Nyimak often found herselves by the proving grounds when she wasn't hunting for the pride; she enjoyed a good fight, and particularly enjoyed winning. So it was, this day, the dark red lioness turned her fiery gaze onto that of a stranger. . . . And a male at that. Her eyes narrowed at the rogue, who was pale of coat, but with a fire kissed mane. She didn't know who he was, but that didn't matter to her. He wanted to fight, and she would serve her pride well by showing them the strength of the Firekin.
Roaring loudly back, the female strode purposefully over to the stranger. She didn't care about his name, didn't care about his history, didn't care about anything except the fight. Without pausing, without hesitation, the lioness pounced, throwing a swipe at the male who had come to fight the Firekin. He would remember this day, if she had her way -- and Nyimake always made sure she got what she wanted. Words could wait -- what mattered now was only the fight.

The lioness was glad that the white coated male didn't seem to hesitate or flinch. In fact, the stranger landed a hit on her, even as she had taken her first swipe! But it was his second attack that had her dodging well out of the way. No, she wasn't going down so easily. She growled, baring her fangs, before she went to take another swipe.
"Gotta be faster than that, stranger!" It was almost a taunt.
It wasn't that Nyimak felt herself superior, no, she just . . . She always felt she had something to prove. And at least in the dueling grounds, whether she won or lost, she could try to prove that he wasn't just another female of the pride. That she was strong, that she was capable, that she wouldn't be overlooked or torn down. Having been raised in a large family meant sharing the limelight -- and that wasn't something this lioness liked to do. At least in a duel, it was just two of them.

The lioness gave a snort when the stranger compared her to others of the pride. A small part of her was chuffed that she was landing as many hits on the stranger as she had been -- she knew she had to keep herself from growing arrogant. The tide of battle could change in an instant, even with the odds in her favor. Who knew what tricks this white coated lion held hidden in that mane of his?
"You'll have to battle them and find out," she told the lion, watching him retreat a moment. She wasn't going to admit that there were some firekin that made her look small in comparison; she hated to lose, hated to be looked down by anyone or anything. She had pride -- too much pride, really -- but another part of her wanted this lion to remember her. The lionesses of the pride were just as fierce as the males! Perhaps this white lion would rue the day he asked to duel a demon.
Nyimak's ears were pricked back, and she carried on the offense. She wasn't going to go easy -- he wanted to fight the Firekin, he would make sure it was a fight to remember. He charged, and thankfully missed; but whirling around, hoping to catch the lion's back legs or flank, Nyimak found that her attack fell short. Her swipe took her no where near the stranger -- damn! - - -

"Please," she growled, "Maybe you should spend less time talking, and more time landing those hits. Then you can find out!"
Just. Like. That. The lioness hadn't expected the stranger to make a grab for her leg. His play was a success, and the lioness wasn't quite able to dance out of the way. Though she did wind up stumbling, she lashed out with another paw, hoping to swat the male away, and give her time to roll back to her feet. She wasn't going down easily!
The pale coated stranger had started off a bit clumsily, but Nyimak did feel power behind the blows he was landing. Though she wouldn't say it, for being an outsider, he certainly had a hardy spirit and physical strength. But that drove the lioness to want to push even more -- was this all he had? Or would he surprise her?

Nyimak went to take another swipe at the challenger, but he rolled over and lifted his paws in defeat. She pulled her paw back, instead, and gave a small snort as the stranger slowly rolled to his feet.
He hadn't been the worst. . . . but he hadn't been the best she'd ever fought, either. Honestly, as far as she was concerned, he had a long way to go. But why shouldn't he? Not just anyone could come run with the Firekin, after all, and Nyimak was no slouch lioness! She couldn't help but be pleased that she had won this day, and she even allowed herself a rare smile at his ridiculous words.
"I wait for no one, ghost." She gave a flick of her tail, before proudly sauntering away. Ah, but before she got too far, she did call out, "I look forward to besting you again." Not that she'd wiped the floor with him -- he had landed a few hits on her -- but she wasn't going to let him go that easy. If anything, she wanted to get a rise out of him for next time. She wanted to know he had a real fighters spirit -- or was today as good as she'd get?
Ah well. It didn't really matter. She didn't need to know his name, didn't really care. He was nothing to her. Just another opponent, and one she had rightfully bested. She knew some of his tactics, and would be more prepared when and if he returned.
