Stroud is a town in the centre of the county of Gloucestershire, England, noted for its steep streets, independent spirit and cafe culture. It is located 10 miles (16 km) south of the city of Gloucester. It has a population of roughly 32,670. During the Industrial Revolution it was a cloth town with wool mills. It also has a significant artistic community that dates back to the early 20th century and was one of the birthplaces of the organic food movement. It hosts a fringe festival in September every year. There are six primary schools and three secondary schools in Stroud.
