Welcome to the Safari Zone! At the Safari Zone we have begun to hold capture contests! As the name implies it is a contest to see who can catch the biggest, rarest Pokemon out there! The contest is simple, in the Safari Zone you will find many different kinds of Pokemon, from all over the world in fact! We give participants three Safari Balls to use and attempt to capture the best Pokemon they can, or you can use any three Pokeballs of their own, if you do, we do not give you any Safari Balls. [You may use one of yours and two of ours and so forth. You are only allowed to use three Pokeballs total.] You are allowed to take just one of your own Pokemon into the park to use to weaken a wild Pokemon for capture, so don't let it get knocked out! Pokemon are judged on their quality, rarity, and how well the capture was roleplayed. So are you interested? Then sign up, take your Safari Balls, and hit the grass and find the best Pokemon you can!

Also, the Pokemon available is always different. The zone we'll be hunting in this time is the Barren Island Zone! An island off the coast of the main Alolan islands. This particularly island is so distant and isolated that humans have deemed it unfit to inhabit. The waters around it are treacherous and the land is incredibly craggy and poor, nothing grows here.

How to Participate:

The rules for the Safari Contest are simple. Pick one Pokemon to use in the contest, and when you post your character looking for a Pokemon use the random number generator to find out what Pokemon your character finds. Set the lowest number to 1 and the highest to 100 for the main area and 1 to 50 for the side areas. Once your post goes through, check to see what number you got, then, look at the list of available Pokemon, at the bottom of this post, to see what Pokemon appeared.

Then, in your next post once the Pokemon has been decided, begin battling it all in one post. But before you post your battle, use the Random Number generator again to see if the capture was successful, setting the lowest to 1 and the highest to 10, however, different Pokeballs have different success rates depending on what Pokemon or area you are using them on/in. Consult the list below to see what Pokeballs benefit this area.

----------

[Safari Ball] 50% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Pokeball] 50% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Great Ball] 60% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Ultra Ball] 70% Success Rate on any Pokemon.

[Net Ball] 70% Success Rate on Bug and Water type Pokemon, 50% on all others.

[Dive Ball] 70% Success Rate on Water type Pokemon, 50% on all others.

[Dusk Ball] 70% Success Rate on Pokemon found in caves, 50% on anything else.

[Nest Ball] 70% Success Rate if Pokemon is a lower stage than your own Pokemon.

[Repeat Ball] 70% Success Rate. Allows a fourth and final capture attempt after the previous three have failed.

[Quick Ball] 80% Success Rate on your first Pokemon encountered only, 50% on all consecutive.

[Timer Ball] 80% Success Rate if it's your last Pokeball only, 50% on any prior.

[Heal Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon if you failed to capture it once already, 50% if not.

[Luxury Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon that evolves with happiness.

[Fast Ball] 80% Success Rate on a fast Pokemon.

[Heavy Ball] 80% Success Rate on a heavy Pokemon.

[Level Ball] 80% Success Rate on a first stage Pokemon (Spearow, Stunfisk, etc.), 50% on all others.

[Love Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon with only a single gender, 50% on all others.

[Lure Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon fished out of the water.

[Friend Ball] 80% Success Rate on a Pokemon that evolves with happiness.

For success rates of 50%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

For success rates of 60%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

For success rates of 70%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

For success rates of 80%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

For success rates of 90%, you must receive one of the following numbers from the Random Number generator to capture the Pokemon: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

----------

As long as you still have Pokeballs you may continue to hunt and capture Pokemon until you get one you are comfortable with. If you catch a Pokemon, but then choose to catch another, you must release the first Pokemon you caught before keeping the second. Once you run out of Pokeballs your time is up and the Pokemon you last caught will be the one judged.

When everyone is done (a specified time will be given when the contest will end, regardless if others are done) all Pokemon caught will be judged. Each Pokemon will be judged individually in separate posts where a random number will be used to judge their quality, between 1 and 5 and the number it lands on will be its quality. The other stat taken into consideration is the Pokemon's rarity, its species. A rather common Pokemon like Spearow won't give as much points as a Pokemon like Froakie would give much more. However, with quality, a Spearow could beat out a Froakie.

Contestant Prizes:

Prizes will be given out to the top three contestants, as well as a consolation prize to those who don't make the top three. All participants get to keep the Pokemon they caught. The first place contestant may choose to get a Snag Emblem or additional Snag Coins apart from the normal prize.

1st place prize: 15 Snag Coins and one Snag Emblem OR 25 Snag Coins!

2nd place prize: 15 Snag Coins

3rd place prize: 10 Snag Coins

All participants who did not place receive 5 Snag Coins as a consolation prize as well as their captured Pokemon. Snag Coins can be spent in the Snag Mall.

