Okay, so he PROBABLY shouldn't be wandering through the Pridelands, or have volunteered to come wandering when he'd been hitting it off so well with the Goddess...but...Well. Someone had offered him the chance to go check on the lands he'd originally come to live in. He'd been sent off to patrol the border, and in his boredom, Teodan found himself tracing the lines in idle amusement and contemplation. How strange was the land now. No longer was there the scent of other lions, but the overwhelming scent of fire and ash. As he wandered, he noted that there was a tiny branch remaining from the nightmare, leaning down to gently pick it up in his teeth. Well, he'd have to take it home...The others would want to see this.

Consonum's large red form followed the rest of the group, wary and ready to stop another creature if she had a vision. She knew they could be going into danger, and she'd come along to lend her strength as the child of a god, both physically and with her abilities as a seer. She was careful to avoid patches that seemed too hot when she drew close or that still glowed beneath the strange black stone. One stone she came up to, however, seemed odd. It was shaped strangely and was smooth. It wasn't the rough black stone beneath her paws. Curious, she managed to chip some of it off, putting it into a little pouch she'd brought with her.

Eua frowned at the state of their home. It had been the only home she knew, the only one she remembered. She knew she and Lel had been in the rogue lands when she was very young, but...she couldn't remember that. Only the Aegnor'hini. Only the demons and the Jötunn and those who bore no demon or Dvergr-blood. It hurt in the depths of her soul to see the chaos the Hellgate had wrought, and even Eisheth deep in her soul cried. Especially as they came across a charred, blackened little piece of a tree or bush. What the branch had belonged to, one could no longer tell. But it made Eua hang her head a moment in solemn mourning for what had been lost.

One of of Calithil's nephews had joined the group, and had not been amused the entire time. Something about the whole thing just seemed...off. Strange. Estirdae was no seer, but even he knew that risking the wrath of a still-angry Hellgate could prove deadly to all of them. He picked his way across the strange, dark rock carefully, listening for any sign of danger, feeling for any shaking of the earth beneath them. He made sure to pick some of the rock free, to show those back with the rest of the pride later.

Zulvan ended the line of his siblings, bringing up the rear with a confidence that well fit his massive shoulders and the full shape of his mane. He was no longer the awkward cub that had first come into the Aegnor'hini between his mother's paws. He had grown into the land as surely as he had his own fur, come to care for it and the demons that called it home. As such, to see the Hellsgate turn against them was absolutely appalling. Though he put on a brave face, as was his responsibility, their time out in the roguelands had been untenable to the young male. When word reached his ear about scouting out what was left of home, well. What else was he to say?

Besides, his sisters seemed of the same mind. Zul's eye caught on something on the ground, stirring in vain from a pile of the smooth black stone that had overtaken their home. Some kind of plant, so it seemed to him; perhaps a part of their jungle, once upon a time. Whatever it was, it took but a moment to pry up its charred remains and sweep them into the small pouch resting over his flank. If destruction like this was what the mountain was really capable of, he would be remiss if he didn't come along to keep an eye on them.

The big red male wasn't the only one keeping an eye on a sibling. Shiba kept at Nanoh's heels, scouting the black rocks with an equal, if not greater trepidation. Always had the Hellsgate made him uneasy. Now it was all too simple to see why! "Would'ja look at it all! It's everywhere." He frowned, though amazement was plain in his tone.

Would that he might have spent more time looking at the ground at his feet instead of that in the distance, Shiba might have avoided stepping on a bit of the warm stone that was more disturbed than the rest. He yelped - a sound that was not quite the growl he wanted it to be, but mercifully avoided anything closer to a yip - and immediately inspected the offending paw for damage. There was nothing but scattered shards of black stone, and just a bit of his blood. Bitey little things, those! Still, the craftsman gathered the shards, and found himself fascinated with their implications. Locally-sourced stone that bit back? That could be downright useful.
