Shadowy Celebrant

PostPosted: Mon Nov 19, 2018 4:58 pm
Name: Seren
Age: 19
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Demisexual -- needs an emotional connectyion beyond a casual greeting to ever wanna date, let alone get pants feelin's.
Craft: Carpentry and Baking actually, but nothing associated firmly with the formal halls
Rank: None; she never associated with a Hall, however her skills are enough to come between Beginner and Journeyman
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description: For a female, Seren is tall, with short cut wavy mouse-brown hair, sharp dark green eyes, and a big bone structure -- even slightly chubby. The girl is tan but fair skinned -- if she's not outside often she fades into a pale color and then seems to tyake ages to turn tan again. Seren dresses in men's clothing for comfort, as she finds dresses and things too delicate and easy to mess up, plus men's clothes, especially pants, are too comfy to consuider trading for something silly like dresses... Unless there's a formal event, in which case she dresses to the feminine nines for her adoptive father's sake.
Personality:
Seren is laid back, cheery, and generally that one person who seems to have their s**t together on the surface. Her shoulder is open for people who need it to cry on, and she's all too happy to reach out to people in need of comfort, in order to offer solace and companionship. Although she's much preferentiual towards working with baking or carpentry, she's happy with anything letting her use her hands and often pitches in to ensure others get chores done. Seren tries to be helpful, useful, abnd valued, and is a fiercely loyal child to her adoptive father, seeming to be aiming to be a model child.

Which makes it a surprise when her facade breaks open and she falls apart. Seren needs assurances new people in her life won't leave and is deathly afraid of disappointing others. Fighting frightens her and she's quick to put her needs last, often to her own detriment and her father's worry. She's prone to overthinking, pessimism, and stressing easily, and when plans fall apart she loses half of her ability to cope wel. She can then become a snippish sort, lashing out at anyone she lacks deep emotional bonds with until she's soothed, and will usually try to assure herself others still love and value her by seeking comfort until she's okay again.
Positive Trait List Compassionate, loyal, Helpful, Well Behaved
Negative Trait List Paranoid, Overthinker, Pessimistic, Easily frazzled
History: Seren wasn't planned for.

Technically she was born to two poor folks when a chance meeting resulted in Seren's mother becoming pregnant young, and when her father cut town on it, her morgwe was left to handle a child alone. She managed until Seren was five -- and Seren's first and only memory of her mother that was more than snippets was being left to be the problem of some other soul -- and the child was taught by a Harper passing by at the Harper Hall out of pity; or, perhaps, it was so she didn't simply die. Regardless she didn't have a home per se either. Whenever learning finished she was left to roam and seek scraps, given what the kinder folk could offer. When she was but a youth of six turns, she was given some small fortune. A passing rogue rider, G'ralk, happened upon the child with his blue dragon, and was touched watching her begging him for scraps to eat -- not even any marks. While a rogue life was his at the time, G'ral couldn't leave the child to risk starvation or death or being forced into a life she may not choose.

So, Seren was taken in by a rogue rider, and raised along with his own child as his own. While not wealthy, G'ral was a good and kind father, a father whom taught his children to read, to write, to live as besty able by being strong and kind to others. He took as many jobs as he could to keep Seren and her sibling fed, clothed, warm, and safe and cared for. They never could have much, only what G'ral's blue dragon could carry, but they were happy and a family. When the children were 14, G'ral watched as his children soon earned the long gazes of his blue, and took them to Western Weyr to be Searched, just in case. When the girls were taken as Candidates, Seren's family seemed only to grow -- or at least she stayed happy, eager to meet othrs, and tell them wonderful stories, much as her father once told to her many times before she slept.
Other: Anything else you want to add?
Seren loves to work with her hands. While working with wood or baking are her best trained skills, she's happy if she can get her hands in something -- doesn't matter what it is.

Seren is the younger of G'ral's two kids but the only adopted one. She identifies her adoptive family as 'real' though and couldn't point her biological family out if they walked by her.

Seren loves pranks but is exceedingly careful not to prank authority unless given the go-ahead by said authority, and never puts people in actual danger. She'd rather see people make faces than bleed.

Seren has helped her father bathe and oil his dragon, actually. It used to be a family activity!

Candidate Specific Questions
Do you want them to have an official Search RP? Yes or No
Do you understand they will age every passing year regardless if you're there to RP the or not? Yes
Do you want them to have a possible Stands Impression? No
- - - > Please keep in mind that Stands Impressions are very rare. This means that not everybody will get an opportunity to have a surprise Impression, and you lower your chances of being picked by a dragonet. Given the character is not ICly an official Candidate, they will need a reason to be at the Weyr of their choice long-term, or at least for every Hatching.

To be honest, the sort of issues you're describing don't match well with Candidacy. This is literally a military operation and they need people who can handle confrontation, stress, things not going to plan, working under pressure, etc. While there's some flexibility, and they can be taught, this is a little extreme to me? Everything else about her personality works well for the role, this part just really doesn't.

Copied from her father's page: I also noticed that you'd stated he took them to the Weyr for proper Searching, but that's not how Search works - Candidates are either found on a Search, aka the dragons going out into the world looking for Candidates, or they're weyrbrats who grew up in the Weyr and are allowed to Stand. His blue might think anything about then, but without an affiliation to the Weyr and an official title, it really doesn't matter.