Also, if you use a Pokemon that's not fully evolved that Pokemon will earn Evolution Points/Mission Points at the end of the contest depending on how many Pokemon it knocked out. For Evolution Points your Pokemon gains 0.20 points for first stage (Caterpie), 0.40 points for second stage (Metapod), 0.45 points for base (Tauros), and 0.60 points for third stage (Butterfree). For Mission Points you must battle at least five Pokemon to gain one mission point, including a successful capture. If not catching anything then it's seven battles. You can also gain Purification Points in the same way as Evolution Points. Don't worry, the Safari Zone is protected by an Immunizer so no virus spreading here! Evolution/Purification Points will be rounded up at the end and we ask you post how many points you accrued in your final post. Bonus points (Evolution, Purification, or Mission Points) will be rewarded to all participants at the end based on how much effort and content went into your posts. You may lose points if your battles were one liners or just in general lacked any effort.

And that's it! Get out there and have fun!

Stepping inside the Safari Zone with Genevieve's Pokeball in hand, Lykas registered himself and his partner for participation, received his capture pods and headed out. He'd seen a shoreline inside the area from outside and figured he'd try his hand at fishing out there and see if he could find any new Water-types.

He found a comfortable spot to sit and cast a line out into the water, tossing a small Will-o-Wisp out to hover above his hook as a sort of lure to help attract fish to the small, flickering light.

When his hook suddenly gained nearly 80 pounds and he could hardly even reel it in, he ended up sending Genevieve out to help him retrieve whatever he'd hooked. The Dewpider walked out onto the water's surface and dove in. It took a few minutes for him to return but when he did, he was dragging a Slowpoke behind him in a Spider Web net.

"Huh... Interesting." Lykas sighed. Even if he tried to battle it, Slowpoke were notoriously stupid so how much good would it really do him? Slowpoke wouldn't even realize that it was being attacked.

"Well, I guess enjoy a snack while I keep fishing?" He told Genevieve. The spider nodded and quickly sank it's fangs into the Slowpoke's tail, sucking the sweet, nectar-like substance that oozed from the salamander's tail while Lykas continued fishing for something else. Slowpoke didn't even seem to notice, though.

With Genevieve sucking the life out of a Slowpoke, Lykas had cast his line back into the water. It took several minutes for another bite to become apparent but when it did, Lykas was able to reel it in this time with much less trouble. When the Pokemon on his hook breached the water's surface, though, it caused the hybrid to laugh. "I already have one of you on my team and I really don't feel like raising another one." He told the Magikarp as he reeled it it and removed the hook from it's mouth. The carp didn't seem to have any desire to leave, though, remaining close to shore and pestering him with it's incessant "Karp karp karp!" and useless Splashing until he became fed up with it.

"Genevieve, use Liquidation and knock it back into deeper water." Lykas instructed his water spider.

"Dew dewpiii!" Genevieve agreed as it released Slowpoke's tail. What he hadn't noticed while sucking the dopey Pokemon's candy-flavored appendage, was it's near continuous use of Slack Off. It was no wonder it didn't seem to be losing any of it's "zest" for life. When Genevieve slammed a water-coated body into Margikarp and sent it skipping across the water's surface, the carp came back a moment later and received a burst of healing energy from Slowpoke via Heal Pulse.

Magikarp wasn't particularly strong but it still managed to Tackle Genevieve as payback for it's unrepentant body slam a moment before. "Use Infestation this time." Lykas directed as he cast his line back into the water, further away from the battle going on beside him. Genevieve nodded and spawned countless tiny spiders from the water bubble on his head. The tiny watery arachnids crawled towards both Magikarp and Slowpoke, biting at them both repeatedly. It might not be very strong but the damage would add up rather quickly. Before too long, the pair ended up collapsing from failure to even notice how badly their energy was being drained by the tiny army.

"Took 'em long enough..." Lykas commented to himself.

Arkelos enters the main island. "Well Rockruff, i guess this is where it all starts. Let's do our best and see if we can't find a new friends to join the family." Rockruff lets out a bark with agreement.

Seconds later, a pokemon comes jumping out at them.

Tristen arrived at the Safari Zone and made his way off to the darkened cavern. The boy would light up his crests to light the way then pulled out a Pokeball. He was about to send out one of his stronger Pokemon, something that had a bit of endurance to take on whatever crazy Pokemon that may come his way. A realization then occurred to him...some Pokemon still needed training. The boy stashed the ball then brought out another one. "Litten! come on out!" The boy called out. The ball pops open and out comes the fire kitten ready to tag along.

