Galway is a city located in County Galway, Ireland, on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay. It has a population of roughly 80,000 people. Galway is nicknamed the "City of the Tribes" (Irish: Cathair na dTreabh) because of the fourteen merchant families called the "tribes of Galway" who led the city in its Hiberno-Norman period. Residents of the city are referred to as Galwegians. Galway has a year-round mild, moist, temperate and changeable climate, with extreme heat or cold being very rare. Galway is known as Ireland's Cultural Heart (Croí Cultúrtha na hÉireann) and is renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and numerous festivals, celebrations and events. There are 27 primary schools and 11 secondary schools located within the city.
