__________Description
tab Talents are the techniques and abilities associated with various classes that require something outside of the understood curriculum to learn. This can be understanding gained through direct interaction with the natural world, through insight gained from experiencing the world in a specific way, or finding forbidden knowledge that no one has ever seen. It is through these methods and more than Talents are born, defined by the classes that use them. Below you will find, listed by class, the different, discovered Talents for each class, as well as a section for recipe Talents, those recipes that Artisans and other crafters learn, and talents that only certain classes can utilize effectively. While the Talent lists below may well be short, keep in mind that we do provide opportunity for members to creature techniques for guild use, and reward them for doing so, as described here. Description: This ability allows the Beastmaster to temporarily tame an animal to aid them in various endeavors. By using an amount of chakra equivalent to the creature’s rank, the Beastmaster may deliver a variety of requests to the animal they are attempting to communicate with. The number and complexity of requests is determined by the intelligence of the creature; a normal animal can handle one [1] simple request (such as fetching an item), whereas semi-sentient creatures can handle as many as three [3] complex requests (such as particular maneuvers or attacks, or following a set of directions). As it is a request, there is no guarantee the attempt will work. If an equivalent rank of chakra is used, the chances are [50%], and the chance either increases or decreases by [25%] per rank above or below the creature’s rank. The user must roll a four [4] sided die during the post the technique is used in; each number represents [25%]. This cannot be used on sentient or hostile creatures (though hostile creatures can be calmed).

Description: The most basic of abilities that every Medium possesses is the ability to perceive into the plane that all sprites, fades, and dead are able to exist in alongside our own. Called by many names, this plane isn’t perceptible in its entirety, as each type of Medium is able to perceive the entity with which they are attuned. This perception can be fought by spirits with their own techniques and abilities, but without that resistance, these entities will be seen in their true forms by the Medium.

Investiture

Requirement(s): Selection of a Focus
Description: This is the second of three core techniques the Mediums possess, and is the ability to convert a Focus into a host for a Shikigami. The medium selects their Focus’s nature, and shapes any item into a device they would like to have possessed. This can be a weapon, in which case the weapon takes on the characteristics of the entity they have summoned. It can be an armor, which follows the same rules. It can also be a Doll, which is formed from the Focus of the Medium, and when possessed takes on the physical parameters set by the Rank of the entity and the Shape of the Medium’s desire, after which it will will utilize the technique knowledge it possesses, and that of the Medium’s, to do battle. Once a Focus has been Invested, it remains a capable host for a Shikigami until the medium has removed the Investiture. At no time can a single Focus be invested more than once by normal means.

Burst Wave

Description: The Shikigami is surged full of their birth element, which is then released in one of two ways. It is either released in a cone-like effect before them, bursting forth at sixty [60] feet per experience rank in a sheer blast of that element. The other option is in a burst like effect around the Shikigami, unleashing a thirty foot [30] blast of the element to strike whatever is around it. Due to the nature of Sprites, the Shikigami may dissipate into their element from the blast and reform at the edge of the blast, allowing this technique to be used as a form of high-speed movement similar to Shunshin with Shinobi. In such a case, the defensive method must follow the same restrictions as Shunshin.

Celestial Motes

Description: The user creates two [1] motes per rank of this technique that float in a tight circle around the user. If an opponent comes within one [1] meter of the user, they are likely to be hit by these motes, dealing a D-rank amount of damage. Motes are destroyed if hit with a physical or spiritual attack, or if they collide with an opponent.

Nature's Tears

Description: The user creates a mote the color of the user's mana that can be picked up and consumed by someone else, restoring an amount of mana equal to the rank of this technique. Indiscriminate toward friend or foe. Mote can be interacted with as if it were a physical object, and is destroyed if hit with a physical or magical attack. Costs mana to create.

Nature's Vitae

Description: The user creates a white mote that can be picked up and consumed by someone else, restoring an amount of stamina equal to the rank of this technique. Indiscriminate toward friend or foe. Mote can be interacted with as if it were a physical object, and is destroyed if hit with a physical or magical attack. Costs stamina to create.

Description: Calls forth energy from spirits of nature to bless a single target. The affected target’s mana and stamina recovery increase by one [1] step for five [5] posts.