"Hey there, Litten. How's it going? We're going to go exploring a bit and see what we can find, okay?"

"Mewwor?" The Litten mewed out, looking about what was around him. A dark, dry cavern with...who knows what was deep in there.

A realization then hit Tristen... "Then again...maybe I should get Eevee out?" The boy was a little conflicted now. "I mean, apart from a whole buncha Zubat, caves like to hold a lot of ground and rock types...I really don't want to get you hurt really badly. Especially if you can't fight something like a Geodude or a Onix or something like that, you know?"

Tristen looked back down towards his Litten and stared in confusion; in the midst of his monologue/realization, Litten got itself comfortable, curled up right in the middle of the path before him, and was drifting off to sleep. Typical cat. "Litten!" The cat jumped a bit, stared a bit frustratingly at Tristen, then stood back up and stretched.

"Come on." Tristen said, walking off. The Litten would follow suit, albeit with slight reluctance.

Going deeper into the cavern, the boy would find that it would open up rather vastly, and made his natural light a little bit on the useless side. The light from the crests was being swallowed up by the darkness beyond several feet from him. "...this is Challenger's cave all over again. Please Cobalion not be here."

"Rowwr?"

"Long time ago." Tristen said. A cold chill came about him just merely remembering such what could be said as a traumatic time. "Come on, let's go over here." Tristen said, leading the way, but he couldn't go a couple of steps until he smelled something...pretty freakin' foul. "Ugh, what is that? Is there a Skunky here? Ugh..." The boy ended up covering his nose, which accomplished nothing. The heightened canine smell was really making the boy rather miserable.

"Nyaaah!" Tristen looked over towards his howling Litten, which he couldn't see right away. The Litten hopped backwards towards Tristen's light, hunched over and not caring for what was approaching. Within view, the boy finally saw the source of the smell...the living mushroom that was a Foongus.

"That could do it too..." Tristen said.

The Foongus hopped over and latched onto the Litten and started to drain the Litten of the energy...though it looks to be slower than what the Foongus apparently cares to. Typing is a pain at times. "Its trying to use Absorb on you! Get it off!" The Litten was already ahead of its trainer's sentiment, shook and managed to get out of the Foongus' grip, stepping back a couple of steps, looking agitated.

"Litten! Use Ember!" Tristen shouted. He didn't want to chance Litten's Fire Fang attack on this thing. Although stronger, he remember one of this fungus's traits, something he didn't want Litten to get caught up in so soon. The cat, regardless, complied with the order, firing off a slew of embers down upon the Foongus, causing considerable damage to it. The Foongus then shouted out in a frenzy and started slapping the cat some, making Litten back up. That said, it didn't look like it cause much other than a bit of surprise.

"That looked like an Astonish attack...I don't think this Foongus can do that much to you, Litten! How about another Ember attack!" The boy shouted. The Litten retaliated with more searing flames that overwhelmed the grass type and finally put it down for the count. Tristen made his way over towards the fallen Foongus and stared at it in confusion for a bit. "Didn't expect this little guy to be in here."

"Mrrrowr?" The Litten spoke up. The cat took another whiff of the Foongus and winced, backing away, then walked off.

"More like that battle, please..." The boy then said, looking around. Though he feared for his luck during his time in this cavern.

As Tristen and Litten made their way through the cavern, they moved around stalagmites and boulders, being mindful about where they stepped. So far, no rock Pokemon, which was fine by the kid, no massive swarms of Zubat either...didn't have any repels. Probably a good thing too. They smelled really bad.

Off in the darkness, Tristen took notice to something. It glowed a blue and yellow in the darkness, leaving the boy confused as to what it was. It was small though...so couldn't be THAT bad...could it? Though it wasn't coming in his direction. Even better. That said, the boy's curiosity was starting to get the better of him...what did that in a cave of all places? Tristen carefully moved forward; he was sure that whatever it was already had seen him because of his own light, but who knows...maybe it's something natural in the cave?

The boy would find, yes, it was natural...but it wasn't part of the cave. Floating there on magnetic currents was a Tynamo of all things. "Oh...wow...I didn't even know those things could do that!" Tristen said. That said, the Tynamo didn't care to be disturbed. "Uh...sorry?" The Tynamo sparked and rammed into Tristen...though...it...did nothing...other than give Tristen a jolt of energy. "Was...that a Spark attack?" Again, the Tynamo attacked Tristen...this was funny...yet, kind of sad. This Tynamo couldn't get by Tristen's natural lightningrod capabilities. "Um...Litten?" Tristen spoke up. "How about battle-" Another tenacious spark attack...amounted to nothing...yet another one...and another one... "...this Tynamo." And yet another one. "OK STOP!" Tristen shouted at the Tynamo, his voice echoing hard throughout the cavern.

