tab The bead provided her some level of knowledge, the first being that the technology was incredibly advanced, and that it was made of a material that held a composition she'd never experienced before despite its physical resemblance to steel. Given it's alien nature, all she could completely gleam from it was that the disk would produce a small image of a nondescript person going through the motions of casting the spell, though, oddly, it appeared to have a selection of different casting methods, only one of which would be absolutely familiar in the sense it used handseals. The others would take time to replicate, though the casting method she was familiar with would be the most likely methods of using them. Given it's relatively straight forward use of buttons, the only other thing she could determine from the bead was that it was somehow powered by a form of electricity, though the battery composition and structure was as alien as the rest of it. [5th Era Technology]
tab The Kokoro sighed dramatically as he looked at the girl with some level of concern before sighing and grumbling to himself in a strange dialect that resembled the squawking of chickens. Switching back to a language she understood he continued. "Now, those memories, they were more than would be fair for the bargain we agreed upon," he explained, his mole turning a rosy pink in embarrassment. "Normally I would provide you more spell knowledge, as is want from your kind, but you appear to be of the inquisitive sort, and so I offer you this. There is something going on here, in the former Land of Iron, that goes beyond what you mortals know. Something atrocious by most standards, but something that is necessary for the stability of this region's status quo. I cannot tell you what it is, for the same reasons I cannot explain more about the Yokai, but I can tell you that the leader here, Kaileer, is a good sort, and he is the most likely to make decisions from the heart instead of his logic. If he finds out this secret it might well not be a good thing for anyone involved. If you wish to stay around here and help, I ask that when the time comes you make the decision that is most necessary for you 'humans' to continue surviving here."

This was a very fruitful exchange. Assuming she could trust her senses and the information provided by her beads, Meissa had just learned several things in a very short amount of time:
  1. Hand seals still existed, even if she couldn't get them to work.
  2. The disk contained some incredibly advanced technology in such a small package.
  3. The worth of pre-collapse memories was very high. This told her that even if there were a ton of pre-collapse people still around, very few of them were dealing with the Kokoro. This gave her a better idea of how much bargaining power she actually had with the contents of her mind, which only made her that much warier about sharing her memories. Incentivizing the sharing of thoughts was a very ham-fisted way of breaking through her mental defenses if this were a genjutsu and falling for it was beneath her.
  4. Kaileer was well-regarded by the Kokoro.
  5. There was something in the city--likely surrounded by yokai--that would be (or perhaps already was) a threat to humanity's continued existence. At the same time, such an item should be kept away from Kaileer, lest something terrible befall the region. That would necessitate a certain level of discretion on her part if she went after it.
  6. The Kokoro at the very least didn't wish death to all humans, nor did they seem to want humans to completely dominate the area.

"Thank you for the information," she responded after a few moments. "You've given me much to think about. I don't fully understand your position in all this, but I appreciate your neutrality and fairness." She offered a handshake to the misshapen blue pixie. "It may be some time before our paths cross again. In the meantime, I wish you safe travels and good fortune in business."

tab Warmly he took her hand in his before cocking his head to the side and looking upwards as if something had dawned on him. A moment later he shook his head with a small smile and nodded to her. "There is much to be done. One of my sisters remains in this town, at least for a few weeks while she absorbs your texts. If you wish to barter with me you may speak with her, and she can, for a time, reach me." Releasing his grip he tweaked his mole as it attempted to duck, dodge, and weave its way around his grip, failing after a seventh go around and finding itself pinned in between his fingers. Twirling his mustache with the other the creature grinned. "Well, it's off to Kokorogakure for me! I hear there are Wakeners there." With that he about faced and walked away, humming to himself.

Meissa watched the Kokoro leave, feeling slightly curious about what its sibling would look like. She tried to imagine something just as grotesque in a similar way to this one, but just different enough to be distinguishable. She failed to come up with anything believable. Then again, the Kokoro wasn't believable already. She looked around, yawned, then decided to get a bit more reading in before heading to bed.

She settled on reading about spirits. The spirits of the world familiar to her were entities formed primarily of Chakra. The most prominent of these were the Tailed Beasts, which didn't make an appearance in the books she'd picked out.

