Kira looked over to the lad as he tried to stop him dressing the armor onto him. Kira did stop out of respect and a small blush over came his pale body. As Kira stopped himself The lad told him about how to scale mail might slow him down slightly and Kira thought hard on the matter. A leather helm that cover all but his face seemed less opportune but when your strapped for Ryo you get what you get. Looking to the lad as he said the price he looked into his satchel of ryo. it was about half that and he did plan on buying it full when he came back. he sighed and said, "If i gave you half of the price now and the rest on my return would that be acceptable?" He hoped the on credit deal would be allowed considering he has been there as a daily regular for the most part. He hadn't reached for the rest of the armor at this point unless the lad infront of him allowed him to do so.

Meissa trotted through the area, followed by a few horses, an unconscious Servus, and the massive sky serpent spirit known as Nok. She tried her best to remain calm and collected so as not to alarm anyone, but quickly realized it was probably a bad idea to leave Servus uncovered. She doffed her cloak and covered the lad in it, embedding one of her mana jewels into it as she did so.

Nok, meanwhile, was fascinated by the wealth of items contained in the shops. If it weren't still so wary of Servus, it may have indulged in a closer look. Meissa got the sense that she ought to do something about its size sooner rather than later, as having such an enormous creature looming overhead was probably bad for local morale.

With the cold wind sending a shiver through her freshly uncloaked body, she headed onward to the hospital.

Current Goal: Passing through while acting as though nothing is wrong.

--- Entering post-1 month timeskip ---

Meissa strolled through the marketplace, her cloak shut tight against the cold wind that ripped through the crisp mountain air. She'd been here for a little over a month now and was starting to get used to the area's culture, though there were plenty of things she'd yet to grow accustomed to. The restriction of foot traffic in certain areas was one. The Sand hadn't done much to prevent foot traffic along the main shipping corridors, and she was definitely still used to that. It could certainly be argued that Ikeinasu's setup--with designated routes for carts and other vehicles--was safer and had various other benefits, but that wasn't really helping her get used to it. The other was the variety of different peoples that were intelligent without being strictly human, which was significantly rarer in the world she knew. But for a few exceptions, most people would never have seen an intelligent non-human creature. She was actually somewhat enjoying that change; it was interesting to observe the ways the different peoples interacted with the city.

Her goals today were simple: buy some wire, eat, train, and then check in on Servus. After the chaos of her last mission, she'd been spending most of her time acclimating to the city and getting her bearings in this new part of the world. She'd done a few jobs, of course, but nothing nearly as concerning as that last one. The great wind spirit, Nok, was still around, stirring up somewhere in the clouds. They'd reached an agreement that it'd come when she called so long as she made an attempt at getting it a better vessel, but all her attempts at whittling had ended in the spirit rejecting the new design, so it remained bound to an unimpressive origami snake.

She stopped in a shop that looked promising, and sure enough, they had exactly the sort of steel wire she was looking for. And at a bargain, too: 30 meters for 10 Ryou. She bought a spool and clipped it to the side of her backpack. After thinking for a moment, she had them clip two meters off of it for convenience. That was about how long she was used to when using wire for Pattern Links in her previous life, so it was as good a starting point as any for her current one. She tied that shorter length of wire loosely around one wrist, thanked the shopkeeper, and stepped back out into the cold, now on the prowl for food.

Current Goal: Shopping. Note: Price for purchased wire was obtained from Tao over Discord.

For the past few weeks and months, Lorelei had been busy bothering and convincing the locals to teach her the language. Some tried to shrug her off because they were simply too busy but she volunteered her time to help them with whatever errands as long they were around to teach her. And it worked. Her persistence paid off, even though they had found her kind but annoying. Now, she had a new goal. Feed was always low here, which made sense cause of the cold winters and the dangers that lurked in the wilds, but she wanted meat. Once she could get the game, she could donate the rest of the meats to the village.

Problem was, Lorelei wasn't sure if it was something she could do by herself. She needed a hunting friend to help her. She figured the market would be the best place to start since it would have good items here, surely she could find someone that could be her hunting partner! In that perfect moment, she saw a female that seemed to radiance wisdom and strength, so with that, she marched right up to her, "Greetings!" With a warm smile and voice, "I seek a friend to accompany me to haunting of animals! Would you be that friend?"

