Was this real?

She was actually through to the finals and while she'd been within a hair's breadth the last time, this was the first time she'd actually gotten this far. Was it at this point where she'd have to stop calling her wins a fluke and give herself some credit where it was due as she'd been encouraged to by one of the younger lions?

...It was food for thought, but not food to consume right now.

Instead, the lioness padded in to the arena to look out towards her opponent, what a surprise she was going to get when she found out he might very well be related to someone she'd already faced earlier in the tournament!

The bright colored lion was smiling as he made his way to the field where he would find his opponent. He had made it to the final round! He couldn't believe it! Honestly, he hadn't been expecting to make it this far, but it was a nice feeling to know that he had. Whatever happened with this round, whether his luck continued to hold out or not, he'd be happy with the outcome, he decided.

Now was the time to focus, though. Padding closer, Chapa's eyes widened as he saw who it was he'd be facing. His mane had grown in completely since the last time they'd seen each other, and he was curious how the lioness was doing. With a grin, the orange male trotted closer to her.

"Bahati! It's good to see you again!" He glanced around them for a moment, then turned back to her, "Though, perhaps under better circumstances next time." He chuckled, and then crouched to ready himself for their duel.

"This is better circumstances, no?" She smiled pleasantly. The last time they had met he wasn't so sure of himself and she had hoped that eventually he'd find his paws... and he certainly had. If she was right, this would be his first tournament and he had already gotten so much further than some of the other more experienced duelist.

...As for her, she was still improving and she knew it - they'd make for a good match.

"Your mane has grown in and there's a smile on your face," she clucked her tongue and cleared her throat. "But before I fall into the same trap that I did the last time I got to talking, perhaps we should ah...put on a show, hm?"

He gave a bashful smile at that comment, and then nodded emphatically. "Indeed! Let the best lion -- or lioness -- win."

Then he crouchesd low, and waited to see who would make the first move. He wanted to play this one carefully, unlike some of his previous rounds where he jumped in headfirst.

She'd seen that move before and rather than fall for it, she did her usual trick and slipped off to the side. She was quite well known for 'slinking' and eventually that was going to bite her in the butt, however for now, she'd continue to use it until a new strategy was required. Once she was out of the way the darker lioness was more than happy to return the favour, sweeping out from his left and back towards him with a pounce of her own.

Bahati had never been the type to try and seriously injure someone so her duels were often more like play fighting or truly harmless dueling so at the very least, Chapa wouldn't have too many bumps or bruises unless he was unlucky!

Chapa let out an oomph as he was pounced on. He wasn't the fastest lion around, but at least he had his weight to make up for it.

The lion started shaking himself, hoping to dislodge Bahati and give him some space to make a hit of his own, and while he succeeded in freeing himself, his responding swipe completely missed.

Letting out a curse, Chapa stumbled back a few steps to try and get his footing back.

She didn't really land gracefully as he managed to dislodge her, if anything she looked more like she was giving a hop, skip and a jump as she attempted to regain her balance. In a way it was likely to look impressive and somewhere along the way she'd be able to declare she had totally meant to that... But for now she didn't have to justify herself.

Instead, as he was attempting to regain his composure in some form or another, she found the time (and eventual grace) to spin round on her hindlegs and bound towards him again. Unsurprisingly she remained childish as ever in her tactics and rather than pounce, she'd elected to try and wrap her ears around his neck to gnaw upon his ear.

She was hardly a warrior of legend but it tended to do the job!

Before he could get his footing back under him, Bahati was back on him again. With a yelp of surprise, he cringed against the teeth gnawing at his ear and started bucking for all he was worth. He wasn't sure if it would get her to let go, but it was worth a shot. To be honest, he didn't want to actually hurt her, but this was a duel.

Finally, he managed to pull himself free with one last fierce wiggle, and this time, with a narrow-eyed look, he slide sideways to try and avoid another attack like that.