It seemed that, in this world, spirits were primarily housed in the Land of the Dead and few upon emotional energy, or something to that effect. She found that arrangement strange, to say the least. Such an afterlife would have to be a hellish, war-ravaged world closer to hell than heaven. There was, she surmised, a cultural component to this that she wasn't familiar with; perhaps it was so easy to die here that people had to make it as unappealing as possible? That seemed likely, if things were really as dire as they seemed.

There were--perhaps unsurprisingly--a plethora of techniques associated with this peculiar worldview. With the same casual curiosity as someone looking through a magazine, Meissa started to flip through the scrolls she'd gathered, trying to see if she could find anything useful. That all changed when she started seeing the things floating about. She'd just adjusted her senses a bit and now she could see some colorful fragments floating about the place. An otter, a trail of sparkles, and an indistinct mass were all drifting through the area, casting their various hues on their surroundings. After that, she doubled back and reread a significant portion of the scrolls she'd taken, absorbing the knowledge until it and her exhaustion put an end to that.

Weary from quite possibly the longest day of her life, Meissa returned all the scrolls she'd been perusing and shambled out the door to go find her apartment.

                                                                              Chakra: 805/805

                                                                              C Rank - Physician

                                                                              Techniques Used:

                                                                              Passive:
Saintly Presence: This ability borrows from Masako's ability to heal simply by touching. Combining her ability to heal on touch and the passive aura that she naturally radiates at all times, Masako emits a healing mist within the radius of her aura. This healing mist is relatively weak at E rank, only numbing small bruises and taking the sting off cuts. At every rank the healing power of the aura slowly increases. By B Rank, the aura can close cuts and heal minor sprains. This is not an instant heal but takes time and exposure to the aura to heal. This ability also enhances the feeling of safety and peace created by the aura, reducing the effect that techniques that cause fear or terror by 1/2 rank.
Forest Princess: Everywhere Masako goes, she passively creates small amounts of plant life, even on surfaces that would normally not support it, such as metal or stone. This cannot be used to grow plant matter on objects created by an opponents own mana. This skill in essence allows Masako to have a source of natural materials at all time. This only creates small amounts of flora such as a patch of grass or a few flowers.
Forest Princess II: Masako's ability to speak with sprites and other friendly spirits is partially expanded to animals. While she cannot directly communicate with animals, she can convey thoughts and feelings to them. This makes animals and other similar creatures less likely to attack her. This can also be used to limited effect to communicate with An Teaghlach with varying degrees of success.
Inexplicable Luck: Once per battle or once every 4 posts outside of combat, Masako experiences a brief moment of inexplicable luck where whatever she attempts has a greater chance to succeed or increases the yield of an action. This action can also manifest in the form of actions, such as being able to dodge an attack that would normally land, etc. This also grants Masako a guaranteed chance to always gather at least 1 item per attempt even at a 0 skill level.
Human Potential: Masako gains an additional Discipline Point at C Rank.
Truth is Stranger Than Fiction: Often times in the pursuit of the truth, Inquisitors find themselves in the wackiest of places. It has often been said that truth can be stranger than fiction and this is no exception. At any time during any encounter, there is a chance for the encounter to become a "Wacky Encounter" which drastically changes the environment or NPCs in the area, often with hilarious results. This is randomly triggered by the DM as they see fit. Wacky Encounters generally include loot or items that would otherwise be unobtainable and always give at least one [1] item to the party, whether or not the item is useful is another matter. Wacky Encounters can be anything from discovering a random traveling circus in a dungeon to fighting a horde of cannibal dwarfs wearing dresses. The sky is the limit.
Divine Innocence: At all times, Masako radiates an aura of pure innocence and peace. This aura makes it all but impossible to want to attack her. Even if an individual were able to overcome the effects of the aura, all of their abilities used against Masako would be reduced in strength by one rank. The aura comes with a catch however. As with all medical professionals, Masako is sworn to do no harm and as such, she cannot attack while the aura is up unless an attack of C-Rank or higher is targeted against her, and only within 2 posts of the offending attack. After this two post timer, the aura is once again at full power and must be re-triggered.
Saint: The Saint path grants the ability to heal with a touch, something relatively rare in the Path of the Medic. No handsigns, no magic circles, no rituals, just a touch to activate. The Saint is granted one [1] spell per Experience Rank, beginning at E - rank, that can be used without paying a cost. This is specific to Healing spells that have a positive effect. If, instead, the effect is Negative in nature, these Spells can be used at only half cost [1/2] without any weakening in strength or viability. The Saint gains an automatic aura that generates feelings of peace and safety (for those who favor positive, beneficial effects) or unease and danger (in those who favor negative, destructive effects). This aura can be suppressed and is not a technique in and of itself, instead merely being an outward manifestation of their dispositions. In other words it cannot force reactions, but can definitely influence them.
Researcher: Knowledge is power, and the Researcher represents the Path of those who truly understand that. A specialist in finding information in the most difficult of places, the Researcher is a master of the written word, able to crack codes and written/drawn riddles with equal ease. Some items defy knowledge and require a Decryption score to learn their secrets, ranging in scale from zero [0] to five [5], with the former representing anything that doesn’t currently have a score. Through research that takes one [1] post for every two [2] Encryption ratings, the Researcher is able to crack these secrets. Alternatively, they may use their own knowledge to Encrypt things, making it near impossible to break. The Researcher is able to Encrypt/Decrypt up to Level One [1] at D – rank, and the level increases for every experience Rank they possess. Furthermore, depending on the Researcher’s original choice, Illusions, Arcanist Spells, or other abilities that hide the truth of the written or artistic form will be one [1] rank less in strength when viewed by a researcher, with any spell they know gaining one [1] rank in strength if used to obscure. In favor of this, the Inquisitor gains four [4] Arcanist and Illusion spells per Experience Rank, though it must deal with either obscuring or revealing things.

