Nyimak was rarely far from the dueling grounds, or so she told herself. It wasn't because she was waiting to see that desert ghost again -- it was because if she wasn't hunting or otherwise preoccupied in the pride, she was looking for a fight! At least, that was the story... The stranger she had bested days prior had yet to make an appearance. In fact, she was just beginning to think him weak, and even perhaps a coward, when she heard his roar of challenge.
Quickly, the lioness got to her paws, and roared back. She was going to best this stranger again. She was going to make sure he knew what it took to be a true firekin. At least he had a thirst for battle -- even if she took off points for him waiting a few days to return.
Similarly, the lioness didn't hesitate. She pounced without a word, ready to begin. Unfortunately, her pounce landed her a bit short, so her swipe barely touched the lion. Well. Maybe she could save that -- surely, he would know she meant to do that. Yes. Clearly.
"You came back, ghost." It was hard to tell if she was pleased or disappointed.

Perhaps it was the near-swipe at her rump that threw off her stance; or maybe it was the white lion's insinuation that she had missed him, or even thought about him since their last encounter. The lioness bared her fangs in displeasure. "Please. Your last battle was hardly memorable. I'm almost disappointed you returned -- I wanted a real challenge." She huffed in irritation, and took another swipe at the lion as he passed.
Unfortunately, her aim was off, and her wipe meant she caught nothing but air. Still, the lioness had her pride. The duel was early yet, and neither one of them had managed a direct hit. Still, the lioness had to be on her guard. There was no telling what he'd do, and if she didn't step up her own game, she knew she this desert ghost would get the best of her.

Nyimak was frustrated as the fight wore on. She glared at the stranger who was sporting a smile, and watched as he put some distance between them. With her hackles raised, and a snarl on her face, the red lioness considered her options. She began to pace around the stranger, debating on whether or not she rushed in, and if so, did she swipe high, swipe low, or use her teeth.
On the one paw, the lion seemed determined to get into the pride. The fact that he was ready to battle after being defeated a few days prior was good. The Firekin were strong, and needed capable lions. On the other paw, she wasn't ready to just roll over and let this one in. No, he needed to prove himself to her and to the rest of the pride.
Nyimak wasn't known to go easy on others -- not even ghosts from the desert. With a snarl, she pounced, reaching out with her paw to land a solid swipe on the male! Ha! "This fight's not over yet, ghost!"

He liked it when she spoke, of course her words were hardly followed by anything pleasant. If anything her finally speaking saw him take a firm hit across his head. Though this sent him back a set or two, reeling, a little dazed, he managed to return a swipe. His paw felt her fur but he certainly didn’t land a hard hit.
“Right now I wish I was a ghost, then that hit wouldn’t have stung as much.” He grinned broadly, he wasn’t upset that he was being beaten, again, by this female. She was strong, powerful, worth his attention. Even if he didn’t manage to gain entry this time he would keep coming back to at least see this bewitching female.
And maybe he would learn from his mistakes and fight her to win. He took a careful step backwards, putting just a little distance between them, he could sense the end of this fight was nearing he just had to land one really good hit. He could still win this..maybe..

The lionesses had braced herself for a hit -- she knew she had put herself in danger by her misplaced pounce -- and yet it didn't come! In fact, the lion seemed to hold back, or perhaps he had missed his own hit! Whirling on him, she reached out to give him one last swipe -- though she purposefully pulled her paw back so it too might only grace the ghost who had failed once more.
Though it had not been her best battle, she had still bested the stranger. She gave a flick of her tail and a snort. She wanted to give some biting response, but she was too disappointed. Though she was a victor, she knew well that she'd given him some openings he hadn't been able to take advantage of. "Brush up on your form, Ghost." It was almost an order, a gruff command.
If he wanted in, she needed more to work with. So it was, she turned her back, and began to pace away.