The Tynamo went wide-eyed and 'swam' through the magnetic currents, rushing off for cover and into hiding. "Never mind..."

That was weird...

With her Safari Balls claimed and Audrey let out of her ball, Keiko ran off to add a new friend to her team!

Keiko stood in shock at the very first Pokemon she encountered. The Turtonator stood taller than even I did. It wasn't cute like she wanted, but there was no way something like that wouldn't win the contest for her if she caught it!

"Audrey, be careful, okay! I'm counting on you," Keiko said, getting a confident "Di!" from her Audino.

Turtonator wasn't having any of that tiny pink blob's crap, however, and blasted it with Dragon Pulse, sending Audrey back a few feet. Keiko was concerned, but Audrey got back up quick. "Misty Terrain, Audrey!" she shouted, not wanting to deal with any more powerful Dragon-type blasts.

Audrey cheered, and filled the area with Fairy-type energy. Turtonator wouldn't be harmed by this, but could feel the energy constricting him somewhat. Deciding to change tactics, Turtonator belched out a thick Smog, hoping to push away the Fairy-type energy The smog flew outwards around the Turtonator, eventually reaching Keiko and Audrey, who have to cover their mouths and noses to avoid inhaling the noxious fumes.

Fortunately, the Turtonator put a bit too much emphasis on his attack, and the Smog passed as quickly as it came. Because of that, it had little effect on the Misty Terrain, as well.

Keiko covered her ears. "Use Hyper Voice to take it down!" she shouted. She then braced herself as Audrey sang at the top of her lungs, imbuing her voice with a heaping helping of Normal-type energy.

Turtonator, not one to be showed up, met Audrey's attack with a Hyper Voice of his own, making hit hard for Keiko to block out enough of the sound to avoid ear damage. She manages... barely.

"Use Dig," Keiko manages to say, rubbing her ears a bit.

Audrey delves into the earth, disappearing from sight while Turtonator lifts an orb of Fire-type energy above its head. The surrounding area warms up considerably as a result.

By the time Audrey leaps out of the ground and deals damage to Turtonator, it's ready for her, and blasts her away with Overheat, blasting her a good distance away. Audrey lands next to Keiko, and while she does get back up, she has a bit of trouble doing so. "I'm sorry, I didn't think it'd be this strong! Are you okay, Audrey?"

"Audi," Audrey says, determined to keep fighting. She didn't expect to find something this strong, either, but she knew she was the only Pokemon Keiko was allowed to use right now and she didn't want to leave her trainer high and dry.

Keiko took a step back and activated her SNAG's Pokedex feature, scanning Turtonator. This was unusual for her but with all of Turtonator's power, the more of the guesswork she got rid of, the better chance she had of catching Turtonator.

"Okay, use Laser Focus for now. According to GRAY, its weakness is in it's stomach, so you'll have to find a way to attack there. We may have to use Dig again, but Turtonator will be expecting it, so be careful." Keiko whispered. Audrey nodded and focused on Turtonator. The Fire/Dragon type responded by slamming its fist into its shell and being rushed by Normal-type energy. It was using Shell Smash.

Audrey dug into the ground quickly, but not fast enough for Turtonator to not notice. It responded by gathering Steel-type energy unto itself and using Iron Defense to make up for the loss of it caused by Shell Smash. It wasn't enough, however, as Audrey leapt up from behind, slamming its belly with Ground-type energy. This knocked it back, giving Keiko time to throw a Safari Ball at it before it could retaliate.

The ball burst almost immediately. Turtonator still had plenty of energy left. Audrey, however...

"I'm sorry, Audrey, but I need to rely on you for now," Keiko said, worried at how much more her Audino could take. Audrey responded excitedly. She wasn't done, yet, either.

Turtonator was done playing around, however, and gathered Dragon-type energy into a huge orb. Audrey was quicker, though, and lunged at Turtonator as it launched Draco Meteor. Audrey landed on Turtonator before Draco Meteor hit the ground, Drain Punch-first. The resulting energy gained helped in resisting what damage she took from Draco Meteor atop Turtonator's shell.

Audino wasn't done leeching off the Dragon, however, and planted a Draining Kiss on its shell before leaping off. Now, Audrey could keep fighting. But Turtonator wasn't about to let Audrey get away scott free and leapt over her as she tried to get away. It then imbued its shell with Normal-type energy and landed a Body Slam on her.

Keiko quickly threw another Safari Ball at Turtonator, giving Audrey a chance to get out from in under it.
