What happened to the Kusini previously?

The Kusini’mwezi was reformed from a former member years ago. She built the pride up with her mate and children. The land thrived and an heir was picked to replace her. However, drama ensued from the first born not liking the decision, and decided to leave. Upon his return, Denahi had witnessed his younger brother, Tamu-jitu, murder their mother, however the youngest son ran off, leaving the former prince and the deceased queen alone. Asikari, the king of the pride, found the two and chased Denahi away, believing it was him who had killed his mate.

When word got around that Denahi wasn’t the one who had brought down the queen, he was able to return, but was rather wary with everything.

The Kusini lands slowly began to die. Crops and grasses did not grow, herds dwindled, rain did not come. As much as the pride tried to survive, they found themselves failing. They would pray to the Harvest god to come up their beloved lands, but they were never answered.

By the time the rains returned to the land, only a few of the pride remained.

What’s going on now?

A new lion and his followers had managed to get through the winding maze of the forest. He brought new hope for the lands, noting that across the raging river in the ‘forbidden God’s territory’ seemed to be lush life. Maneuvering a way across, the lion known Dastan found that life could flourish in the new part of the land.

Most of those that remained in the Kusini’mwezi lands found new faith in their pride, and begun to rebuild in the newly discovered land. Others (the older pride members) were hesistant to stay on the sacred land. These members became Mkulimas, a position set up to regrow the older lands.

The current ruler of the Kusini lands, Aisu, had fallen for Dastan, and soon the two became a mated pair.

With Dastan as Mfalme, the Kusini’mwezi changed.

No longer does the pride worship the Harvest god. With his rule, he has set up a new hierarchy system and names. The Kabaila because the Malkia. The Mfalme now has complete rule instead of being treated as equal. The former elders had either dispersed or fled, leaving Dastan to restructure the Council. The land was partitioned in four, from Royalty and council, to warriors, to Mwindaji and yaya, and finally the Nje. This newly established rank is for the non-lion species of the pride. Dastan not liking the idea of mingling the species together, did not want to ultimately kick them out, but decided to have them bear this rank.

User Image

So, what does this mean if I have an original member that is a non-lion or hybrid?

At this time, your SoA will take up the rank as Nje. When the Kusini’mwezi becomes official, a small meta will roll out that will be the deciding factor if hybrids become a normal rank amongst the Kusini, or if they will remain as they are.

Right now, the pride is residing on the sacred lands.

When the pride reaches a total of ten members, majority will move west of the sacred lands. The Mkulima will reside on the old territory of the Kusini lands, working on bringing it back to it's former glory.

The old river that use to serve as the eastern border of the pride has dried up, which makes the land easily accessible from the east. The forest border still proves to be a challenge to those not accustomed to the maze. Arirsalas with the ability to sense nearby rogues will seek out those lost in the forest and escort them into the pride.

Relationships in the pride are between the two parties involved. These can be marriages or flings, and anything in between.

During Dastan's rule, the only thing frowned upon is inter-species relationship. During his reign, any non-lion species will get the title of Nje, and will live on the older Kusini'mwezi territory.

History of the pride:

It was said that long ago lions used to come from the night stars. It only made sense, since many believed that the night time sky is where great kings ended up. The Kusini'Mwezi established a long time ago, and every time a fallen star was spotted elders whispered that births would be coming, new life would be springing up. Comet showers always meant that the year would boom, populace increase would be a sure thing and all would be well.

For many ages, a rumor that a blue star could be seen in the sky, right near the horizon. Stories and myths were created, foretelling why this star was blue as opposed to white like the rest of the bright, glowing lights. None of their stories were ever proven; this is because one night a large storm blew in. It was like a storm no lion had ever seen, it raged on for days over Africa, spewing out sheets of hard, pelting water and flashes of lightening. It lasted for a total of six days, in which many lions became sick and died.

Rain was a blessed thing, but too much of a good thing killed. On the following night of the long-lived storm the stars sparkled as brightly as ever. But all over the south murmurs were made. Where was the blue star? It was missing! There could be only one answer, the star had fallen and somewhere another lion was born.

Was this lion important? An answer to the rogue life? Would it come and sweep these lions off of their paws, so to speak? All of these would be answered, or so the lions thought, from one prophecy made by a mysterious lioness. No one knew if she was magical or not, god or mortal, but they did believe in her prophecies. How it went, many lions could tell you.

