[Definition]
tab Below you will find three profile layouts, each designed with a different idea in mind. The first represents the bare minimum an application must have to be accepted, with all information written there something that is required from the get-go.The second represents a voice speaking to you, trying to jog your memory. Their questions serve as the different section headers, while the questions below them are representative of the character asking themselves these questions as if to jog their memory. The third one is made out to be more cut-and-dry, with this same voice asking the character the question, and the character responds how they choose. In the latter two cases, you may fill out the sheet as either simple answers, the same way others so often do in their guilds or role plays, or you may choose to answer it in character, utilizing first person to answer as your own characters. This can be of great assistance in getting to know the character even as you create them. While we respect those who decide to answer with simple listing of facts, we heavily suggest answering as your character, if only to help you get into the feel of this guild, which is very role play heavy. For any questions or details please contact a member of the Approval Committee.
tab Please see the following post, which dictates a guide for character creation. The guide is written with the second [2nd] format in mind, which to date has been the most popular format used. You may also wish to look here, which carries many links, definitions of systems and terminology, and other tidbits of information to further assist you in understanding the guild. We thank you for joining us, and hope you enjoy your stay.

Character Application and Approval

tab Below you will find a guide to filling out a profile, and below that is where you go to apply for your character of your own creation, utilizing the rules and regulations found throughout the guild. For Profile information and layouts please see here. Until your character is approved we require submission of the profile to utilize one of the two provided layouts, after which you may post your character profile in any way you choose fit in a different location, as long as all information provided here is there as well.

Character Profile Guide

_________General Resource Links

_________Introduction
tab Hello, and welcome to Shattered Past! Thank you for taking the time and effort to take your first step on the road to a tough, but rewarding, role play experience where your actions and reactions will directly shape the fate of this world in character, and this guild out of it. As we have striven to bring a more unique and in depth role play experience to our members, you may find a large number of our systems either confusing or seemingly bereft of information, or at the very least not readily useful. As such, this guide is being written for you to assist in the creation of your first RPC, or Role Playing Character, or as a refresher course when making another. Please keep in mind that no one method is always correct and perfect the first time, nor really ever, but if you have ideas or suggestions to help make this guide a more legible, and understandable document do not hesitate to contact Lanfaer or Royal Taorito!

_________Picking the Profile Layout
tab Below we have an official, supported Profile Layout. As long as all of the data that is on it is addressed I do not care how if you decide to add more. If you add more, or wish to rearrange it, please wait to do so until after it has been approved. It keeps the approval process simple.

_________Tell Me Some Basics

Who are you?
tab What is a name? A name is the title given to your identity, and hints at the heritage from whence you came. While the world of the Naruto source material is based in a Japanese heritage, we welcome characters from all over, and as such we hold no restrictions on the names you decide to choose as long as they follow Gaia ToS.
How Old Are You?
tab No one may be over the age of 21. There were multiple ways to reduce this age if bringing in an old character, though you must be proactive in asking a moderator for information on it. The Approval Committee is who you'd want to contact. That being said, we also do not have an age minimum, and while playing a fetus might be fun it isn't recommended.
What Sex Are You?
tab Is it SJW-ism? No, the question refers to the gender born under. We do not have issue with characters being made that utilize unconventional sexes, such as being intersex. If you wish to list your sexuality you would do so here, or if Gender is different than sex then please, put that next to the biological sex. This is important for some Abilities to reference.
What Do You Look Like?
tab Simply put, the grand majority of members will be using pictures to describe their characters, which, depending on the nature of said picture, may or may not be completely accurate. As such, describe here what you look like. More, describe what you look like if you're the type to wear different outfits, and have a few that are very specific and regular. Make sure to write if you have secret tattoos or hidden encryptions on your back!
What is Your Race?
tab As previously stated we welcome all types. An example is that, if Human is picked, we already have one person of Irish descent, and another of Aztec descent. We won't knock you either for or for not using this, but keep in mind that it can add flavor and flair to any character to simply change their skin tone, their physical features, their accents, or even add their practices of faith or small customs to their actions!