Meissa was pondering a meal of grains and some sort of root vegetable when someone greeted her. They were a bit loud, a bit overly friendly, and their speech was a little bit stilted, but she'd dealt with stranger. She turned to properly face the person and gave a shallow bow.

The proposal wasn't a terrible one. Meissa was hungry, meat sounded good, and she could always donate the rest of her portion of the spoils to the city or have them smoked for later consumption. She still hesitated, however; this person stood like someone with a fair deal of combat training. In a physical fight, Meissa would almost definitely lose. Then, as she began to process the bigger picture, she remembered seeing this person about town, always acting just as friendly and gradually integrating into society. If she wasn't mistaken, they also lived near each other, though she hadn't gone out of her way to meet her neighbors. The verdict was simple: if this person were a potential threat, they probably would have acted before now, and Meissa didn't have anything she urgently needed to take care of.

"Call me Meissa," she answered calmly. She raised her head and positioned her head as though she were looking Lorelei in the eyes, though her own eyes were obscured by a blindfold. "What sort of animals did you have in mind? Can't say I'm too familiar with the creatures of this area."

A tiny small squeak was heard in her throat, rather surprised at seeing the woman before her wearing a blindfold. She felt horrible. Terrible. How dare she offered someone who possibly can't even see, to go hunting with her. The female introduces herself and Lorelei was brought back into reality as she sheepishly scratched her cheek, wondering how she was going to apologize to this woman for being so absent-minded. Or not paying attention. Meissa was 'looking', was this even possible? At her eyes, which, if she remembered right, was a way of maintaining eye contact to develop a bond. "Uh..." Lorelei nervously started, "Well, I do apologize, I did not know you cannot see, or can you see through that?" She questioned, waving her hand in front of Meissa's face as a way to test how much she can and can't see, knowing that she had seen helmets of her past and they were so small that soldiers can see through them but not very weel, so Lorelei figured it would be something like that.

Meissa was almost taken aback by how shockingly normal Lorelei's reaction was to seeing her blindfold. Wouldn't the typical reaction be to assume the other person was blind? If so, what did it say about the people who didn't acknowledge that? And what did it say about Meissa that she was surprised by someone acknowledging it?

"Ah, I can sense things well enough to go without sight in most cases. If it would put you at ease, I can remove it for now," she clarified, taking half a step back to get away from Lorelei's hand. "But I believe you said something about hunting? Physical combat isn't currently my strong suit, but I'm used to handling magic. If I had to guess, you're trained more for physical combat; is that the case?"

Current Goal: Dispelling some harmful myths about her personage.

Lorelei couldn't help the facial expression that was written on her face right now which was bewilderment. So she can sense things? Go without sight? This was odd. The lady offered to remove it and she felt a twinge of discomfort. What if she didn't have any eyeballs? Or her eyes point in opposite directions? "A-ah, n-no that's okay!" Lorelei said rather quickly as she could. Meissa helped Lorelei slightly calm down a bit by bringing up hunting again. A wide and toothy grin could be seen as she nodded, "Right! Combat is my stre- e-eh? M-magic?" Lorelei stuttered a bit. She always had been a bit uncomfortable around magic even though this world was full of it. Cleared her throat, she nodded to respond Meissa's question before remembering that she couldn't see? Can she even sense that she nodded? "Yes, I am trained for combat. Shall we go?" Lorelei figured that maybe starting the hunt can help her clear her mind and not focus on her... possibly new comrade's lack of sight.

Meissa was starting to wonder if she had an exceptionally overwhelming presence. Lorelei being so flustered was honestly kind of endearing, but Meissa made a mental note that talk of combat was at least somewhat calming for her new comrade. That was a good sign, too; it meant Lorelei probably wouldn't panic in the moment.

That brought Meissa back to another thought: Nok. While the giant spirit was currently loitering in the clouds, she wasn't confident she'd be able to use it effectively in battle, which meant she couldn't justify its upkeep. It was unfortunate, but she'd have to replace it for the time being.

"Might as well," she responded calmly. "I'll need a little bit to prepare, so I'll head to the southern gate now. You can meet me there in a little bit if you have something you'd like to do first."