                                                                              Power| ☆

With long powerful steps the giant of a man Lupus slowly approached Masako, revealing in his hand a simple note from Lilya. Written with elegant handwriting was information pertaining to a clue about a mission given to them and in turn Lupus by her. With that done he would speak in his normal soft-low tone. "Lilya had me wait for you here. I'll lead you to the meeting site when you're done here. Lilya is working on her machines I believe right now." With that said he waited patiently for a few moments before leaving side by side with Masako to head off to the meeting point.

Usugi of the Wind and Waves → An ancient Gunbai of nightmarish origin, Usugi is believed to have been forged in the depths of a temple where the mad priest led hundreds to their deaths in order to provide raw materials for its creation. Whether or not this is true is difficult to say at best, given none were meant to have survived, but the pale white leather that covers the faces of the weapon definitely do look and feel like stretched human flesh. With the steel handle twisted and cast in such a way that it looks like human faces are screaming out from the shaft and the bladded edge of the Gunbai seeming to reflect light in odd, twisted ways it is clear that whatever its origins it was clearly designed for fear. Yet the truly horrific parts come when Usugi is awoken, caused by fifty [50] Chakra or Stamina points being spent as a sacrifice to the thing that guards within.
tab The Howling Shards ► Water and wind, fire, earth and lightning powers controlled by the wielder find their techniques altered thematically when used alongside this weapon. Wind howls with the screams of the dead and damned, with fire morphing into the expressions of those who died in fire. Water is blacker than sin and carries with it the reek of fetid blood while electricity snarles into demonic forms. The earth, tormented by its power, is black and rotted with decay, carrying with it the sweet stench of death. In effect techniques being used inspire a negative effect, a chilling, dark energy that borders the unholy power of corruption. C - ranked Shadow damage is constantly applied alongside the damage of the attacks, something that bypasses Defense and does half again [50% More] more Durability damage than before. This effect lasts for three [3] posts, with an upkeep of 30 Chakra or Stamina per post after.
tab The Crawling Chaos ► Use of this weapon comes at a cost as the mind begins to rot with each post sustaining the evil power of Usagi. For every three [3] posts being used apply one [1] point of Spiritual corruption upon the body. At every ten [10] points of Corruption the body gains an Echo Intrusion affliction. These Intrusions alter the physical body and emotional state of the figure in some way, while providing a bonus in its place. These may be submitted as "custom techniques", though in all cases there is a negative as equal in strength as the positive, and will include physical alterations.