_________Now, Some Details

Personality?
tab It is important to note that while many consider only a few words enough, the Personality serves as a point of interest for the Approval Committee, and should be for you. While, yes, we look at your profile to make sure it's usable, the Profile is primarily here for you to reference and understand your own character before you beginning using them, and serve as a guide while you do. The more you explore this the greater your understanding of your own character, and the more we, as moderators, can understand the goals and desires of your character.
What Do You Fear
tab Everyone has them. These need not be phobias, but these are fears that help guide the personality. They must actually influence your character in some way. Certain ones that are for granted, such as “Death” or “Loss of Companions” are givens. Unless these somehow drive a specified character flaw/strength in Personality, they do not count. You must have at least three. Please, explore these. Fear is a primary emotion, it sets the groundwork for much of the personality your character has! Explore what makes them tick. Fear of losing your friends? Maybe this makes the character overprotective, willing to do anything to ensure their friends come first, as an example.
What Era(s) Are You From
tab In Shattered Past you will find that much has changed in the world. This is due to the enormous amount of time that has passed since a single Human has graced the world, as all were taken by the Plague. To reference the far distant past we refer to Eras to highlight a particular strength of time. This can dictate what knowledge your character may have had, what sort of work fields or experiences with the Plague the character had. An example is that you may have been born during the edge of one age, and lived through the beginning of another, giving you possible first hand accounts of what happened during it. Keep in mind that no character may come from the 5th Era. See the link in the name above for more information.
What Have You Experienced
tab Alright, folks, break out your thinking caps and your hand warmers, we're going for a bumpy ride! Histories can, depending on the person, be the most interesting, fun, and hated part of writing a profile. Most cut it short, saying only a few words. Well, here in Shattered Past we require two [2] Paragraphs at least, and there isn't any getting around that. Why? Well, you see, it needs to be detailed as who you were, and what you did previously, is incredibly important to who your character is now. It helps support the personality, the strengths and flaws, and will be referenced in different events within the guild. The more you add, the more that can be used for a more immersive experience within this guild. Want to be more involved in this guild directly, personally? Write a history, and we'll work it into the story line, big or small.

_________What Can You Do

Classes
tab First and foremost: You begin at E, or D - rank. If you begin at E - rank get all of the benefits described, including that starting one hundred [100] points of Mana and Stamina. If you start at D - rank, you would only start with fifty [50], and you begin with half [1/2] the Ryo as normal to pick your starting inventory. But you get a class! This guild is about starting with nothing and earning your way up the totem poll, so if you want the full experience start at E - rank. As Classes begin at D - rank, this means that E - ranked characters, who may have had classes before, no longer begin with one now, and you will have to wait until you reach D - rank again to pick your first class [500 Experience points away!]. If you want to write something here, fine, just keep in mind it won't have any effect statistic wise until you hit D - rank.
How Do You View It
tab Same as classes, bubs! Unfortunately no one can use a Discipline, unless earned in some fashion through guild events, to achieve a Discipline at E - rank. These will be specifically marked as usable at E - rank to ensure no miscommunication.
What Makes You Unique
tab And here's the really, really, really hard part of making a character. Personal Attributes help you define your character, granting them supplemental changes ranging from situational modifiers (+1 Power after defecating!) to permanent increases (+10 Spell Slots!). These can be incredibly difficult to figure out at most times, but thankfully, we have a handy-dandy guide for personal attributes, linked in the Terms and Systems link at the beginning of this post. If this still doesn't help, consider two things. What do you want them to do? Write it out, and we'll help you achieve it if its possible with your Personal Attribute. Or, if you have an idea of what you want, go pester harass ask Lanfaer for aid. He enjoys making them, the weirdo.
What Are Your Limitations
tab Now, it's important to note a few things. Every character starts with one hundred [100] Mana and Stamina pools. This determines how many techniques, talents, and powers you may use before you run out and have to retreat. This can be changed by your Stats, which is further explained, along with Archetypes, at the hyperlinked page. To explain a few things further in this section, however, see below:
→ Materialization is what happens when your emotions run high, when special locations are found, or when you use an enormous amount of mana or stamina. It is also the color your Mana takes when visible. Your materialization takes on a shape or effect that has no battle purposes, such as armor, an afterimage, or even the twisting, screaming faces of the damned as they grasp for air! If you want this to do anything besides look like something you'll need to use a Personal Attribute to make it so.
→ Mana Elements: There are five base ones to choose from. Fire, Water, Wind, Lightning, Earth. Evos may grant you combination ones, but these are the generic ones.

What Skills Do You Possess
tab What are you skilled at doing? How proficient are you at dissecting a mole for science! Do you know the right end of a hoe to use when hoeing the earth?! Skills define the character, and rules, and regulations, can be found here.
What Are You Proficient With
tab Formless combat, unnamed attacks, beating-someone-with-a-chair, however you call it the Proficiency system lets you know what you can do without needing to pull out the big guns (ala Named Techniques). This is a measure of what weapons you are proficient in, and will be referencing in styles and Talents as requirements. Click here for more information.
What Are Your Limitations
tab This is hugely important, and is dictated by many factors ranging from your choice of Archetypes, Classes, Disciplines and Personal Attributes. To put it simply, this is the number of slots you have from different types of techniques. Once you're full you'll need to somehow increase your slots before learning more.