That being said, she jogged off through the crowd, the cold air nipping at her face.

Current Goal: Going on a quick jog.

Meissa felt a tug, like a chain holding her in place. As she watched, shadows bent toward the shikigami, pouring into it like a raging torrent. Along with the movement came a sound like a building shifting in the cold of night. She felt the mass of the creature that she'd called upon, and while it was smaller than Nok, it was still much more powerful than she'd bargained for. Before she could decide to rescind her invitation, however, the deed was done. The shikigami fell to the ground, pulsating with darkness, then slowly expanded until it was about the length of her arm.

A crude facsimile of a snake sat before her, its body seemingly both solid and comprised of little more than smoke. It raised its head slowly. Their eyes met--hers blindfolded, its a lunar gray.

"What fortune," it uttered, its maw opening to reveal a roiling mass of dark gray clouds. It coiled up, then launched itself at her. Startled, she caught it and held it at arm's length, which it seemed perfectly fine with. It coiled around her. "You need help? What-- sorry, but <******** yes! Sorry, first time. Just. Uh. s**t. Sorry."

"...take your time?" she offered, taken aback by the frankness and foul mouth this spirit displayed. She'd gotten used to Nok's calmer demeanor.

"Oh, hell to the ******** yes. This is fantastic. So great. Call me Jata. Please? I would love it so much!"

"Calm down, Jata," Meissa chastised it. "My name is Meissa. I hope we have a pleasant working relationship."

"Right. Yes. Calming down. Oh, but I just know we'll get along famously! Is there anything I can do for you?"

"Calm down. I'm about to go hunting and I need your help, but first, let me put one of these inside you." Her tone was firm, as she realized this would take all day otherwise. She commanded one of her mana beads to approach the spirit, which watched closely as the orb approached and then sank into it. Once the deed was done, it wriggled out of her grasp and draped itself across her shoulders. She could feel its presence in her mind, its senses pushing hers outward.

This would work. Hopefully.

Current Goal: Coming to terms with whatever she's summoned. (Roll is for element, including null and ruler elements due to her Void Spirit PA. Result: Shadow.)

Meissa strolled through the streets in the twilight of dusk. It wasn't too hard to guess where Lorelei had gone--the quantity of fresh meat they'd obtained had people talking--so she was quickly able to make her way to a specific restaurant.

"Hoy!" a voice called to her as she entered the establishment. It belonged to a stocky man who was cooking something at a stove at the back of the establishment.

"Good evening! My name's Meissa. Lorelei and I hunted some deer earlier." She bowed slightly to the man and shut the store's door. The restaurant was steamy compared to the dry cold she'd just come out of, bringing a very slight flush to her cheeks.

"Ah! Stew's gonna be a few more minutes. Take a seat and I'll bring you a bowl when it's done. Can't thank you enough for this."

The young woman bowed again and picked a table near the kitchen. In the chair next to hers she placed her cloak, backpack, and wood bundle. The warmth of the shop was starting to get to her. A few minutes later, the man brought over a bowl of stew with some meat cuts. Thankfully, he also brought a glass of water, which she promptly drank.

"Enjoy," the man said. "Saved a couple of the best cuts for you two. Ah, and payment. Here, here." He fished around his apron and pulled out a small wad of cash. "Payment for services rendered. Food's on the house. Eat up, y'hear!"

Before Meissa could say anything, he was back in the kitchen. She pocketed the cash and tucked into the stew. It was tasty, the venison especially. The flavors didn't quite work together, yet just having meat was a treat. She finished quickly. After relaxing for a few minutes, she placed her dishes on the counter that connected to the kitchen, gathered her things, and left with another bow.

Current Goal: Picking up payment for a job.

Meissa walked briskly along the pathways that led between the districts. While she wasn't passing through at street level, she still heard the clamor of the market district loud and clear. From the hammering of anvils to the voices haggling and hawking wares, all were sounds familiar to her. It was a bit different from back in the Sand--quieter for one, as much of the bargaining was done indoors--but no less lively.

As she continued on her way, she pulled aside her blindfold for a moment and saw a line formed outside the restaurant she and Lorelei had delivered venison to the day prior. Feeling satisfied at a job well done, she doubled her pace.

Current Goal: Heading to the gates.