He comes, He comes.
Delivered from the skies of sea,
as the blue miracle goes missing.
Chaos spreads through the hearts of many,
but he comes.
Entering on the back of Autumn’s dying breath,
he that shows promise.
He binds the unruly together.
In power lies his demise,
in loyalty lays his savior.
His downfall surely means equilibrium to all,
His survival leads to sure destruction.
He comes; He comes,
pray that the day comes
when he leaves again,
to return to his home of eternal loneliness.

In it tells of a savior, though much of the prophecy the lions choose to ignore, fearing how true it could be. Would destruction come to their population?

For the next two years the lions were still in a bit of a panic, a dull confusion. Stars had not been falling as often as they once had, in fact, they barely fell at all. Many became sick; they feared their race was dying off. They did not know that many of their kind traveled beyond the south, in areas to the north, west, and east. Their world was the south.

The hunts had been failing, and even the vegetation had been slowly dying. Where was their savior? The blue star? They were growing low in spirit, and did not know what to do. They had no one to look to, except for the slim chance that prophecy would come true, even if only a little.

On one of the last days of Autumn, on the second year, their prayers seemed to be answered. The winds were blowing strong that day, and into their midst a stranger came. Proud in his standing he was, fur of an odd gray that sometimes seemed to sparkle gray. His mane was full and lush, although pure white in color at such an early age. His eyes sparkled with a quiet intelligence, a deep, midnight blue.

It took him only one year to establish a pride amongst their ranks, slowly climbing to the top and claiming himself as their king. Shooting stars could be seen often again, hunting was getting better, and the sick were no more. He was the blue star of which they all dreamed about, there was no doubt in their minds.

He called himself Nili'Nyota.

With him as their leader they thrived, and lasted many long years. Though he was growing old, and many worried because he had not picked a heir to the throne, nor did he fall in love or have cubs. Ten long years it had been, but changes had slipped in here and there. He we power hungry, and deceived them many times. He began to receive more food rations; he raised close friends to the elder positions. Births were not as often, and laughter happened less and less.

The pride was slowly rolling into a valley, a deep valley; No, a pit. And at the bottom lay their doom. They could not imagine that their precious savior would try and rule them so strictly, but he had.

In the next few years, surely his time of death was near; births were restricted to only when he allowed them. Hunts were less, many died. The elderly were cast out from the pride and were told to fend for themselves.

It was whispered throughout the pride that the eusibaridi had taken him, the black wind. It was rumored to consume souls, turn them evil. Though rebellion was springing up, quietly and insignificantly, but it would grow.

One of the younger lions, Eupe'Nyoya was forming a group to resist the evils that were now Nili'Nyota. They provided meat for the others, though it would be when hunting was strictly forbidden. A few of the mated pairs even dared to start the cycle of life again, but were quickly sent out of the pride; banned.

The day finally came when Eupe had gathered most of the pride into believing that Nili should be no more. A fight between Nili and Eupe began a bloody and dreadful fight. It was a sad day, seeing their once beloved savior finally be put down.

Though he gathered many wounds, Eupe won the battle. Nili lay dead after the fight, in a pool of mixed blood; both his own and Eupe?s. Nili's loyal friends ran that day, and again the former pride was put into chaos and confusion.

It took two years for things to go back to a semi-normal state, Eupe slowly set up a pride. Though to ensure power would never corrupt him he began the tradition of four elders, guides that would help him rule the lands. Other jobs were set up, such as head huntress. Never again would the king be able to say who was allowed to hunt, or when. It was the head's job now.

As time progressed so did the pride, new things were learned. Such as herbs, and how they help heal. One lion began to devote himself solely to the study of herbs, and thus the tradition began.

Ever so slowly the belief in stars died out, or was not spoken out loud. Only a few still believed that lions were born from stars, and died as stars. Eupe slowly turned them to pray to the goddess of Harvest, whom determined if they would have a good year or not.

Good years meant many births, plenty to hunt and good weather conditions. Bad years meant just the opposite, and it was much easier to live on.

Generations passed, until it was the time of Mng'ariza's generation. She did not stay in the pride; she decided a life of exploring would be better. It was the year the plague swept the lands. It had a devastating effect on the Kusini'Mwezi. At least 3/4ths of the pride was killed off, the others wandered. Only one remained faithful to the lands; Madakata, the great elder female.

