High Reaches
Physical Description:
Standing straight at 5’10”, Rivarri’s solid build and square shoulders play well to her craft. Though she’s more lean than purely bulk, if she’s standing in a doorway others will be hard pressed to walk around without getting her attention. She shaves the sides of her head to a close buzz, but leaves the center section long and braided down her back. Practical, her light brown hair is out of the way while she works and is cooler in the warmer weather. Rivarri’s eagerness while training during her apprenticeship rewarded her forearms with little white scars. Not disfiguring, they catch the eye when light hits them just right. Like the color of her eyes, Rivarri prefers to wear brown leather with maybe a splash of color in a tunic (mainly blue) under her working attire. She spends most of her time in her leather and metal crafting kit though takes off the heavier pieces when she needs to step out in the town.
Personality:
When Rivarri is bitten with the creative bug there’s not much that can stop her. She can take a scrap of metal or a piece of material and model it into something she finds pleasing or practical. Much like her father, she’s good at making tools and machinery. However, she doesn’t craft for the betterment of knowledge, but makes what she enjoys. Though her father doesn’t outright say it, her attitude in regards to smithcrafting-where neatness always counts-comes across as selfish where she thinks neatness only counts when it matters. Rivarri’s stubbornness as a child in regards to following the master’s instructions has contributed to her getting into trouble early in her training. If she thinks of a way to do the project a different way which in her eyes is better, she’ll do it. She learns by doing and though she’s earned some scars for her failures early on, she tends to not make the same mistake twice.
Rivarri isn’t completely inflexible, she’ll listen to reason (that makes sense to her) and can be swayed. However there isn’t much that can be salvaged from people that have burned her. Rivarri can be quick to judge, but not many people make it on her “bad list” that don’t belong there. She enjoys her friends and will create just about anything they ask because it makes her feel good to help them. Overall she’s easy going and willing to discuss cool, new things with strangers.
Positive Trait List: Artistic, Intuitive, and Easy Going
Negative Trait List: Judgmental, can hold a grudge, and selfish.
History:
Born in Telgar Hold, Rivarri took after her father and joined the smithcraft as an apprentice when she was a child. Her mother, a woman with an eye for jewels, would trade for the best gems and have Rivarri’s father craft simple jewelry pieces they would sell or barter with in the market. Though the family made decent money crafting jewelry, the main source of income came from her father’s skill in fixing or replacing old, broken machinery.
Rivarri’s parents both had a hand in her education as a young child, teaching her things along the way. If she didn’t disrupt his work, Rivarri’s father allowed her to sit with him while he worked and she would go with her mother to trade with the minecrafter’s for their gems. When she was of an appropriate age, her parents sent her to start the smithcrafting apprenticeship. It was a rocky start with following the instructor’s instructions. Having come from a family where she was exposed to her craft growing up Rivarri would jump ahead and tackle problems her own way. She butted heads a few times, not because she didn’t respect authority, but there’s no point wasting time when she already has a solution.
Though she really enjoyed making jewelry and trinkets like her parents, she had little patience for things that didn’t fall within her interest. Her time training in the hold was coming to a close with the possible added responsibility of journeywoman on the horizon. In her moment of career path indecision a dragonrider visited her little workshop. He spoke of High Reaches and how his dragon sensed she’d make a good candidate. Rivarri never considered becoming a candidate and fighting the thread. Regardless she saw the threads devastating effects in her Hold over the past couple years. The people weren’t prepared when the thread returned and though she didn’t know anybody directly that passed, the effects ripped through the hold. Her parents were worried, craftsmen and women stretched thin, maybe her talents would be better suited in fighting the thread than focusing on smithcrafting. So she accepted M’aze’s proposal and hopped on Zeath, headed to a possible new adventure in High Reaches.
