴇᴅ: Csuri has become incredibly good at bottling up her emotions over the years. She rarely tells anyone about her feelings or thoughts, partially because she's afraid of becoming more outcast than usual. It takes a lot to get her to speak about herself, even in the barest of terms.
xxxxx⇾Iɴᴛᴇʟʟɪɢᴇɴᴛ: Despite her silence on nearly every topic, Csuri is incredibly smart. She reads books and learns quickly, even though she'll always refuse to answer questions in school. She often uses her intelligence in odd ways, including sneaking facts into her speech... whenever it is that she speaks, anyway.
xxxxx⇾Aᴘᴀᴛʜᴇᴛɪᴄ: Csuri doesn't ever seem to care about much of anything. Someone could get stabbed in front of her, and it's likely that she'd just stare off into the distance, frowning all the while. While she does care, she's just learned that she's almost always better off seeming completely heartless, if only just to get people to leave her alone.
xxxxx⇾Pᴇʀꜰᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴɪsᴛ: Secretly, Csuri is a total perfectionist. This manifests in her schoolwork, writing, and other small tasks she does. It's rare to see her hand in an assignment that she didn't spend hours on, revising and editing constantly, and she does that with any sort of project. Unfortunately, most projects are things affecting only her, so it's rather hard to see her passion of perfection sometimes.
xxx𝒞𝒽𝒾𝓁𝒹𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxx Csuri was born to a nice little family, or so it seemed. It didn't take long for her to realize that they could only be perfect in pictures. Of course, she didn't know everything, but it came to light that her dad was cheating, her mom had a spending problem... and neither particularly cared about Csuri. She'd only been created to help them look more like a perfect family. And because babies solved everyone's problems, right? So Csuri was mostly raised by her grandma, but the woman was very, very old. She was struggling to raise a baby, then eventually she had to give the actual parents an ultimatum. Either they took care of Csuri, or she would send Csuri off with a foster clinic. Of course, both parents determined that it would raise too many questions if the baby just... vanished, so they decided to give it a try. It... did not go well. CPS came and took Csuri away, moving her to an orphanage. So instead of a nice foster family somewhere, she had to be here with a bunch of other kids. It seemed some of them were able to get scooped up right away, but then there were some kids that had so many frickin problems that they'd probably be here until they retired. Now Csuri was one of them. Great.
Despite being put in Wool's at the tender age of five, Csuri was never chosen by any of the families that came by with the hopes of adopting. It reminded her of that one older kid that'd been there forever. But, all it did for Csuri was turn her heart cold. If they didn't want her, she didn't want them. Instead, she made friends with her school librarian and took more and more books back to Wools. If she spent all her time in fantasy, it made her life a little more bearable. Finally, on her eleventh birthday, she received her Hogwarts letter and felt she was finally able to escape. Maybe she could spend winters and summers there....

Kiah always frames things as politely and positively as possible: every cloud has a silver lining, and when things get dark, she is the first to take a bite out of the silver sandwich.
SELF-SACRIFICINGKiah’s optimism doesn’t apply to herself. Not really anyways. Despite her youth and optimism, Kiah has time and again sacrificed her own happiness for her mother's, her stepfather’s, and her stepsiblings. Her compassion for others is not matched with a compassion towards herself. Similarly, she’s happy to give others as many second chances as needed, but apologies profusely, not believing herself worthy of the same chances. She wishes for everyone’s happiness and health, but seems to also believe that happiness and health are not in store for her.
RESOURCEFUL Growing up poor, Kiah and Anasuya were always hard pressed to make the most of what they had, from food to clothes to toys. Kiah grew to view these minimally available funds and constraints as mental puzzles and challenges, and tries to be adaptable. A simple paperclip with a googly eye and an old broken spatula with a ribbon and buttons attached to it were her dearest childhood toys. A little older, Kiah developed a knack and hobby of repurposing and upcycling, or at least thinking of ways something could be repurposed. Food was the only non-negotiable, but Kiah still does her best to be creative and efficient with food.
TACTILEDespite her frail health and body, Kiah likes getting her hands dirty--figuratively and literally! She enjoys cooking most of all, or at least mixing things and helping out in the kitchen, and likes touching things for the texture and feel. Window shopping usually involved going inside, touching the fabrics and dreaming of fantasies where she or others can be wearing these clothes. When she shares stories, she gesticulates wildly, and uses anything near as a prop.