Shikigami

Requirement(s): A Focus that has been Invested
Description: The third, and arguably most fundamental of the three core Medium techniques, the Shikigami talent is the ritual in which the Medium calls forth an entity, decided upon by the path they selected upon reaching D - rank, into an invested Focus. The ritual itself is as individual as the Medium themselves, but follows some core concepts. The Dead require physical movements, and a form of scent to be called. A Sprite require an element of the sort assigned to it to be involved to call it. The final type, the Fades, require blood, flesh, and/or carrion to be involved in the ritual. The amount of time required to perform is likewise described in the D - ranked Disciplines of the Medium class. Once the rank of the entity is rolled, please contact a member of the Battle and NPC Moderation Team to determine the nature of the entity that is called.

Thrall of Protection

Description: Creates a mote that causes aggro and draws attention, making it more desirable to attack than the user. Is destroyed if hit with a physical or spiritual attack. Grants an aggro of [10] or increases the aggro by [5] toward itself. Can summon one [1] per experience rank.

Burst Summon

Requirement(s): Invested Focus, and a ritual
Description: The Shikigami Talent requires rituals to be performed for a Shikigami to be called into a Focus, but such things can be incredibly time consuming depending on the rank of the entity being called. If the Medium decides to forego some of the safety measures inherent in such rituals they may attempt a Burst Summon, rapidly screaming into the ether a demand for aid. When doing so, besides paying the cost of this technique, the Medium must expend one [1] Physical stat point that will be consumed in the summoning process. In such a case, the point cannot be returned until the Shikigami is dismissed, after which time the Medium must spend one [1] post per two [2] posts the Shikigami was in existence before the point is returned.

Homeward Bound

Requirement(s): Medium Class
Description: This technique is prepared in advance. The user chooses a claimed area they have visited as their ‘base’, leaving a physical marker of some sort there. They can then use this technique to return to that location at any time. They can also take allies with them, for an increased cost of one rank per accompanying ally. Targets must be willing. Takes one [1] full post to activate. If used during combat, opponents get a bonus activation to use against them. Can only have one [1] 'base' location at a time.

Snare

Description: The Medium calls upon their spiritual ally to snare an enemy, preventing them from moving from their snared location for one [1] post. The opponent feels as though something is wrapping around their ankles. They are unable to use instant transportation techniques [such as Flash Step] for three [3] posts following.

Description: Creates a mote that floats between allies, increasing the healing rate of allies within [5] meters of it by two [2] steps. Is destroyed if hit with a physical or magical attack. Can summon one [1] per experience rank.

Thrall of Vengeance

Description: Creates a mote that hovers near the user and fire a single D-rank mana bolt at each opponent within five meters of the user. It will continue to fire one bolt per post per opponent within the range until dismissed or destroyed. The mote cannot leave the user’s side and is destroyed if hit with a physical or magical attack. Can summon one [1] per two [2] experience ranks.

Requirement(s): Medium or Skald Class; Medium requires a simple or complex element spirit.
Description: Summons four massive mana bolts per post for three [3] posts that drop on opponents within a twenty [20] meter circle. Anyone impaled by these skewers becomes is considered to have Tier One Paralysis for two [2] posts, rather than taking physical damage. Effect stacks and timer resets if someone is hit by more than one.

Thrall of Wrath

Description: Creates a mote that flies at an enemy or group of enemies within fifteen [15] meters of the user and explodes in a three [3] meter radius burst of mana. Will stay by the user’s side until an opponent enters its range. Can summon one [1] per two [2] experience ranks.

Description: Summons a wraith to aid the user. It does not cause physical damage, but inflicts opponents it strikes with Wraith’s Curse, reducing physical speed and strength by a half rank for three posts and dealing two corruption damage. Requires an upkeep of half the original cost per post to maintain past the first, and can take up to C-rank damage. Explodes upon death, inflicting five corruption damage to opponents within three meters.

Description: This Oath activates if the user’s stamina pool is full. While full, the Oathkeeper and all allies within three [3] meters receive a D-rank Defensive bonus. This bonus has no scale, but ends once the user expends stamina.

None Left Behind

Description: One of the First Oaths, the Grim Ward is meant to protect one from what is to come, for it is the Oathkeeper who will stand between their charge and danger. Once the oath is spoken bonds of the user's chakra color will manifest upon their body, coating it in what later becomes an invisible shield around their forms. This aura grants a C - ranked Defense Bonus that bears a scale of two [2], making it unable to last long but remain effective during its existence. The Grim Ward, thanks to its status as a First Oath, can be used as a launching point for further oaths noted with the name title Grim, chaining together and stacking without overriding.

Description: Upon receiving healing from an ally, a protective barrier is cast on all allies within a five [5] meter radius. This barrier provides a D-rank Defense to all affected. The entire barrier has a scale of [5], and takes durability damage regardless of who is hit. The barrier is restored each time the Oathkeeper is healed. The Oathkeeper must have taken damage prior to being healed for the barrier to form, and intentional injury will not trigger the barrier.