He needed to try and turn this around, or he would never win! Rushing forward, he aimed another paw swipe towards her flank.

Well she hadn't managed to hold on to that one for very long had she?

He'd squirmed out of her childish grasp and was once again after her, except on this occasion she was light on her paws and did have a little grace. As he made for her she danced away, though not without leaving herself completely unable to attack. No sooner had she gotten out of the way than it would have been clear to any onlooker that she'd messed up.

Bahati was at the wrong angle entirely and though she did try valiantly to sweep at him with her paws, she'd have had to twist very oddly in order to do anything of significant merit. If he wasn't able to dodge that weird little blow then no one was going to be able to help him... But Chapa despite taking a while to warm up might have something up his sleeve, there was still time for him to make his come back.

Another miss from him, but on the bright side, she had left a spot for him to dodge out of the way of her next move. Good, maybe he could get a hit in now that she was no longer coming at him.

Once he was out of the way and her paws had fallen back to the ground, he feinted to the left before pushing himself to the right, paw sweeping below her in the hopes of knocking out her footing.

His feint worked beautifully and no sooner had she moved to counter his false move, than his paws struck. She tripped rather unceremoniously and landed with a muffled thump on her side - all in all it might have sounded dramatic but she was largely unharmed and much to her good fortune he hadn't managed to wind her on this occasion.

Still, there was no way she would have time to get up between now and his next attack... she'd just have to do whatever she could from the ground and hope for the best. It was a straight forward decision overall and as a result her attack wasn't particularly pretty but it was probably going to be effective.

It wasn't every day a lioness did the 'worm' and lash out with well, herself to try and whack the lion hard enough to bring him down to the ground!

Bahati has commitment issues when it actually comes to smacking folks, she keeps forgetting she's in a tournament. >_>;

He had to admit -- he hadn't been expecting that at all. One of her limbs had made contact in his confusion, and with a grunt, the lion tumbled down to the ground with her. It was probably lucky that he hadn't landed on top of her, though he was pretty sure he had landed on her tail.

Whoops.

Whipping himself around (rather unsuccessfully; he looked a bit like a turtle), Chapa kicked out his hind legs in the hopes of pushing her away long enough for him to heave himself back to his feet.

She hadn't really recovered from her worm escapades by the time he had righted himself from his 'turtle' stance. This was in large part down to the fact he had unceremoniously stamped on her tail and she was having a yowl in despair. It was safe to say that as it stood neither of them were putting on a dignified performance but it was highly likely to be an entertaining one.

Nevertheless, without the means to recover, it wasn't long before those legs of his collided with her rump and sent her flying (almost literally) in the opposite direction. There was a muffled thump soon after, followed by an 'oof' and then the crowd was left with a seemingly dazed Bahati.

...Evidently her brain couldn't quite work out what had just happened.

This did, however, leave her wide open and Chapa now had the advantage!

His short, bulky stature wasn't helping him right now. With a grunt, Chapa heaved himself back up to his paws and twisted around to face her again.

It looked like he'd managed to daze her in his attempt to push her away, so, seeing his opportunity, Chapa charged forward and dove at her in an attempt to pin her while she was down. He might be able to win here and now if he could pull it off, assuming she didn't see him coming and dodge out of the way.

So, banking on that, the lion leapt forward.

She wasn't as dazed as Chapa probably would have preferred and as she saw his bulky form moving towards her, the more slight lioness did the only thing she knew would keep her out of trouble. With a small squeak of 'surprise' and some effort she managed to roll herself off to the side just in time to prevent him from landing on her.

This served to ensure she didn't get winded and she was also able to get on her paws. It wasn't the most graceful of movements to demonstrate but it was a functional move and did what she needed it to. Unfortunately the position she had rolled herself into hadn't left her with much of an opening for another attack...Not with the way Chapa had come at her anyway.

Thus rather than attack the lioness could do nothing more than bide her time as she moved towards a better position, she'd have to wait for another opportunity on this occasion...