_________What Do You Possess

How Much Experience Do I Possess
tab Truth be told, zilch. On a more official note no one begins play with experience as a Role Play Character. Every character must gain experience to work their way up the Experience Ranks, from E, to D, to C, to B, to A, and then to S - rank.
How Much Ryo Do I Own
tab Shattered Past is a member driven world, which includes the Economy. Right now, guild NPC races that can be interacted with primarily use barter or theft as a means of trade, meaning that while Ryo for the moment may not be used it may at a later time if members set that up as a form of currency. To start with, however, no one possess any, as any Ryo the character has left over after purchasing their starting gear is erased.
What Do I Carry
tab The Rule of this guild is that if you do not have it listed in this section your character will not have it at all. This needs to be kept up to constant date. This includes description of the clothing. Any hidden pockets, straps, or weapons, etc. This is an important section. When Starting there will be Starting Packages, listed under the Archetypes, that informs you what you may begin play with. This is to help determine what your starting stats and Ryo is. With this Ryo, you purchase items that fill up the slots here. All Ryo left over is permanently removed. Please keep in mind the reality of what you are carrying, including Money, and how much space and volume your character can realistically carry.
What Techniques Do You Possess
tab Every Character begins play with one [1] E - C Ranked technique learned. This can be from anything except for Bijuu and Clan // Bloodline techniques. If a Custom Technique or Item is desired it must be between E - D ranks, and must be submitted to the appropriate Approval thread.

_________Default Casting Method

• Casting magic of any type requires some methodology to wield. While classes allow the character to select a limited number of methods that are linked to spells from that class, every character begins play with one [1] Default they can fall back on. These base level casting methods are described below, and cannot be changed once selected, though attaining a class will stack with this selection.
Vocal and Somantic → Your mind if filled with arcane words and hand gestures that make your mind spin with power. Your mana wells within you, and with these words and gestures you shape the mana into a new form: magic. While you may use words or gestures singly on any spell up to C - rank, anyone higher will require both to cast, though with some training [after thirty [30] successful castings of a single spell] the spell may be cast with one [1] without the other by reducing the Strength or Speed rank by one [1].
Hand Seals → An ancient, outdated metholody of casting, Hand Seals are the hallmark of a former Shinobi, one of those that helped decimate the world. Utilizing combinations of hand seals based upon the Zodiac of Monkey, Dragon, Rat, Bird, Snake, Ox, Dog, Horse, Tiger, Boar, Ram, and Hare, with the number of seals required going up with more powerful spells, the mana is shaped by these specific seals as it exits the body for a variety of effects. Hand Seals traditionally require the use of both hands, though with some training [after thirty [30] successful castings of a single spell] the spell may be cast with one [1] hand by reducing the Strength or Speed rank by one [1].
Magic Circles → While most definitely a flashy method of casting, drawing magic circles has its benefits. When harnessing the mana within the practitioner uses a part of their anatomy to trace lines of their own mana into the air or onto a surface a pattern that gives shape and rule to the mana flow in order for it to be cast. Completion of the circle causes it to be cast immediately. The length of time it takes to draw is no more than that of any other casting method, but the drawing can be interrupted just as one might break a line of salt or smear a line of ink. If, however, the magic circle is carved in some manner, or permanently placed in some manner, upon a structure it may be later activated by simply interacting with and paying the cost of the spell, though this will always count as an Action. When done so, the circle lights with the color of one's mana, often displaying some characteristics of their Mana Manifestation. In all cases these circles exist as long as the duration of the spell, meaning if a spell lasts four [4] posts so, too, does the circle, and if it is disturbed by sufficient movement or action the spell will immediately fail.
Talismans → Not as well used as the previous entries, Talismans represent a unique artifact level approach to casting spells. If this is selected at character creation the character begins with a small deck of talisman cards, ranging from as smell as a simple deck of playing cards to tablets the size of tomes, with a total of twenty [20] cards to begin with. Each time a spell is learned the practitioner may press a digit to their Talisman and inject their Mana, and the memory of the spells effects, rules, and regulations into the depths of this artifact, imbuing it with the power of their knowledge and allowing them to be a focus for one's spell casting. To use the Talisman, the practitioner must either reveal the card for the realms to see in some fashion, revealing its face for it to take effect, or throw it and activate it at a different location with a limited range of fifteen [15] meters, where it will trigger. Once cast the Talisman disintegrates, though at the beginning of the practitioners next post the card reconstitutes into the deck, available for use. Whenever touching the deck the desired Talisman always appears to be at the top. Please note, the Talisman may only have one spell [1] at a time on it, but may be imbued with any Personal Attributes, Disciplines, or Augmentative knowledge/spells that would normally affect it already in place. Additionally, the Talismans may have the cost of the Mana placed within the Talismans, and as such when they are "used" for the first time they will be cast without the need for more mana. Unfortunately, once they are reconstituted their mana is spent, requiring preparation again. Preparation/Recoding of a Talisman take one [1] Action per Talisman. The number of Talismans available increase by five [5] at D - rank, B - rank, and S - rank for a total of twenty five [25] Talismans at S - rank.