LOGICALHelping with chores and cooking was one of the few things Kiah could do when she wasn’t at school, and physical orderliness translated to an inclination for mental orderliness: Kiah likes it when things line up reasonably if not always rationally: she likes when she can follow a clear path of thoughts or steps to reach a conclusion, and when people do the objective thing that leads to the most happiness for the most people. She loves beautiful things and dreaming of fanciful tales, but a young life of hunger and poverty has led her to favor function over form, and practicality over idealism.

xxx🍳BACKSTORY🍴xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 🍳🍴EARLY CHILDHOOD Anasuya Ngata, nee Amin, found out 12 days after her husband’s death that she was pregnant. The couple had all but given up on children and turned to raising cats instead. Following the death, Anasuya moved back to England and nine months later, Inara Kaveri Amin was born, under Anasuya’s maiden name. Although mother, daughter, and cat lived paycheck to paycheck in a small guest room leased from a friend, they found solace and happiness in each other.
Inara, nicknamed Kiah because she used to write her name as Kaveri Inara, was a sickly baby and child: she had particular trouble with anything physical, and did not start walking until she was nearly 2. Kiah struggled in early schooling and was often called lazy, touchy, or even slow. Anasuya never faulted Kiah though, and her spirit was instilled in her young daughter as sweet optimism and an uncommon resilience. Anasuya worked to the bone paying for treatments and care though, something that didn’t escape Kiah’s notice, even young.
Anasuya mourned her third spouse for seven years. She did not look for love again, but in 2052 ran into an old high school classmate, now a widower and father of two. Dutiful, practical, and plain, Sal Malakar was everything young Anasuya would have considered boring, but age and experience now made him endearing. Sal brightened her mother’s life, and Kiah fully supported Anasuya remarrying six months after they reconnected. Sal gladly filled in a father figure role Kiah had never had, and excited her with stories about the symbolism of flowers and herbs he grew.
🍳🍴STEPFAMILY and SURRENDERKiah did her best to get along with her stepfamily, but to little avail: Her new grandparents disliked her and her mother on principle, calling Anasuya a “gold-digging vagabond” and Kiah a “weak, ill-bred runt”. Their abuse was mostly verbal though, and aside from a few nasty looks, they mostly respected Sal’s choice. Kiah’s new stepsiblings, Zinnea and Zulien, one older and one younger than Kiah herself, were initially distant if polite for all appearances. At first they simply continued ignoring her, leaving her behind when walking to and from school; this soon changed to teasing, and then to “accidentally” dumping grass or dirt on her or tripping her. They called her “dusty” or “dust child” as a backhanded term of endearment, for the messes they insisted she made. Confused by their turn-faces but not wanting to strain her stepfamily's relationship with Anasuya, Kiah didn’t complain and even lied to take the blame for anything that went wrong, magical or otherwise.
Prior to the remarriage, the magical things that happened to Kiah were small: golden bubbles would appear when she was taking a bath, and she could keep surprisingly warm or cool in temperature extremes. Kiah’s father had been a wizard, and Anasuya tried to be supportive of Kiah’s burgeoning magic, even if she knew nothing about it or how to reach wizards in the U.K. Stranger things happened once they moved into the Malakar household though: things would just vanish and reappear somewhere else, tools that were broken would turn up mended, and electronics were constantly running haywire without explanation. Zinnea and Zulien blamed the accidents on Kiah’s arrival, and while most of these were harmless and unpredictable, these small traces of magic served as more fodder for Zinnea and Zulien’s mockery and bullying.
In Winter of 2053, Sal and Anasuya went on their first trip together--a late honeymoon of sorts-- leaving the kids with their grandparents for a weekend. It was the first time Kiah and Anasuya would be apart for so long. Their oldest surviving cat, Plum, died and Kiah buried her in the garden. Zinnea and Zulien decided to prank her though, and dug up the body, stringing Plum’s body up over Kiah’s bed. When she woke up, Kiah screamed, and everything launched away from her, making a storm of their room and hitting her grandparents who had come to investigate.
It wasn’t her stepsiblings calling her a freak or being suddenly afraid that hurt--it was hearing her grandparents lay down an ultimatum: Kiah needed to leave. Knowing her mother would choose to suffer rather than abandon her, Kiah made the choice for her and ran away, taking Plum’s last remaining kitten, a little thing she called Peachums, with her. Together, the two spent a snowy, stormy night sheltering in a nearby park. When the storm cleared late the next day, a Magical Child Protective Services agent found her. Anasuya was relieved, but was forced to acknowledge she neither had the understanding to support Kiah’s burgeoning magical abilities, nor the resources to make sure she could receive a comfortable life. With heavy hearts, they talked it over and finally, Kiah said goodbye to her stepfamily. Anasuya maintained contact as best she could, visiting Wool’s every other weekend to socialize with Kiah and the other kids.

