Weapon Proficiencies

______________Overview
tab Weapon Proficiencies are similar in nature to things such as the Proficiencies from the popular pen-and-paper Dungeon and Dragons role playing game. A Proficiency dictates what weapons a character knows how to utilize without decapitating themselves, and what ones should remain buried in the shed out back. Below you will a find a list of proficiency examples, but to better explain it is this: you must be specific with weapon types. If you would desire a weapon that falls into one of these types, but is not listed under it, please inform an Approval Moderator before establishing your choice in order to see if it is simply a weapon we missed, or if it will be considered a Strenuous Proficiency. Each Proficiency has a range from E - rank to S - rank, each requiring training and class points to establish properly. The max rank a proficiency can be trained up to is decided by Experience Rank limitations. Below you will find the definitions of these particular terms and how best to utilize them in the creation of your character. If there are any questions, please contact a member of the Approval Moderation team, listed here (Provide link).

______________Terms // Vocabulary
tab • Weapon Proficiency
tab tab → Proficiency is the term used to establish what weapons, if any, a character knows how to utilize effectively. Without a point in the appropriate Proficiency, you cannot utilize your weaponry properly to even attack with E - ranked speed or damage.
tab • Categories
tab tab → Categories are the main heading type for Proficiencies, and serve as an umbrella for the weapons that fall under it. Small Blades, as an example, is the Category where one would find a dagger, a knife, etc. Selecting a Category will bestow E - ranked Basic Training for all weapons under its umbrella, and as such requires one [1] Proficiency Point to gain access to the weapons within. A further point is required to be spent on a single Proficiency within the Category to unlock Advanced Training.
tab • Basic Training
tab tab → When selecting a Category under which a character may begin selecting Proficiencies you gain an E - ranked amount of learning and understanding with all weapons listed under this Category. This means a character can use all Proficiencies under the Category with up to E - rank Speed and Damage.
tab • Advanced Training
tab tab → Once a character has selected a Category, they may spend an additional point to access Advanced Training for a weapon under the category. Each weapon chosen in this way takes up one [1] more Proficiency Point. Once selected, the character may begin advancing their training in the weapon up from E - rank to D - rank, C - rank, B - rank, etc. This training may only progress as far as the Experience Rank of the character allows, and gives the character the ability to spend Stamina up to the rank trained to replicate that rank in speed and damage.
tab • Weapon Proficiency Points
tab tab → Designated as W.P., these designate the points given by rank up and other sources that may be used to select more Categories or Proficiencies. They are non-transferable between characters unless otherwise specified, and can never be used in place of Skill Proficiency Points for that system.
tab • Simple Techniques
tab tab → Simple techniques are the bottom of the totem pole, utilizing only Stamina for any form of aggressive or defensive action. A Simple technique is considered one half [½] rank lower than a Complex technique, and one [1] full rank lower than a Spiritual technique when they collide.
tab • Combat Style Proficiencies
tab tab → Do not let these fool you! Anyone can learn to fight with a weapon in each hand, with two hands on one weapon or with a shield in the offhand. This proficiency, however, just means the character has invested time, and energy, into learning more advanced forms of training. This proficiency will allow for alternative, locked abilities within styles and will be referenced in Talents dealing specifically with those styles. The lack of a point in one of these by no means translates to the character being unable to fight in this style.
tab • Intensive Weaponry
tab → Unlike normal proficiencies, an Intensive weapon is that which is so unique in its training, use, or design that no other weapon proficiency can be used to even be close to the same level of use. Weapons that are incredibly large, or strange, fall under this category, and to use them requires two [2] WP to learn them. Taking an Intensive Weaponry Proficiency grants Advanced Training in that weapon and that weapon alone. These weapons can have additional effects, and a member of the Approval Team should be reached out to for further discussion of the limitations, and design, of the weapon in question.
tab • Complex Techniques
tab tab → Complex techniques are the middle of the totem pole, utilizing half chakra, and half stamina, to pay the cost of their techniques. A Complex technique is considered one half [½] rank stronger than a Simple technique, but one half [½] rank lower than a Spiritual Technique.
tab • Spiritual Techniques
tab tab → Spiritual techniques are at the top of the totem pole, utilizing chakra to fuel all of the cost of the technique. A Spiritual technique is considered one [1] full rank higher than a Simple Technique when they collide, while only being one half [½] rank higher than a Complex technique.

______________Protocol // Rules
tab • Proficiencies are also known as “Formless Combat”, or “Unnamed Fighting Techniques”. These represent the utilization of Stamina to attack without needing to know a Style to perform it. If a character were to simply heft the largest stick nearby and swing it at someone using a defensive technique from a Style, normally the Style would win. However, by utilizing Stamina up to the rank the Proficiency is trained in, the branch-swinging character would be able to meet, or break through, the aforementioned Style defense. At all times all Proficiency attacks are considered Simple attacks in regards to the hierarchy of Simple, Complex, and Spiritual techniques.
tab • Every character begins at E - rank with two [2] WP's, with an additional one [1] point granted at every following Experience Rank.
tab • WP’s are determined primarily by the classes selected by the character, as well as the Experience Rank of the character itself. Personal Attributes may be utilized to receive an additional two [2] WP’s per Personal Attribute used.
tab • Skill Proficiency Points are not WP points. These two are not interchangeable as the scaling system is completely different. Please keep a listing of all WP points you receive and where they come from on your character profile.
tab • The steps to utilizing the Proficiencies are written below, in chronological order:
Step [1] → Calculate total number of WP’s currently allotted to the character through class, history, and any Event rewards.
Step [2] → Take a look at the listing of Categories that currently exist. Keep in mind that selecting one [1] Category gives you Basic Training in all of the weapons listed in that Category. Utilizing one [1] WP per Category, select which categories you wish to have Basic Training in.
Step [2a] → Two Weapon Fighting, Single Weapon Fighting, and Weapon and Shield Fighting are all Categories of a particular make. By selecting it through the use of one [1] WP each, only then to select the Proficiency within them, the character is then able to continue Advanced Training in that selection to allow the use of the aforementioned Category and Proficiency up to the character’s Experience Rank limitations.
Step [3] → Look at the weapons listed within the Category(ies) you selected. Which ones would the character take further training in? For one [1] WP per weapon selected, choose the weapons your character will have Advanced Training in. Once this selection is made it is final unless otherwise specified.
Step [4] → Follow this process for all WP collected.
