spaceByron was not especially thrilled regarding his betrothal. Despite his parents insistence, he failed to see how Giselle Scarlet could possibly be a decent match for him. But, it wasn't in his power to argue over it, and he'd be damned if he caused as much trouble for his parents as his eldest cousin had for hers. He'd just have to grit his teeth and bear it. At least he'd known something like this was coming, though he'd assumed (apparently incorrectly) that his father would be more discerning. Apparently, he'd been mistaken. But not more mistaken than his brother, who didn't seem to realize he was being set up as well. Since he wasn't heir, it wasn't technically necessary for him to be betrothed, after all. But Byron had to snort at the notion that their father would miss an opportunity to be a controlling git. There were two families being invited to dinner, and if the Scarlets were here for his own betrothal, it stood to reason that the Blodwens were here for Blair. Byron might feel sorry for his brother, if not for the fact that he thought he was an idiot for not seeing it coming. Byron hadn't bothered to point it out. He wasn't feeling very charitable, or brotherly, at the moment. See if he figured it out when Father drug him down to greet the Blodwens.
spaceHe followed his mother down the halls, expression carefully blank. Just because he wasn't happy to be stuck with the girl didn't mean he had to let it on. Especially not at dinner. He wasn't an idiot. As they entered the parlor, he had to fight to keep the neutral expression; there were far too many people here. Why wasn't it just Giselle and her parents? He was willing to bet this was his mother's doing; she'd probably invited the whole bloody clan. "Oh, certainly, do please bring every single one of your second-cousins-twice-removed." That was certainly the sort of thing she'd do.
space"We're so happy you could make it," Blodwyn greeted cheerfully, approaching a man who Byron assumed was Giselle's father. She offered him her hand, a quick look at her son reminding him that he should do so as well. "We haven't been formally introduced, I don't think. Blodwyn Lockwood."
spaceByron stood stiffly beside his mother, waiting for the older man to shake his hand. When the time came, he was careful to have a firm, respectable grip, and managed a perfectly proper tone when he introduced himself. "Byron Lockwood, sir." He wasn't sure if he was expected to introduce himself to everyone else or not, so he simply stood beside his mother and waited for further introductions. Hopefully they could head to the dining room soon; standing about like this felt awkward, and he already hated every second of it. Plus, the sooner they ate, the sooner the betrothals were announced, and the sooner the whole stupid thing was over. The dinner, anyway.