xxx𝒞𝒽𝒾𝓁𝒹𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxx Meallan was born in a sunny Irish town, to a young woman and her boyfriend. It wasn't long after that they decided to break up, but instead of splitting custody, the woman decided to flee, leaving a young Donal to raise a small baby. It was rough at first, but when Mea's doctor suggested visiting an audiologist, they discovered the baby was born mostly deaf. After weighing options, Donal settled on getting Cochlear Implants so his son would be able to experience all the world.
Despite getting a more permanent hearing device, Donal still taught himself and Meallan basic sign language, hoping that would give him a leg up in life. He also practiced reading lips as a last resort (though he had no way to know Meallan would become super good at it). To ensure he had the best possible life, Donal also hired on a speech therapist to make sure his son spoke with ease, like any other kid. Luckily the state was willing to work with him on the costs. When Meallan was three, Donal discovered he had a terminal disease and his time on earth was limited. He tried his best to set up his son with... anyone. Friends, family, but no one wanted the added responsibility. Eventually Donal succumbed to his disease, still gently cradling his son.
Even though he didn't really know what was going on, Meallan wept and refused to wear his hearing aids for a week. He was moved by some nice people into a home for other kids like him, those with no parents. Only a couple days in and a nice lady helped convince him to put back on the receivers for his implants, letting him hear the chaos of his new home. Now he's struggling to adapt to his new normal while just wishing for a nice, quiet home once more.
As he stayed at Wool's, he met lots of nice people. His favorites were a nice couple called Laili and Nani. They were very nice and read him lots of books, plus they colored with him and even helped with his ears sometimes. After a few visits, they asked if he wanted them to be his mommies, and honestly, his heart was so happy to accept.

xxx𝒞𝒽𝒾𝓁𝒹𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxx Cassiopeia was born to Alex and Maureen Nightingale, a dying line of Pureblood wizards. Alex and Maureen opted to live away from society, in a cabin built deep in a wooded forest. They kept away from all people, especially other wizards, assuming people might track them down and make them follow the masses. It was at the cabin that Cass learned all about the world, taking time to grow with the flowers and trees. It was a happy, carefree childhood. She never really cared that her parents seldom left, thinking the outside world was cold and cruel. It didn’t stop Cass from dreaming about the world beyond their little forest. When she was about eight, a kindly neighbor started coming around, befriending the family and giving neat, old world gifts to Cass. He was always really nice, and quickly earned the trust of the rather reclusive family, even if he was weird and only came by after dinner. Maureen especially fancied up to the man, trusting him to help take care of their forest and keep them safe. Alex was a little less enthused, having worked hard to make sure their little slice of earth was safe and protected so their little Cass would never get harmed by outside people. When Cass was a little past nine, she woke up in the middle of the night to a loud scream. She pushed herself out of bed and hurried toward her parents’ room. There, she saw a shadowy figure holding her mom, who looked limp. The figure made eye contact, which chilled Cass to the bone. She quickly ran back to her room and hid. The next morning, Cass went to investigate, finding both her parents dead, but lovingly tucked into bed. The girl cried all day, trying to figure out what to do. She didn’t know any magic and they didn’t have a phone. Curse being weird, tree loving people. That night, their neighbor came over once more. Once he saw what happened, he held Cass, offering to care for her and protect her. Her parents had trusted him, after all. She agreed, knowing her parents never spoke to those outside of the forest. Tomlison convinced her that her parents wouldn’t want to be buried away from their forest, so they had a small funeral and buried Alex and Maureen deep in the forest, using fancy rocks to mark their graves. Cass stayed with the man, Tomlison Southwark, who offered to adopt her. Cass, however, wanted to keep her name and her family, so she denied. This seemed to annoy Tomlisson, for some reason. When she was about ten, Tomlison took her outside, under the moon, and bit into her neck. She’d never really questioned where he always wandered off to before, but it made a heck of a lot of sense now. He was a vampire! Despite not wanting to be anywhere near the man, Cass also knew that she didn’t have anywhere else to go. She relented, letting the man show her the stars and other weird old-guy activities. Every day, she remembered that eventually she’d get to go to Hogwarts and escape, but it seemed forever away. One afternoon while she was awake (despite Tomlison’s wishes), she noticed some papers in the still smoldering fireplace. Using the kitchen tongs, Cass grabbed them, seeing the Hogwarts crest and some writing. Wait. Was this her Hogwarts letter? Was she finally going to be free? Cass spent the summer plotting, though she still pretended to be feeble and soft so she wouldn’t get in trouble. Toward the end of August, Cass waited until noon, grabbed Tomlisson’s wand, packed all her clothes in an old trunk, stole some money, and ran for the trees. Once she was far enough away, Cass found a path to the road her parents used to use when they’d go into town. Once at the road, she summoned the Knight Bus, begging to go to Diagon Alley. When she made it to Diagon Alley, she went shop to shop, using their knowledge of previous first years to get her full list. As long as she was in the daylight, she figured she was pretty safe. As she wandered, carrying all her stuff, a nice shopkeep noticed her, asking if she was okay and if her parents were nearby. She lied, saying yes, to avoid trouble. Luckily for her, he didn’t believe it, and in fact seemed to know she needed help. He brought her into his shop (it was full of owls!) and offered hot tea while he called someone. A man in a nice suit came to talk to her in Milo the Owl Shop Owner’s office, where she did her best to explain what had happened.