Ari was destined to return to the lands, with her mate and family. Slowly she would reestablish the great pride, continue the lines of the Kusini.

Only few know of the rebirthed pride know the true history of the Kusini'mwezi. Most knowledge was lost with the last disbanding of the pride. Rumor has it, the 'keepers' of the Kuzimbi'mwitu (a pride of legend), guard over the history, and in troubled times will make their presence known.

FAQs regarding ranks

How does the Council choose who becomes a Rithi?
The Council will assess the litter at birth, and once old enough to eat on their own will go through a series of tests. The cub that ranks the highest will become heir.

OoCly, the owners will be given the option if they want their cub to become heir. If there are multiple players saying yes, a litter roll will happen to ultimately decide.

What happens if there is no royal litter born?
In the event the Mfalme and Malkia do not have a litter within an eighteen month period, a Rithi will be chosen from the litters born at the time.

What happens if a Rithi has cubs before they become Malkia/Mfalme?
In the event that a Rithi has cubs before their rule begins, those cubs will not be considered for Mfalme/Malkia. They will, however, be able to have the –ithi at the end of their rank.)

What happens if a Elder dies?
In the event of death of a Kijumbe or Mjumbe, the Ujumbe or Jumbe respectively will take over their spot immediately. A new apprentice will be selected through a process that has yet to be determined.

What happens if a Mshauri dies?
In the event of death of the Mshauri, the Mfalme and Malkia will select a new adviser.

What happens if a high-ranked character is inactive?
The ranks that are considered ‘high ranks’ and will require roleplay activity in order to maintain the position. If we see a position remaining inactive for over four (4) months, we reserve the right to remove that character from its position, and demote it to a default rank.

Can ranks be earned without required roleplays?
Yes! During the initial interest thread, all ranks will be available. This includes Mshauri, Elders, Apprentice, Msa, Poza and Wanakinga. The interest in these ranks will be compiled, and once the pride is close to becoming official will be announced who gets them. The reason for this is due to knowing how many pride members will be in the pride so we can better judge the number of positions available.

Ranks will still require roleplay activity once the pride is established.

The Kusini’mwezi has established a bi-yearly event involving around the Solstices.

During the winter solstice, Mafua-winda, literally translating to Cold Hunt, the Mwindaji compete to see who the best hunter of the pride is. The Msa can be included in this event. The event itself will involve a feast of the hunt. With the Kusini lands quite barren from the drought, this can be a difficult feat in the first few years until herd levels are established. There is a sign up event, and not all Mwindaji may be able to compete depending on herd levels.

How Mafua-winda works:
This is an ORP style event where players roll three – 10-sided die. There will be a list of herds predetermined that will match the number rolled. Within the herd will be weak (+1), moderate (+5) and strong (+10) prey. Based on your roll will be what herd your Mwindaji goes for (first die), what prey they attack (second die) and if their attack is successful (third die). All information will be provided at the start of the event, so the player will know how their hunt will conclude.

User Image
User Image

With this example: Player rolls a 7, which is the Zebra herd. Character is aiming for a weak (+1) prey, and they miss the attack. Player gets 0 points due to failed hunt.

Mwindajis may go for multiple prey, however this can only happen after their first round is role-played out. A post may include the entire scene, or it can be broken up into multiple posts (as long as the posts are not back to back).

At the end of Mafua-winda, those who did the best will earn bragging rights (possible other things to come). To become the best Mwindaji, your score will be tallied. Highest number wins. If a Msa is partaking in the event, they automatically get a +2 bonus to add to their final score.

This event ICly last a few hours. OoCly, the ORP will be open for one week.

User Image

During the summer solstice, Moto-vita, literally translating to Hot War, the Mpigani compete to see who the strongest warrior of the pride is. The Wanakinga may not participate in this event. However, at the end, the ‘strongest’ Mpigani has the ability to go up against the Wanakinga.

How Moto-Vita Works:
Mpiganis are paired up to duel. Players will then roll 3-six sided dice, and add the sum. If there are two of the same number, add 5 to your final total. If all three numbers are the same, add 7. In the event of a tie, a player will roll 1-20 die. The higher of the numbers wins.

User Image versus User Image (+5)

KasaiLoki wins! 14 to 18

The last Mpigani will have the opportunity if they choose to go up against the Wanakinga. Same rules apply, however the Wanakinga will start with a +2 bonus to add to their original total.
