Miach huffed silently to herself as she cleaned up her hands and arms after having to dress the meat she had hunted a little earlier in the day. Tears had already dried on her cheeks from having to kill the creature before her. Miach knew that she needed to eat to live and that this was a way of life, but she hated having to kill it herself. She lifted her hands from the water and stared at them as the water dripped into the soft grass. They were clean, but she wasn't ready to move past the hurt of what she had to do just yet. Later she would forgive herself, right now she wanted to be sad over having to kill such an innocent animal. Instead, she turned her attention to gathering the tools that she had cleaned and started her trek back towards her grandfathers house.

The walk back to the house had only taken a few minutes and she was glad that they had a fresh water source somewhat close by that she could wash up at without contaminating the water of the rest of the town. The idea of people bathing in the bloody water or stopping to take a drink from it turned her stomach. Her grandfather wasn't home as he was out hunting for pelts and her mother had taken a short trip to the next hold to seek new adventures and fun. It wasn't unusual for Kiadlin to wander off from their hold for days or sometimes months at a time and it didn't bother Miach that she wasn't around.
In fact, Miach tended to look at her more as a friend than an actual mother,
so it was a lot like a friend had went off to learn something new. Miach didn't have a lot of friends in her hold and didn't know for sure that's what friends did, but she assumed so. A smile graced her lips as her attention turned to the bright sky that hung brightly over Benden. At least the day would be bright and cheery, hopefully it would hold as the day went on.

High above the sky, a blue dragon wheeled and played on the currents. H'sad didn't often get an opportunity to fly outside of High Reaches Weyr territory, especially now that the Weyrs were scrambling to piece themselves back together. Where High Reaches Weyr was once the only truly functioning Weyr on the Northern Continent, now that Thread had returned, the rest of the Weyrs were starting to come back together. Dragons and riders were flocking to the various territories in need of riders, which meant the Holds now had new relationships to create. It meant they called on High Reaches less and less, as they focused on their local Weyrs.

This was as it should be, H'sad knew; it would be better for Pern to go back to the old ways, for the local Holds to have riders to rely upon locally. It would also ease the strain on High Reaches riders and their resources.

Today, though, he'd been requested to drop off a local Harper to the main Hold. The man had been granted a temporary leave to visit his ailing mother. He felt he would do better at the Hold, with her, than solely corresponding via messages. Once she recuperate, passed, or stabilized, he'd send message for a return to the Weyr. It had been a relatively short trip, but now Cinonth wanted to enjoy a bit of freedom before returning back to the Weyr; and H'sad the change of scenery. He didn't need to think about Thread, or Dr'stan, or the loneliness he felt every time he stepped into his weyr; he didn't need to worry about Wing Drills, or figuring out how he was going to vibe with his new Wingleader.

No.

He could just enjoy the view, and the thrill of his dragon wheeling, diving, and soaring. He cold tell Cinonth was enjoying himself, the dragon's joy echoing through their bond. "That'a boy!" He crowed as the blue pulled up from a steep dive. The dragon gave a happy bugle, until quite suddenly, the creature's entire mood changed. The joy suddenly turned into a wave of curiosity, and the dragon's game stopped immeidately. Instead of catching the next thermal up into the sky, the dragon changed where they were flying and immediately made a beeline for the river.

What caught your eye now? Thirsty? H'sad questioned.

Yes... but there is also someone down there who is interesting to me. I want to say hello.

Uh-oh. H'sad knew what that usually meant. Well, if they were going to waste time in Benden Hold, he might as well see what made them so interesting. Not that, he knew, that Benden Weyr would likely appreciate them searching their people... but Western did it all the time, and quite frankly, to the victor goes the spoils. If their dragons weren't sensitive to whoever Cinonth had discovered, that was on them.

As they neared, H'sad saw the red-haired someone near the waters edge. The blue dragon wasted no time. With a whoosh of air, the blue landed not far off on the bank, his eyes whirling blue-green of curiosity. Would they stay, or would they run?

Miach had been on her way from heading away from the river but quickly found herself turning around, realizing that she had forgotten one of the tools. Just as she had been about to grab the tool on the ground a giant thud accompanied a blue dragon landing not far from her. Miach squeaked before falling back onto her butt, her knees up, arms extended behind her and some of her long hair blocking her face.

Startled as she was, Miach's hazel eyes locked onto the blue dragon who's eyes were whirling blue-green. Despite Benden having dragons of flying through the skies, this was her first time seeing one up close. So close. Her breath caught in her chest as she took in it's massive size. Dragons were large--everyone knew that. She just never realized just how large they were. While it was very unlikely, if that dragon wanted to eat her, it could do it without much of a hassle. Or so it seemed. Just as her initial fear at seeing her first dragon up close started to settle in a new emotion quickly spread through her veins. Excitement. Miach was in awe of the dragon before her and she couldn't believe what events had occurred to allow this opportunity. It shone beautifully in the bright sunlight. It took several moments before she even noticed the rider perched atop the dragon and the sight before her became even more awe-inspiring.

Wait, why was the dragon here? Miach reluctantly turned her head from the dragon to quickly glance around. There were no other dragons in sight, or food for it to eat. Her hazel eyes once more locked onto the dragon. Maybe it was thirsty? Out of all of the places it could have stopped it seemed odd that their small part of the stream would be worth it's time. Her head tilted to the side before one of her arms raised slowly, so as not to spook the dragon in case it meant to harm her, and waved. She didn't talk to strangers and when the few occasions arose for such a thing, her words were nothing but a stuttered and barely comprehensible mess--if they could hear her at all.

The question at the forefront of her mind was, why was the dragon here? And furthermore, what did it want? Miach shifted her eyes to it's rider as if waiting for an answer.
