 Well, this was it. This was the last chance to find a decent place to call her 'home', and San'layn had found out...almost the hard way that one does not simply walk into the large canyon and settle down.
Nah, it had to be through a show of strength. Something that she wasn't sure she could do...But already, she felt welcomed, at least. The lion who was supposedly a general had given her a pep talk, and the...Farseer? Well, she was a lovely lioness who didn't make her feel bad at all.
Shaking her head to clear her eyes of her bangs and sweeping her braid behind an ear, San'layn did her best to 'eye up' the competition, as it was.
A lion. Yes. He was a lion indeed.

"I'm--OHJEEZE!" San'layn yelped and...froze instead of moving away, and it felt like a boulder had just slammed into her. A spiky, pointy, Not-too-nice boulder that knocked the wind out of her and made her wince in pain. Never had she needed to fight in her life thus far, and it showed. Oh, it showed so much right now, as her only attempt at a retaliation was a somewhat weak swipe with her own claws before...Oh, yeah, she'd never been bruised before, either.
But that didn't stop her from at least trying. After all, this was what the pride was about, right? Showing your strength? And maybe it wouldn't make her look THAT bad to at least grit her teeth through the pain?
...Or maybe it was better to not push it when overpowered. Knowing when to retreat was strength too, right? Yup. Definitely. And with that decision, San'layn, though still snarling, backed up and bowed her head.

The swat to his shoulder was more of an afterthought it seemed, and although Nko wanted to overpower the female and pin her to the ground, something about this fight seemed... off. And when she backed up without attempting to attack, her head bowed despite her snarl, the stopped in his tracks, eyes narrowed. Was this some sort of trick? His tail flicked back and forth in agitation as he tried to figure out her game, but eventually he realized she was giving in.
"That's it?" he asked, a little growl to his voice as usual. His tone was more perplexed than insulting or angry and it was clear he was confused with her sudden surrender. He had been taught as a cub that the only acceptable way to lose was to die, and while that might be a bit extreme in a sparring contest, Nko wasn't the type to do something half way.
Then again, her startled yelp after his charge was a pretty major indicator that this lioness hadn't been raised as he had, knowing from the moment he could understand his mother that he'd be on his own once his mane started to grow in and he'd have to protect himself.
"With a bloody maw like yours I was anticipating a thrashing."

Nkosenye rolled his shoulders as he stared across the dueling sands to his partner. A female, but he knew better than to take her for granted just because of that. He had come from a pride that consisted of nearly all females and his mother had taught him from day one that the world revolved around the opposite sex. She had also taught him that males were important in their own right, and that if he trained properly he could become a great lion. His dreams had shifted from returning to the Bonelands to fight for a place as one of the few males there when he had found this place, more content to battle his way up the ranks.