Grand Challenge

Description: The user makes three called shots, claiming that they will strike those points on an opponent. Once the challenge is started, the user has three posts to hit all three called shots. If they are successful, or they defeat the opponent within that time, the user and their allies within ten meters receive a one rank increase to physical strength and speed, as well as a one rank increase to the effectiveness of healing techniques, for three posts. If the user fails the challenge, they lose one rank in physical strength and speed for three posts, and cannot initiate another challenge for the duration of the debuffs.

Description: The user chooses one ally with a physical touch. The user will then absorb damage the ally takes for three posts. The user’s defense bonus still applies to damage taken, and armor will take durability damage.

Requirement(s): Oathkeeper Class
Description: If an ally is felled--but not necessarily killed--, the user may issue a challenge to strike the opponent down in vengeance. For the duration of the fight, the user gains a one [1] rank increase to physical strength and speed against the target. However, once the target is defeated, the user is exhausted and loses one [1] rank of physical strength and speed until they rest.

Description: The user forms a permanent bond between themselves and an ally. Requires physical touch to form. If that ally takes a fatal blow, the user’s life is taken instead, and the ally is left undamaged. The user can form as many bonds as they desire, and the bonds can be broken by the ally at any time. Of course, if the user dies, all bonds are broken. This Oath does not prevent the user from performing other Rituals, and will not disappear if another Ritual is performed.

Battle Blessing

Requirement(s): Song of Resonance, movements or words associated with inspiring another or self
Description: The Battle Blessing is one of the fundamental “buff” performances a Skald may utilize. Allies designated by the Skald, beginning with two [2] and increasing by one [1] per Experience Rank, who hear the song immediately gain a bonus of one [1] point per every other Experience Rank to all four [4] of their stats, with the bonus, as an example, increasing to two [2] points at C - rank. By reducing the base duration to two [2] posts, and increasing the Upkeep cost by five [5], the Skald may add one of their known elements to their allies weapons, bestowing E - ranked elemental bonuses to their weapons as described by the Tier 3 Minor Properties under the Crafting system.

Description: Damnation’s Dirge is the introduction to the true capabilities of the powers of Dissonance and, by extension, the Affliction known as Corruption. This causes the targets to be struck by a negative of one [1] point per every other Experience Rank to all four [4] of their stats, with the negative, as an example, increasing to two [2] points at C - rank. Furthermore, by reducing the base duration to two [2] posts, and increasing the Upkeep cost by five [5], the Skald may give weight to their enemy’s movements, reducing their Dodge Defense by one-half rank.

If the bonds are enhanced with chakra, it requires a stamina cost of one rank higher. 2) [Complex] The second way is, if paid for the same way as a complex technique [half chakra, half stamina], this talent can be used to 'break' all inflicted physical debuffs [such as reduced speed or strength] and movement restrictions on the user. This takes a C-rank cost for the first debuff being removed, and an additional D-rank amount for each debuff after the first.

Description: Trackers find their marks by following trails that would be otherwise near invisible to the average person. But they are not born with the gift; it comes from practice and training. While any Tracker is capable of following a trail, those that focus on this training are able to do it faster and better. Each rank trained in this ability reduces the skill level needed to track creatures of equivalent rank by two [2] points. Likewise each rank of training reduces the number of posts required to track a creature of a rank by one [1] per rank. In other words, E-rank training gives a one [1] post reduction to E-rank creatures; D-rank training provides a one [1] post reduction to D-rank, and [2] to E-rank; etc. Training is done by, of course, tracking creatures of those ranks. Training must be repeated for each of the Tracker’s tracking skills (i.e. Normal Animals, Monsters, etc.). Receives no reductions to learning.

Description: The effect of this ability varies depending on the senses the Tracker has chosen to focus in. If their focus is in Sound, as an example, they will hear any conversation or sounds that have occurred; Sight will see ghost-like figures moving through the area, and what direction they were headed; Scent can be used to pick up an otherwise unnoticed scent trail; Taste is used in a similar fashion; Touch is unique in that you get a brief glimpse and accompanying sound of anyone who touched an object that they come in contact with, excluding the ground or walls.

Description: Firing or throwing a projectile with concentration allows the thrower to curve around an obstacle no more than eight [8] inches across to strike what is behind it, bypassing Defenses of appropriate size completely. Must be within thirty [30] meters of the intended target.