The good days are great, the bad days are miserable. She doesn't often hold this against herself, viewing herself as the passionate type with a flair for dramatics and adventure. If anything, she likes to keep people on their toes. She tells herself if she's too much for someone, then they simply weren't enough for her. No hard feelings.
PERFECTIONIST Annalise has high standards when it comes to herself and anything she does. She has a keen eye (and ear) for detail. Her homework needs to be thorough. Her hair needs to be just so. When she's drafting new music, she'll spend hours on end until she achieves just the right sound, and then she needs to repeat until it comes second nature to her. No one else is ever held to these standards. So long as they're taking care of themselves and giving it their all, they have Annalise's respect. For herself though, she can't practice what she preaches. She'll never hope to stand out from the crowd with anything less than perfection.
SELF-CRITICAL Annalise's self-confidence is nothing but a front built up from years of bitter disappointment. In all her years, no one has ever wanted her. She thinks maybe, just maybe, if she pushes herself hard enough she'll find some sort of sense of belonging. Yet at the same time she consistently invalidates herself, telling herself she's fundamentally flawed. That even if she can live to her own standards, she may still never be enough. Annalise Watson is her own worst enemy.
NURTURING Despite how she sometimes comes off, Annalise cares deeply for the people close to her. She is happy to lend a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on for those who need it. Although she doesn't treat herself with the same kindness, she will try to give gentle guidance when able, providing a support system she wishes she could have had for herself.

EARLY CHILDHOOD Annalise didn't know her parents, but she did know her mother loved her. Shortly after her birth Annalise was abandoned at Wools with only a name, a letter, and an engraved, silver bracelet that read, "There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart." The parting words of her mother led Annalise to ask about her family often, and the staff that took care of her lacked the answers she hoped for. That was fine. Annalise was of a curious mind and would be determined to make sense of it all one day. In the meantime, her time at Wool's went well enough. There was always a commotion with the other children that helped her to feel less lonely and kept her from thinking too long about her parents. Even if she may not have always gotten along with everyone, there was almost always a playmate around. The worst days were when one of her orphaned siblings were adopted--the home seemed quieter, but she tried to be happy for them despite her jealousy.
Music was one of the best things in life. In particular, Annalise enjoyed high energy rhythms that made her want to jump up and dance. The music helped her to shut her mind off and relax. After Annalise turned six, she started to notice the strangest phenomenon with the radio. Occasionally, if what was playing was particularly boring and Annalise wished it would stop, it would suddenly change stations. As she got older, she realized it would change to her favorite stations, the ones she knew by heart. Eventually it became pretty evident her magic was the cause of it, despite rarely having any other surprise occurrences. On her eleventh birthday Annalise received her letter for Hogwarts, and she couldn't wait to go and learn what other sorts of things her magic could do.
SCHOOL YEARS
♫FIRST YEAR Annalise made it through her first year at school without many incidents. When she was lost exploring the castle one day, she stumbled across one of the Wellbelove siblings admiring a wall of tapestries. Before she knew it, Yari had adopted Annalise as her protégé of sorts. As the year passed she started to gain more of an appreciation for fashion--it wasn't music, but obviously she needed a new hobby since her music player was totally useless at school. By suggestion of Flora Helen, and in an effort to keep her emotions in check, she joined Namaste. She considered joining the music club, but ultimately refrained this year since she wasn't sure what sort of instrument she might take up. Everything she liked was electronic, and music club...