Startling Kick

Description: The user lashes out with a kick, staggering the opponent and causing them to lose one [1] activation in the following post. The user then leaps backward, putting distance between themselves and the opponent.

Description: A rapid movement that can be used to either increase the speed of the next move by a half [.5] rank, or reduce dodge cost by a half [.5] rank. This is done by quickly taking another step in the movement process, allowing for rapid change in direction, or a short, powerful burst of extra speed.

Flurry of Blows

Description: Increases the physical speed of attacks by a half [.5] rank per rank, in exchange for losing a half [.5] rank of physical strength per rank. This can be used up to the trained rank of the proficiency of the weapon the user is wielding. Lasts three [3] posts.

Description: A quick step forward, driving the user’s weapon into any opponents in front of them. If the opponent is not impaled, they are knocked backwards.

Description: The user unleashes a forward blast of energy, damaging and knocking back opponents within two meters per rank in front of them.

Description: Utilizing a handheld projectile, the character is able to cause an object to ricochet one [1] time up to a ninety degree change. Anyone hit by this, because of the unexpected angle, count their Dodge bonus as a half [.5] rank lower, or have their cost to dodge increased by a half [.5] rank if they do not have a Dodge bonus.

Description: Attack up to three times in a row. Can hit multiple opponents in front of user, and is considered one [1] rank higher in physical strength if the opponent is staggered.

Vortex Slash

Requirement(s): D-rank Proficiency in the weapon being used
Description: A spinning attack that, if used after an evasive or leaping attack, increases in physical strength by one [1] rank.

Name: Chained Collision

Requirement(s): B-rank in any Handheld Ranged Weapon Proficiency; Tier 2 Armorsmithing or Tailoring.
Description: Use of a pair of thrown items to strike the same location twice in near instantaneous timing. This causes any Defense being used to take a hit to their Durability, reducing it by an additional [4]. For purposes of defending against this attack the Defense it is interacting with is considered one [1] rank lower. Requires two projectiles of the relative same size and shape, and must be of the handheld variety. Senbon and needles do not work with this.

Distant Blade
Rank: X :: Complex [C to Learn]
Duration // Upkeep: Instantaneous
Requirement(s): C-rank Proficiency in the weapon being used
Description: The user charges their weapon with chakra and thrusts forward. The chakra releases upon the thrust’s peak, extending the blade by one [1] meter per rank to impale anything in front of them.

Flatten
Rank: X :: Complex [C to Learn]
Duration // Upkeep: Instantaneous
Requirement(s): C-rank Proficiency in the weapon being used
Description: Infusing their weapon with chakra, the user slams it into the ground, releasing the energy in a shockwave that staggers opponents within three [3] meters per rank. Staggered opponents lose one [1] activation on their following post.

Headlong Rush
Rank: C :: Simple

Requirement(s): Agility [5] or higher
Description: The user rushes forward, closing the distance between them and an opponent almost instantly. The next attack is increased in physical speed by one [1] rank.

Overhand Strike

Requirement(s): C-rank Proficiency in the weapon being used
Description: The user swings downward for a massive blow. This is increased in physical speed by one [1] rank if used directly after another melee attack.

Name: Owlshot
Rank: C :: Simple
Duration // Upkeep: [3] posts // [15] Chakra or Stamina
Requirement(s): B-rank in any Ranged Weapon Proficiency, [10] Foraging.
Description: Arrows fired during the duration of this technique make no sound when fired, making dodging more difficult. All dodge attempts act as one [1] rank lower in speed. Must be standing still and concentrating to utilize effect.

Pounce
Rank: X :: Simple [C to Learn]
Duration // Upkeep: Instantaneous
Requirement(s): C-rank Proficiency in the weapon being used
Description: The user jumps at a foe and slashes them, reducing their physical speed by a half [.5] rank for three [3] posts and reducing the physical damage taken by an attack directly after by one [1] rank.

Reckless Charge
Rank: Passive [C to Learn]
Duration // Upkeep: Lasts [2] posts
Requirement(s): Charge, Chained Strike, or Behind Enemy Lines learned.
Description: Reduces the duration of debuffs affecting physical speed by one [1], to a minimum of one [1]. Likewise, after using Charge, Chained Strike, and Behind Enemy Lines, physical speed is increased by a half [.5] rank for two [2] posts.

Whirlwind Slash
Rank: X :: Simple [C to Learn]
Duration // Upkeep: Instantaneous
Requirement(s): C-rank Proficiency in the weapon being used; Triple Slash learned
Description: A spinning attack up to three distinct strikes, designed to hit multiple opponents. Trips staggered opponents and shoves nearby enemies away from the user.
